They also make a version of the classic trucker jacket for cycling. Longer sleeves and tail, reflective patches, "jersey" pockets on the back, water resistant.
The trouble with the jeans is that they're based on the 511 "skinny" cut. I can't get them up over my quads unless I buy two sizes too big at which point the waist doesn't fit. I wear classic 501s at work, and those barely fit me any more.

I like that a big name merchandiser like Levis is supporting cycling with these, the more mainstream the idea of cycling becomes in the US the better. Just not for me though. I wear jeans every day but I do not wear jeans to bed, nor do I wear them on my bikes.

I commute in regular jeans and don't see what is so bad about them. My commute is only 7 miles each way though. I definitely see myself as a minority in the seattle area....

A couple problems with riding in jeans... at least for me.
I'd consider buying jeans that addressed these problems... but a strap and reflective stripes don't do it for me.
- They don't come up high enough in the back -> crack exposure.
- The rather bulky seams are in all the wrong places for crotch comfort in the saddle.

you don't build massive quads by pushing your bike to the coffee shop, nor do you get them from photographing your bike in "gritty" urban settings?

Are you saying that wearing these jeans makes riders unsafe? The jeans cause people to ride without helmets, in the rain, at night?

When I wore skinny jeans, I always looked like I was prepared for a flood every time I got off the bike, and I had to constantly pull my pant legs down due to my oversized quads. Thank goodness for the advent of the "relaxed" fit.

I ride in jeans all the time, and any other pants I happen to be wearing. No problems. Being naturally thin at 130 lbs, my quads don't get huge no matter how much I ride and run. I am glad to see a large business recognizing the idea that people do ride in everyday clothes and not just spandex. I've been riding in everyday clothes since I was a kid. However, those pants don't even look good or comfortable in the pictures on the Levi web site with their model. They might want to put a bit more effort into making something that looks better.

i've often wondered why i see so many hipster cyclists here in chicago riding around in their "skinny" jeans. how do they not develop massive quads that preclude wearing such clothing. i only bike 28 miles a day on my commuting runs, and even my quads are stupidly large enough to make skinny jeans a non-starter for me.

Well, it could be the Pabst Blue Ribbons and the packs of American Spirits. Seriously, hipsters don't ride very far. Bikes are fashion statements.
