Question about two different U-locks

Ok, so I went to my local bike shop and wanted to pick a decent lock for my new $280 Specialized Crossroads bike I got from CL. I saw a $40 Kryptonite lock which seemed about right, it was the series 2 STD: https://www.kryptonitelock.com/Produc...=1000&pid=1205

Alright so I drop by Walmart and then I see another Krptonite just like mine only for $16.99 called the U409 which looks practically the same except that it rattles a bit more when you shake it, the protective cover over the U part of the lock is a matt finish rather than a glass, the cover to the key hole is different but the thickness of the steel of both look the same. In fact, I could even fit the U part of the U lock from the walmart lock into the series 2 lock. From a safety perspective, are both equally as good? Is this enough lock for my bike? Thanks a lot, I just don't want another bike stolen.

Hey there Dragonwalker!

I never heard of a Kryptonite Lock that rattled, before!

OTOH- If a thief really wants your bike, Walmart versus LBS, won't really matter that much!

If it's a Kyrtonite, just buy it! Especially, if their locking mechanism looks the same...

PS.

I would want to open/reopen a few times before the final purchase...Or maybe just do it in the store before you exit!

Get this...

... it's head and shoulders above the models you are looking at and ranks as one of the best.

Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboutit Mini Bicycle U-Lock

I think the ratio of bike $ relative to lock purchase formulas out there are pretty silly. I don't care if your bike is $280, or $10,280 - spend the 20 bucks extra and get the best lock. It's worth the emotional cost and inconvenience of having your bike stolen.

If you can't afford this one right now, plan on getting it soon!
