That's absurd. I'm sure she'll win her fight because that is absolutely rediculous. The cop could have at least let her off with a warning. He must've just had nothing else to do other than write abstract tickets. Those are the cops that make your days miserable.

wish I had the 1915? picture of my grandfather carrying a case of grapes with one arm on a single speed bike in The Bronx. while the ticket is a bit much I would never personally carry anything like that. I'm a big fan of the rear rack and everyone in my family has one. that's 4 bikes for me; two for the wife; and each of two kids. 8 bikes; 8 rear racks. simple and safe.
edit: hmmm ... just looked at the picture a second time and i see she does have a rear rack. looks like all she needs is a bungee cord.

That helmet won't do her much good in a fall pushed back like that, and those shoes unless she gets some toe-clips are going to be slipping around on the pedals. And why is she riding on the sidewalk? Sidewalks are for pedestrians; bicycles are vehicles.

Did you actually see the clip of the incident? The young man was riding along, minding his own business, and the officer attacked him without warning or provocation. "Asault under Cover of Authority", I believe is the legal term.

Not only is she on the sidewalk with helmet tipped back, but she has no child seat or trailer on her folder bike to carry her 4 yr. old; according to article she was heading to the child's school.

No, I did not see that clip. The way the post was worded, it gave me the impression that the police are now reacting to something that the CMers did. Either way, I still strongly disagree with CM.

This photo was obviously after the incident, not when it happened. So she probably just threw a helmet on and posed on the sidewalk. It doesn't mean this is the way she was the day it happened.

Sorry folks but I think ya got it all wrong. The Tote bag was politcally incorrect and that's why she got the ticket. To avoid the ticket, she should have had a plastic grocery bag on her handlebar.

keeping up to date with local laws and following them = sure way of not getting hit with a stupid ticket. Cops will do what cops want to do; saw a guy get pulled over in Laramie, WY for riding in the gutter (the cop blocked an active intersection to get him as if he was hauling booty from a ship raid or something...), which I do every day when the bike lane ends on my commute to school. Following local laws would have prevented that though, as well as the purse thing.

If the police officer is really writing tickets that he knows will be thrown out as unjustified then he should be fired.
