Same type of day today as yesterday -warm and windy. Wind more to the back today though, which was nice. Did a bit extra, and felt pretty good for the whole ride. Temps are supposed to keep climbing all week with mid 80's or higher by Friday. Pretty unprecedented for WA in June.

50s, windy and cold rain...but somehow I still enjoyed it, think there is something wrong with me?
The weather here in NY has been tough since the Winter, enough already! It IS June, isn't it? |
No commute today. I had to take my wife to the airport before work. I'll just have to ride harder tomorrow.
|
Still "winter". Still in short sleeves.
|
Do you have a bike yet? What's your story with that?
|
You mean you've not been keeping up? ;) Yes, I bought my new bike about two days after the old one went missing. My LBS did an excellent job to come up with the replacement straight away (or maybe I was just lucky?). If anything it rides better than the other one did. I could almost thank the thief of the otherone!
OK, well maybe not thank them as such... |
Yesterday, it was warm (maybe a little too warm) with slight winds. Honeysuckle is blooming on the side of the road now. :)
Today I can't really commute--a staff meeting in the morning, then an 8-hour day a little after that....just isn't convenient. Anyway, my knees hurt from pushing on the hills instead of downshifting, and my feet hurt for God-knows-what reason.... |
Yesterday's ride in was cold and damp with a 20 kph northeast wind off Lake Ontario. Temp of about +9 C (48 F). I was at an offsite meeting all day so I left my bike in the back of my truck - It got a good rinsing with heavy rain all afternoon. I played ball hockey for 2 hours after work, by the time I came out, it had stopped raining and was just cold and damp. Had a tailwind on the way home, it started raining again as soon as I turned into the driveway!
This morning was cold and damp again some fog, but a great ride anyways! |
Nice ride in this morning. Along the route I saw what appeared to be a reflector in the center of my half of the road. I figured someone had lost a reflector or something like that. It turned out to be a pair of eyes from a cat that was staring at me as I approached. :) He ran off as I got a bit closer.

Another good ride this morning...upper 70's, slight headwind. I set a new PR... I saw 55 cyclists on the way to work. One group of 15 that was probably a club ride.
|
Hi Folks,
I felt kind of sluggish this morning - there was a bit of headwind on the first section too, so no records today. The new commute has such a different, continuous pace to it that I am still adjusting from the stop-start routine of the old route. Weather has been very kind for the last few days. Cheers, Ed |
Still back and forth between sunny days (too few) and rainy days (too many). On the bright side, tomorrow is my last day commuting via mountain bike. I take delivery of a Vision R40 bent. I will ride this until August when the Mango (velomobile) shows up. Happy Days!
|
All days are alike this week. However it keeps getting warmer and warmer. Over 70 when a left home today, with a projected high of 86. Unseasonable warm as they say. Anyway the ride was nice, with a bit of a tailwind here and there, though much gentler wind than the last few days. Guess the region has adapted to the heat somewhat. The steeplechase through the fair weather trail users continue. Felt really good riding in for a Thursday --usually start to feel a bit sagged toward the end of the week. So all in all a nice commute.

