add mud guards and a mirror and it looks like one of my commuters also can't see what tyres you have but I run 700x23C specialized elite armadillos

Or use a trunk bag - I have found them to be much better than panniers.

Bell, fenders, lights, trunk bag, pump, wider-range casette, saddle bag, wider tires, SPD pedals/shoes. Or just ride as is.
