My contracting manager is mad because I come into work late a lot (shifting my vacation time around ...), though my functional managers don't care.

Well I found out that when I wake up at 5am I'm awake, whereas waking up at 6:30 oddly enough doesn't work and I just go back to sleep until 9. Strange.

I also found out that riding my bike at 6am leads to freezing my ass right off; I couldn't keep moving, eventually put on the wind and rain jacket and continued on my way.

So much for extreme heat warnings. Yeesh.

I hear you. The first mile of my commute is a fast downhill, and I was freezing this morning. It took me a few miles to warm up.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one missing out on summer.

it's hard for me to fathom how anyone could ever be cold in baltimore in july. i've been to baltimore in july before, "cold" is the very last word i would use to describe my experience there. even in the dead of night i doubt the temps there ever drop below 60 degrees at this time of year, which certainly doesn't count as "cold" in my book. "cold" is a 12 degree january morning with a 30 knot wind blasting at me right off the lake.

I keep a log of what I wear at what temps. I've found that, especially if it's been warm for a couple of weeks prior, that I need a light windbreaker for anything under 61 degrees. It's been hovering around that mark when I ride in for the last week.

So what's the big deal. Cold is when you can't grip the bars. Hot is when the pavement melts under your tires. Everything in between is great. All weather is just a test. Embrace it and you will find that the universe will love you back.

Rain hurts though - not sure what the test is there.

dude, you really are pretty fragile. Mid-50s at 6am is refreshing, not cold.

57F when I left at just before 5am this morning. Shorts, short sleeves, lightweight arm warmers. I would have liked more up top on the 2 mile downhill segment, but then I'd have been overheating the rest of the ride.

Those temps are amazing and are a big motivator for me getting up to ride early since it makes me less of a Senor Sweatypants

55 here...I wore my knickers the last two mornings...my knees are for wussy.

57 F is the winter High on the Coast, here.

I can't wear a jacket at any temp over 50F or I sweat like a pig.

Yeah, I usually just add a long-sleeve base for temps 45ish-55ish.

55° is my typical shorts-are-OK point. Sometimes I'll wear shorts down to 52° so I don't have to change later.

Ideal cycling temp for me = 67°

I broke out the jacket at about 62° the other day. I had to ride REALLY slow to keep the sweating in check, though. That was OK though as it was a beautiful day with light mist.

It's around mid 60s to low 70s some mornings when I leave here, which I consider cold, but it doesn't take long to warm up.

I wear my khakis, t-shirt and uniform shirt when I ride in the morning. It is chilly but my commute is only 5 miles/15 minutes long so I deal with it.

I'm trying to remember what cold felt like. Our overnight low here is 80.

Well I did run into another guy on a bike coming in, headed to the same building. Do you see what I started?

When I first saw this thread, I thought someone might be complaining about having a virus. Then I read a little more and thought, it was an old thread from the winter. But then I realized that the OP just needed to HTFU.

I am sure it is ALL YOU and has nothing to do with summer.

Because the summer just started 2 days ago.

I would burn up at 57 with anything on other than summer wear. I often wear shorts with a lite jacket in the low forties or even mid to upper thirties. I love early spring when I am only in Summer gear and I see someone ride by in a balaclava and enough clothing to get me into the single digits.

OP I'm with you...I leave at 0530 and I'm usually borderline cold unless it's about 75. The other day it was about 70 and after a few minutes I started digging through my backpack in the hopes I had left my long sleeve shirt in it, but no luck. But I'm usually good to go after about 5-6 miles and when the sun gets a bit higher. Dreading the fall/winter for sure.

Wait, so you're supposed to wake up and go to work at 6:30 but you go back to sleep and don't wake up till 9!!! wow, i can see why you're managers are mad. I wake up late sometimes but not 2-1/2hours late. I think you need a snooze alarm dude.

No I'm supposed to be in around 9;30 and I show up around 10-11 sometimes. The only manager that's mad is a non-functional manager for an outside contracting company. Everyone in the actual organization I work for is fine, though someone cautioned me to not make the bean counters mad. I've got vacation time to fuzz my hours.