On my commute home, I was deliberately run off the road today by a taxi driver. Needless to say, I managed to get his license number and reported him to both the police and to the taxi company!
Other than some bumps and bruises and a bruised ego, I am fine. I just hope the jerk who did this has to account for his actions. |
Well, I guess that makes my flat tire seem pretty OK. I find it very upsetting when people do things deliberately that can hurt you. That kind of stuff is really hard to deal with, I tend to fume about that sort of stuff for weeks. That is the worst part of it. Try not to let it get you down.
|
Holy Cow! I'm glad you're ok. ???
I've been grazed, but never deliberately. You must have some bozos living in your area. Keep after it! A few weeks back I was cut off by a driver that turned into me. I smacked into the rear corner of her vechicle and she kept going...she was too busy talking on her cell phone. At any rate, to my suprise, a sheriff saw the whole thing and pulled her over. I don't know if she got a ticket, but it was cool to see that a cop was actually around when you needed one. Apollo  |
Today wasn't the best commuting experience I have had. On the way I my chain started skipping. 3/4ths of the way in I finally noticed that the inner plate on one of the links was beginning to work itself off the rivet. Fortunately, I made it to the office OK. I've left my car there so I was able to drive to a bike shop and get it fixed.
Then this afternoon I had two motorists pass me and immediately make right hand turns causing me to have to slow up. The first one was a lady in a camper. I pulled into the service station to discuss the situation with her but she wouldn't wind down the window. I think I finally convinced her that her made a mistake 'cause she looked apologetic and pointed to herself. The other guy had his window down so I just yelled at him as I went by. What is it with drivers that they can't wait 1-2 seconds until I'm past the side street? SteveE |
Well, this run of fine warm weather had to end sometime - and it was today.
Nearly had a moment at the bottom of my street when I braked, only to discover that I must have got a tiny amount of lube on the rim after cleaning the chain yesterday. Luckily it just wore off in time! That is a very good reason for NOT using a spray lube. I would not normally, but it was some stuff for motorbike chains left by someone else at work. Hope you all have a good weekend, Cheers, Ed |
It wouldn't be the week I've had without a Friday night flat. :( . Oh well, long weekend this weekend, I'm off to the Darling Downs for a few days. I think it's about time to piss off for a couple of days.
|
No rain this morning but the roads were still wet from rain last night. I though the ride was going slow but when I got to work I found that I made it in 1 hour exactly so I guess the ride was actually fast for my 18.5 miles. It's suppose to be a nice day, we'll see, it sure would be nice to ride in the sunshine without headwind. Have a great day and a great weekend, keep turning those cranks.
|
This morning I had planned to take it easy since I did 3 separate rides yesterday and felt tired when I woke up this moring. Wouldn't you know it, I set a PR by 1 second :). I also almost gagged when I inhaled a bug :(
BTW, you know your bike like is bright when bugs start flying into it. I had a couple different bugs fly right into the headlight this morning. Daniel: I hope you're OK after being forced off of the road. Zack |
Had a good ride in this morning. The sun was out for the first time in a few days, so that helped a bit. I was up early and at work earlier than ever today. My legs are feeling the 6 straight days of riding, so I'm ready for a weekend off - I just have to get home tonite and then I'll be off the bike till monday morning (upon reading that over, it almost sounds as if I'm not enjoying commuting...which is not the case, but I do need a couple days off :) ).
This week was the "Commuter Challenge" (http://commuterchallenge.ca/) at work. I've logged 100km this week for my workplace. For some reason the challenge considers car pooling equal to cycling, so some people have 100's of km of driving, which annoys me a bit. However, I'm certainly not against car pooling, as it's better than each person driving individually. I just wish that they gave more weight to walking/cycling/etc. as opposed to driving. What do you all think? I've also started to post a log of my cycling on my webpage. You can take a look at it if you want, at http://www.oxford.net/~davecope/outdoors/bikelog.htm As it says on the page, I mainly posted it for motivation, so I don't expect you all to rush over and take a look - it's not really that exciting! Anyway, that's enough for today. Darren |
Finally, a beautiful morning here in waterlogged southern Ontario, though more rain is in the forecast.
It was a wonderful ride to work other than the idiot who almost cut me off. I had signalled to ride into the left turning lane, got ready to turn left, stopped for an oncoming car, noticed a van pull up beside me in the straight-through lane, and then noticed that he was also turning left right in front of me instead of pulling up behind me in the left turn lane and waiting his turn. Looking forward to my ride home--the sun is still shining! |
Man hot today --record setting temps in W, Washington. Great ride in though before it becomes too warm. I saw a great blue heron fishing in the stream, and was paced for a while by a giant dragonfly and later a Tiger Swallowtail. Then doing a bit extra on the trail I was passed by some sort of school outing of about 30 kids on bikes. Crazy!
|
The commute today sucked because I'm on call for the week starting today and I had to drive! Finally some sun and no bike!
I'll be bringing a road bike to work next week for some lunch time sprints. I've also come up with some working applications for a mountain bike that I want to try out next week. Might be bringing 2 bikes to work! |
