The Wall Street Journal recently mentioned this jacket in a recent article. Nice to see what it looks like and its features on video. The price will be USD 1,400. It's extremely well made and worth the money IMHO for the quality of the fabrics used, its design and craftsmanship. I would try to stuff my piggy bank to buy one if I lived in a city with colder climate, even though I don't have thousands of dollars burning in my pocket.

I have a Riv and got my cycling jacket from a thrift store.

I have a Carhartt jacket in my car.

That jacket would be well worth $1,400 to me -- if it came with about $1,300 in cash stuffed in the beautifully stitched pockets. I'm just not stylish or rich enough to care about stuff like that.

Damn, that looks like a lot of thought has gone into the design, more than most pieces of clothing....

I dont mean what it looks like but all the bibs and bobs that do this and that. Things like a headphone line holder (lets not get into the headphone debate here huh?), key holder, fasteners and rucksack straps inside so you can carry it easily if it warms up. Even those have a strip of reflective tape.

Its a nifty jacket, but $1300? I might not have spent that much in my entire life on jackets. Ok, I suppose I probably have, but not much more than that. I think the most interesting thing in the video what the guy's hair. Riveting and awesome. =)

I am wondering how many years of hardish use that would stand and still be wearable. I have bought a few biking outer shell jackets, and will probably buy a few more before I am done. I guess it would have to last a lifetime before it became economic.

Maybe if it had a Tilley hat style replacement policy?

It's targeted at people like me that want something that could be semi-casual wear, instead of being easily identified as cycling wear. I ride around in a non-competitive manner in regular clothes, and have a total aversion to anything that has racy graphics or speed styling. I guess a sizable chunk of the C&V crowd would find it interesting.

I'm led to believe most of it is made in the UK, with UK fabrics, design, labor, so that's what you're paying for. If they sourced the fabrics and made it out of China, they could probably cut the price in half.

I did kind of laugh when he described it as 'democratic'. If anything, this is the sort of item that old money buys--subtle in appearance, but superbly crafted and finished with plenty details. Despite all it's features, it's not a pure utility item, no sense in reasoning it that way; it's a luxury item.

Still, too rich for me, and I ride a riv too. I could buy a few fancy non-cycling specific jackets for that price which may not have quite the optimization of design, but work well enough.

And I thought my Shower's Pass Elite 2.0 was 'spendy' but it's the best commuting shell I've ever had and is worth every bit.
