Nice ride. I bit hot. The air above the pavement was all wavey/mirage-like from the sun.
I was slowing down/semi-stopping at a stop sign and a cyclist wooshed by me. I think that was the first time it has ever happened. I needed to push a bit to keep up with him for the next few blocks until he turned off. He was wearing a Discovery Channel jersey. That's the second time I saw one of those jerseys... I wonder where they are from.
Otherwise, quiet commute.

Nice ride in on the single speed. Go figure. I had no desire to take the roadie.
Today was bike to work day. I think I saw something like 100-200 other riders. Felt like I was on a disorganized organized ride. Unfortunately, I woke up an hr late to recover from yesterday and did not have time to stop at the feeding stations.
I think I will add a cheap folding tire to my repair kit I take to work. 2 tire failures in a year is 2 to many.
Now if I can find a cheap folding tire....

Made it home last night while avoiding some storms. Commute this morning was peaceful and flat-free.

Another good one, cool and dry with temps in the low 70's. I've been adding miles by crossing the river at the Memorial instead of the 14th St. bridge then coming down West Potomac Park along with the many roadies who use it for training. Since installing a new computer a couple of weeks ago I discovered that my avg. weekly mileage has suffered recently, now I'm working more to keep it nearer the 100 miles a week I used to average (so far the best I've done is low 90's). I've also noticed that, probably as a result of increased mileage, my knees are a little sore. I'm concentrating on more spinning and icing them and using muscle rubs in the evening as a way of keeping them healthy. My commuting will likely be my only form of training this year so it's got to count.

Ride in was great. maybe 65-68*F, just a bit humid. Fine once I got moving. Had a heavy load this morning since I was changing out some of my office supplies like towels, shoes, etc. Had to pry-bar my panniers shut. The load was barely noticeable except for the tough hills I have.

Bike to work Day in Denver -
Saw about 50 other commuters and tried out a new route. The new route is junk - I ran over a huge piece of glass near Oxford in Sheridan and got an insta-flat. Tube I had with me turned out to be a dud. I was on my cross-bike and had many offers for help from roadies(?) of all people
The City of Sheridan needs to get their act together and sweep their ****-ass streets.
Pros- I was near a lightrail station and took that the rest of the way to work. Only made it 9 miles (
) on my bike
Cons - Didn't get to finish the rest of my commute to work before I ride home in the 90 degree temps this afternoon.

Nice day, nice ride in to work. Nothing note worthy to report. Oh I did see another cyclist off in the distance. Around here where the transportation system seems unfriendly to bikers I rarely see bicycles on the road; except children, much less commuters.

Took the direct route in, rode the fixed gear, wore office clothes on the bike. Probably nothing geekier than middle-aged desk jockey on an old fixed conversion with dork bands on his pant cuffs.
Saw a guy on a beautiful Rivendell Quickbeam this morning. That might be the perfect Sacramento commute machine. Gorgeous.

My wife got back from her business trip, so for the first time in 2 weeks we rode in together. Last night I surprised her with a new bike for her birthday, which she ended up riding to work this morning because her normal commuter had a rear flat. She said that her seat was a bit low, but she can fix that before she heads home tonight.

Bike to work day! TONS of other cyclists out... maybe some of them will do it more often... who knows.
Guess we'll see... the number of bike commuters around Denver has been steadily climbing as gas prices rise... been doing it for 3 years now and seeing more and more cyclists all the time.

Drove to work. I had intended to ride but came across 2 BikeNinjas and another weaver/wrong way rider...at 430 am. No way will I get on the path OR the road today. Not happy about it but its one day out of the year and they can keep the MUP for now. DJ, you saw how many?! Kripes! No thank you! I guess I'll get used to it but didn't feel like risking a head on in an underpass so early in the morning.
Hope everyone else had fun.

Nice morning. Managed to get the kids to camp dropoff JUST as the bus was about to leave, then rode a nice 12 miles to the office. Sunny and 75 degrees, light haze. Nice day.
The commute home last night on the single speed was brutal! Very gusty thunderstorm winds the entire way. Been having knee issues. That wind didn't help at all! Thursday's commute will be on a geared bke just so I can baby the knees.
Unfortunately, Wednesdays are one of two days where I have to drive to work.
Traffic was notably lighter. Saw several cyclists in the DTC and Inverness areas.

I was heading north on my tarmac after my lovely tire incidents and it had the opposite effect for me. I was reaching 30mph on the platte. EEEK!
That and I was in a horrible mood so it was a welcome change.

DJ-Dude! You are WAY LUCKY! At one point, I had to stand to keep the pedals turning into the wind on the Bear Creek Trail heading west toward home. (very flat!) UGH!
Think I will ride the MTB on Thursday and Friday's commute. Lots of easy gears.

Had to stay a little late last night to avoid the storms that rolled through. I put fenders on my commuter about a month ago and I really don't know how I've ridden without them for so long, they ROCK! This morning I hit 42mph on the big downhill which was fun. No rain/storms forecast for this afternoon so I am looking forward to the dry ride home.

I hear a lot about this bear creek trail - where is it? I doesn't look very established on my Denver Bicycle Touring map.
Matty-
Head south on the Platte to just south of Hampden. The Platte will cross the river to the eastern shore and the Bear Creek will continue straight. (simplistic I know) The BCT runs all the way out to Morrison and is a little disconnected in a couple of places on the west end, but once you know how to connect the dots, its not bad.
My commute is 15 miles too. Mostly on bike trails. The single speed rocks, except when the wind is in my face. Then, it just hurts.

Bikes: $15 Craigslist find (hybrid)- a bit rusty butit works! & police auction road bike -got be through 4 Tri's so far
I'm a newbie - a week and a half into the bike commute - riding ~ 3miles to the closest subway the then train it the rest of the way - all is going well, even managed to avoid the rain the last two nights - even though I had rain gear w/ me and lights.
Today, running late to begin w/ - 3 blocks/ at 1st light noticed that my rear rack was wobbly - pull to sidewalk - missing screw and nut - ok have a plastic zip tiein my bag (the safety pin of hardware)
Another mile or so in - my pant legs slips out of the ankle band and gets caught on the front gear, catches on/ rips the hem. Pull over, fix ankle band.
Block from subway, avoiding parked car w/ door open, car passes on left a little close to comfort
Still managed to make to the train in 21:11 minutes (about the average time I rode last week) and overall only 15 minutes latefor work!

Hey! New to the forum, up in Canada.
I started with a mountain bike this season (converted to slicks) and was averaging around 25 minutes each way.
I bought a new roadie about a month ago or so and shaved off a LOT of time! I am now around 18 minutes each way! I did a round trip - just over 9 miles (15 kms) - in less than 37 minutes yesterday!
Loving the new road bike!!!
Oh yeah, forgot to mention... the road bike actually gets me to work faster than when I take the car!! Traffic is a bugger.
Happy riding,
Derrick.

The ride home almost didn't get started. I guess I picked up something in my rear tire on the way in; I noticed the tire pick something up and fling it off and told my self to check it when I got to work. I forgot about it and found it flat when I was about to leave. I decided to try and pump it up thinking it must be a slow leak, it worked. It was a pinhole which I patched when I got home but still replaced both tube and tire with a new one. Ride was OK otherwise.

Um...it was interesting, I guess. Seeing one horse erection is somewhat normal, but two? Two? Did I need to see that?
And, yes. I did have to share.
