A bit OT but today while in the car, I saw a motorbike going down the road that was built for a handicapped person - it had extended "training wheels" for stability and a wheel chair rack on the back.

Damn.. so all I have to do is let one go and I'll have oil companies buying up all the land nearby?

Thank you all for the wonderful imagery!! This thread has been a "chuckle point" in my day since i became a member on here. Much more interesting stuff than the random homeless guy sleeping on the benches along the MUP i ride everyday.

What I hate finding along the route is a dog off its leash, even if the owners are nearby. Who knows if the dog chases bikes or decides to make an unsignalled turn into my path?

But think about this, the dog is providing you an opportunity to see how fast you can go with your balls against the wall sort of speak all out effort. Then you can brag to others how fast you went that day! It's great fun.

Once I had a dog chase me through about 15 blocks and 6 or 7 traffic lights, and luck be shining on me I got the red at each intersection. So I would race up to the light, slam the brakes, look both ways, then sprint off to the next, all the while this dog would catch up at the lights and he was too stupid to stop for the lights. At last intersection he ran through it I heard a car slam the brakes and a thud, I turned around just in time to see this dog fly through the air and hit a brick retaining wall where he laid forever. Most dogs won't chase you more then their yard and maybe the neighbors, but some...

I'd rather race against another cyclist who's smart enough to look before s/he crosses at a red light than a dumb dog. Furthermore, another cyclist would be less likely to bite me in the leg if they caught up to me.

A tent set up and occupied on the MUP, under a bridge at 5am, I suppose due to heavy rains during the night. Fortunately I saw that there was something big and dark in the way in time to slow down and go around it.

Not strange, but I realize some of the post of things people have found are not strange, so I guess it's safe to post my find without disappointing readers. I think it was this Halloween on my way home from work. I found a Sony camera pouch for a Cybershot. No camera inside but I had been thinking about buying such a camera pouch for my Sony digi cam. Fortunately it had not been run over when I found it. Pouch was in good shape and a perfect fit for my camera!

Recently have found a 24oz Polar Bottle, use it every day now. Then yesterday found a not so cool Performance waterbottle. Nothing else recently I can recall. I too am a changer picker upper. Over the years have picked up much change.

I've been finding quite a few radiator caps on the road... and oddly no cars stopped to the side down the road! Also because of frequent fender benders, the sides of the roads are full of car debris, mostly front plastic bumpers, parts of headlights and turn signals and the occasional hood emblem stuck to a smashed grill.

Another odd thing, especially for Athens at this time is that a few road-width carved out sections have begun to be patched. I say this because these sections where cut out of the pavement to place cables or plumbing and are filled afterwards with dirt and are usually left since they don't cause any concern with cars or motorcycles, only to bicycles rims. A section of my commutes has three of these and suddenly they where patched up one morning!

Write Polar and tell them you'd like a new cap, stating that even though they state their caps are standard, they are not. They'll send you a couple free ones.

I did pretty much that. I got 3 new ones sent out to my surprise. If I did not know better, I would think Polar set this up as a trap. Won a customer with that ground score.

Found a lovely roofing nail the other day. Didn't even have to stop to pick it up; just pulled it out of my tire after all the air came out.

About a month ago, I found a nice flashlight. I left it there in the hopes that the rightful owner would have come back to claim it.

Then this weekend found a nice bottle opener next to my bike when I came out of the liquor store. Good timing as I had just picked up a 6-pack of bottled beer!

A front deer leg on the MUP along the Mississippi/Minnesota rivers confluence yesterday. I suspect a scavenging bald eagle dropped it. It was gone this morning.

Strangest thing so far, a scale model black casket about 10 cm long. I think it belonged to some cult.

Found a couple 9mm shells at an overpass once. Car-to-car shootout maybe?
