Hey everyone send some of that rain this way! I haven't been over here in awhile and thought I would post as I am now commuting everyday and enjoying the gas savings. Todays commute was a beautiful 78 degrees (as opposed to the 90 degree morning commutes and 113 degree evening commutes of last week). I hope the weather holds out but living in the Arizona desert I know that hope is vain. I guess I can still hope for rain! Anyway, the commute was nice and I can honestly say, after two years of commuting I think I have found the best route. Anyway, great commute today.

Hang in there, Paul! The monsoons are just another month or so away! Where are you in AZ, btw? I used to live in N Phoenix and my folks and youngest brother still live there.

I live in mesa and work on the border of Tempe and Phoenix (I grew up in Flagstaff so getting use to the heat has been interesting). Luckily there are many water fountains between work and home to soak the jersey in. Heres hoping for an early monsoon this year! |
Downtown Sac is dead today, all but a few state workers are home because the Governor closed the state government for RR's funeral. Unfortunately, I'm one of those few who had to work today. Nice to have mostly empty streets to myself this morning.

Hey Paul, I wish I could send the rain to you along with the COLD air!
Well, on the trip home, IN THE RAIN, I was passed by 2 roadies in full kit. I lost sight of them around the first bend and didn't get another glimpse of them. Man, they were hauling a$$! :D |
No rain but cloudy with a few sunbreaks today. It was 56F at 6AM but I'm still not seeing many cyclists out & about.

First commute for me today (hello everyone!). Picked up my '02 Alpe D 'Huez at the LBS this morning and got to
try it out riding to work this past evening. Nice and hot out when I rode in at 3 p.m. Beautiful cool evening riding back around 12 am. I'm in a northern suburb of Atlanta where bike commuting has not quite caught on. |
Hello Alphie and other fellow commuters.
I also started commuting this week. Biked in Tues. and Thurs. 24 Klicks each way. I have had excellent weather but windy. I am riding a Lemond Poprad. I start work at 7am so I am up by 5:30. |
Nice ride in this morning for the 9-6 shift. Took an errant shortcut on the way to work that led to a couple
of extra miles. No problem though, I allowed plenty of time to get to work today. Ride home was hot, but with thankfully light traffic. Corrected my shortcut error this evening. |
Its nice to see the new commuters. Alphie, maybe your riding will encourage others, I have a coworker who says he's going to start riding this week and maybe we'll even go out for a quick ride at luch. Its infectious.
I had a great ride in this morning. Drill weekends suck, but they get a lot better when I ride in. A cold front rolled through last night so it was in the mid 60's for the ride. |
No work today, put on fenders, bought a rain jacket and a bag that will be modified to fit the handlebars. Looks like I'll get to try the rain gear out tomorrow. Dave, I only hope to get others to bike-commute traffic here is no fun. I work such unusual hours that I don't experience rush hour that much; tomorrow will be different as I work the 9-6 shift. :/
|
Well, just sold my commuter so it will be at least 2 weeks until I'm riding to work again. It was either sell it now or donate it to charity (I needed the $ to finish building its replacement), so unfortunately its gone. I kept the seat, pedals, pump, computer, lights, and water bottle cages to install on my new Cross Check. I'll miss it but I out grew it too and feel I needed a more competant road bike for the touring and multi-day rides especially. I'll miss the rides and hope to be back on the road asap.

Nice ride in this morning, no wind, nice temps and legs that were feeling good after a couple of light days over the weekend. The numbers of other bikers out this morning was back up - its good to see so many others out and about each morning.
|
I bought a set of panners this weekend and loaded them up for my commute to work today. The weight was not evenly distributed but was not off by too much. I put the heavest one on the left side of the rack. With about 80% of my commute over my left leg started to ache, may be more like a cramp. My question is could this be due to the heaver pack on the right side? Was the pack making my right leg work harder, any suggestions or answers?
Other than thay I took the river route to work today It added about 2 miles and 15 mins to the ride but I enjoyed the change of senaery. |
Nice morning for a change. Temp in the low 50s with SSW winds gusting around 20MPH. The ride in felt great and went by quickly. This was my first time back on the bike since my first Century on Saturday. I'm glad to report, everything still works. :D
|
Well, I was very thankful for the aero bars this morning as I used up all the strength in my right arm setting up flags for the boy scouts (fund raiser, I had to drive 58 pieces of rebar into the ground with a sledge hammer to hold as many flags up). Nice warm morning too by the time I started heading off to work. Computer said it was 100 degrees at 9:00 AM, even allowing for bike computer temp inflation thats still pretty warm for that time of morning.
|
My 6 miles was very nice, and after a 40 mile ride yesterday (my longest yet!) it was great to get on the bike and do more. I'll be riding in a few minutes as I go to lunch too :D

Ah, what a beautiful morning to ride in this morning, it coaxed me to take the long way in. I also did a river run to Dinkytown on my lunch break. I've got a floating holiday that I've got use by the end of the month or lose it, I'm aiming for Wednesday for a day ride, if it's raining I'll just go to work and try another day. I'm looking forward to the ride home too.
|
Overcast, a hint of drizzle and a peak at blue skies. Nice ride in except for the monday blues.
|
Very humid but not too hot this morning going in. Threatening thunderstorms on the way home but stayed dry. I'm always in a better mood when riding to work and home rather than driving. Even makes the beer taste better. :)
|
Ride home was nice. Around 70F with 30MPH gusts. First ride in just jersey and shorts in quite a while.
|
Well it is finally light enough at 4:15 to ride in without headlights (well cars may not see me but at least it is bright enough for me to see where I'm going). There's no shower at work so it's slow and steady all the way! $3 from the company every time I ride in! ;)
