When using only one pannier...
Do you mount it on the traffic side or the curb side?

The only thing I would think about is what side to mount it on to get it out my front door more easily and traffic side makes the most sense to me as well so they match up!

Traffic side, as I want the reflective markings on the pannier to stick as far out into the roadway as possible. At first I thought this thread was about which side to mount the bike from, which leads to the embarrassing admission that...
...I can only mount and dismount on the left side of the bike.

I go traffic side with my one basket because when I break a rear spoke it's always the drive side. I figure the wheel's stronger on the traffic side. Plus if I'm ever in an accident with a vehicle it's likely to be on that side, and this gives a little more something that's "not me" to hit over there. If it gives me a .2% better survival rate I'll take it.

If I was rocking only one pannier, I would have it on the traffic side.

Traffic side.. because that's where my kickstand is. I don't need to worry about overloading the side opposite the kickstand and having it put my bike off balance when I park it.

I switch mine every week. I know a guy whose stay cracked on the side he always kept his pannier on, he had 531 tubing though. So maybe light tubing + heavy pannier always on one side = extra wear on that side. Or maybe it was coincidence.

When I had a single-leg kickstand, it was curb side, so it was on the "high" side of the bike when parked.
I now have a double-leg stand, but still keep it on the curb side. I guess it stays away from car splashes there.
My "pannier' is actually a briefcase so I don't have reflectors on it. If I did, I'd probably do traffic side.

Initially started out traffic side until the seams gave out and it started losing stuff. Then switched to the right pannier, which is now in a similar condition. The pressing question: I have a new pair of panniers now, but do I go back to traffic side, or continue on with the curb side since I'm now used to that??
