Read the threads when it first came up. Hadn't been keeping up but my god what a mess it's become...
Just chipped in, hope you get enough to continue your fight. Have those affluent bike blogs picked up your story? Those guys are probably suckers for things like this where traditional media gets it all wrong.

By the way, it was me that approved this.

I'm below broke at this point, but I'm really going to try to hold at least a bit back come payday. Very important issue, IMO.
Also, BikeMomTn, don't be so sure that everyone takes away from the stories that you're the evil Mom. Even though it's spun and isn't entirely truthful, I think the headline is very much in your favor. People see something along the lines of "Mom in trouble with police for letting child ride bike to school" and it immediately conjures up images of the "typical ridiculous government". The very notion for most folks who walked or rode to school for miles is just absurd, and it immediately makes them look silly for pursuing it.
So, there are two ways of seeing it, but I think ultimately most people are going to walk away from it thinking it's absolutely silly a parent can get in trouble for letting a child go to school by themselves. As Americans, we are sometimes a bit paranoid, but we are pretty naturally cynical of government. I think you are the winner in the media battle, when all is said and done. Just my point of view.

Tom - thank you for approving this
And sudo I hear 1 of 2 things..either I'm just so lazy I can't take her to school or that this is absolutely absurd. The negative is in reality only about 12-15% of the total comments but like Chip tells me, haters will hate

I just wanted to point out that even a five dollar contribution will add up if a lot of people make it.
I put the link to this site in my signature but I couldn't figure out how to name the link instead of showing the link itself. I couldn't find anything in FAQ. Could somebody help me out please?

I can't believe how slow this forum was yesterday...is everyone on vacation? AM I THE ONLY BIKE COMMUTER LEFT IN THE WORLD?
Whoa, I had a twilight zone attack there for a minute, sorry I blew up.
Come on commuters, any help for this mother of a young bike commuter would be greatly appreciated!

Some may question why I did? Well, there is boy of no older than 10 years of age that commute in the opposite direction after I get off from work. I saw him mature with his mom when he was learning the rule of the road riding with his mom. It was not long after that when I saw him commuting alone. He rides a bike with a rack and all. He wear a safety vest and keeps his helmet on. He is very caution at the intersection. I can see clearly in his eyes he takes pride in his commute.
Several month ago, I saw him with a small cage tied to his rack and it looks like a little critter in the cage. He was riding gracefully down the stretch when I was surprise to see him with that cage tied to the rack in the back. Picture moment of this nature last a lifetime and it's a reminder that commuting kids of that age are paving the road with stepping stone for the future of bicycling commute

Good luck BikeMomTn. I wish you the best.

only way i see her not needing a lawyer is if she is riding to and from WITH mom every day. then the child is under constant adult supervision, and it might be hard to make a case of parent neglect or indifference.

By the way, I rode my bike to school, 11 miles round trip when I was 10. I seem to have survived and my ride included a state highway.

Just saw this. Like so many, I've been following this for several days now. Something is seriously wrong, if a child cannot ride a bike to school. A donation has been sent.
