got to work this afternoon
So I was sitting around my apartment when it started to snow. Yay!! After it was snowing for about an hour my boss calls me in. Alright I said. I don't own a car so I rode my bike. Work is 6.54 miles. So as this being my first longer ride in snow I thought I would share. I started out good with my new waterproof pants regular running shoes, base layer etc etc. Here is the good part. I show up at work and my boss has a crazy look on his face. The place has marble floors so I took my hike around back. It was snowing during my entire 6 mile ride. It was about 32 degrees. Not bad. I was soaked by the time I got to work. I felt like a sponge. Every time I took a step my feet splattered. It was fun tho. The best part was when I saw the look on my bosses face when i showed up on my bike. Haha it still makes me laugh. A customer was very interested in me as I showed up saying how i was a leader for cycles and the he was seeing history in the makeing. I was glad he was excited I rode my bike. Made my day. I got to work oj with no problems. It was fun. Thanks for reading!!!

Awesome
I had my first ride through light snow this month, haven't seen any since. It was fun, but like you I was soaked. I don't have the cash for expensive rain gear so I'll have to make due with whatever I can find for my eight mile commute.
Part of the trail I'll be using isn't going to be plowed, so the guys on snowmobiles have somewhere to ride, I haven't decided how I'm going to get around that spot yet, the cars move too fast for me to fight with them. Maybe I'll use the grade school trails for part of the commute.
Have fun and be safe this winter!

Congrats, good on your for setting the example.
I can tell you from experience that you are going to want some better shoes for winter commuting. I am assuming you will get more snow than me here in Iowa, and if that is the case, a good pare of gore-Tex sneakers will go a long way.
I have fenders and a pretty heavy duty mud flap on my winter commuter and I still manage to get my feet really wet, which isn't too bad at 30 F, but when the temps are hovering around 0 F cold toes become a serious problem. The upshot is that when the temps get down to about 20 F the rest of your body stays pretty dry, it's like snow skiing.

I did my first snow (well, more of a wintery mix) ride yesterday on the way home. Everything was ok except my toes - running shoes are definitely not going to cut it!

Nice. Great 'pick-me-up' commuter story. Maybe start thinking about studded tires and Power Grips if you're going to make this a habit.

I ride 5 days a week. I'm going to get a pair of shoes. Better gloves as well sms I'm thinking of makeing my own studded tires. I should be pretty good right now with what I got. Bit when its almost zero degrees. I'll be added more gear. also the route I take has many spots where plow trucks have plowed snow onto sidewalks. Traffic is pretty heavy when I ride. I didn't see anyone on my bike today. We got a lot of snow in northern Indiana with lots of wind to. Road conditions on my way back home today were good. all though. There are huge puddles everywhere and some you can't tell how deep they are so be careful out there.
