Commute home yesterday was a B****

Was on my Steel MTB, and had PAIN oh yeah, nothing like it ever before had i Had! Was worse than after a metric century on the road bike, and my commute is only like 8km! From my butt, through the quads, the back of the knees, and my shins were all screaming. Not the first time I've had pain......only since ive started using the road bike for commuting some days. I just cant handle the pain on the MTB now! OWWW!!

I took a different, longer commute path home. And, ChrisL, it barely touched 80 degrees today!!! And the winds were from the ENE ... what's with that? I had a strong 3/4 headwind as a result. It's not supposed to be this way, dang it. (The sea breeze should come from the north.)

Nevertheless, it was a nice ride home with a welcome change of scenery.

Lovely ride in this morning -- bright sunshine, a bit of cloud, chilly enough to get the cheeks red and cause the tops of the ears to tingle.

There also was what I call the invisible wind. With our cold mornings, there is a shift of air down the Derwent Valley (it often has a fog affectionately known as the Bridewater Jerry). The air movement is not enough to flutter the leaves on the trees (or those that are left anyway), but you definitely feel it when riding into it.

Took the roadie Merida after a good weekend of distance riding. The legs felt surprisingly good.

Relatively cool morning by our standards - 10 deg C. I think it hit about 20 while I was at work, so it wasn't a particularly warm day. I'm wondering why it can't stay like this?

Had a good ride in this morning, after 4 days off for a canoe trip down the Mattawa River. Wednesday night I set my new record, as I was leaving for the trip as soon as I got home, and was really pumped.

Looks like tonite will be a hot one, as will the rest of the week according to the forecast. Oh well!

Cool morning here in VA, but not raining... Added a few miles just to avoid getting to the office. Weather forecast shows mostly sunny through Thursday, and it's going to get a little warmer. I might get 4 days in this week! Yipee!!!

I left the house this morning just after the rain stopped, the roads were as wet as if it were still raining, fenders are a good thing. There was no wind and a temp of 60 degrees F, I had a good ride in, it took me 56 minutes. The weather is forcasted as nice for the next few days here so I should be on the road bike, That will spice up my rides.

Hard ride in as recovering from my century at the weekend.

And it's windy!

tchazzard 06-23-03 07:56 AM

Left at 6:45am. No rain, but the roads were still set from all the rain last night. Only a light wind and light traffic. Sun is now out and looking forward to a sunny ride home.

The weather was great for commuting this morning. About 65 F and sunny. I like the cool morning rides. This afternoon it will be about 90 when I ride home.

brennser 06-23-03 08:23 AM

gorgeous ride in - 70 degrees, light wind - just perfect - forecast is good for the rest of the week as well - yay

took the long way in. Nice cool morning. I was hardly sweating when I got' to work. Traffic seemed a little heavier than usual. I rode a little faster than usual too. Must be that I put the Aero-bars back on over the weekend.

Today has been a really REALLY pretty day thus far. While the commute is far from over (I get to go watch my friend buy herbal PMS pills for his girlfriend, which I'm VERY MUCH looking forward to) it's looking like it'll be really nice today. The sun isn't too bright, and everything is basically, well, nice. Plus I'm not riding on siezed hubs! I love having hubs that actually work! -Ian

Rode home for to have lunch with my daughters...so will make for a 36 mile day. Glad the sun is out.

You said it, bro!

Continuing the trend from last week, today was overcast and cooler. Little wind, which was a blessing. I switched to clipless for the first time ever over the weekend and did some really long rides to get used to them. Love the pedals but was beat today. At one point on the rail trail two pairs of senior citizens were biking ahead of me completly blocking the path. I rang my bell and no movement. I then verbally signaled and still no acknowledgement. I just rode on the shoulder around the first guy who moved over as his buddy pointed out to him that there was someone behind him. Then as I approached the 2nd pair the exact same thing happened. Very frustrating.

I have to say I am approaching the views of those who refuse to ride the trails. I love them when they are empty but there are so many people who refuse to use them responsibly. Getting the bell helped a lot, but not for the hard of hearing and headphone wearers :(

It really is a strange feeling to se the sun while riding. Since April, we have had very few days that were not overcast, and rain was typical.

Of course, this is Washington, and the sun that seems so welcome now will turn into a 100 F / 40 C fireball before long. For the time being, though, it is great -- and this weather is supposed to hold for at least another week.

Another beatiful winter ride this morning. About 11 deg C at 7.10 am when i left. I'm sure it warmed up during the ride. Now if I could just get it to rain again. I gave my bike a clean last night, so that should work, shouldn't it?

Maybe you need one of these badboys http://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...ype=&estoreid= :fun: 115dB should get your point across :)

Are you on the Sammamish River Trail ? I rode that a few weekends back on a warm sunny day. Most users seemed really considerate and aware, but I didn't think much of the few cyclists who I came head to head with halfway through their blind bend overtaking manouvers :fight:

mrfix 06-24-03 04:53 AM

The air is heavy with dense fog this morning, my commute took 58 minutes, all in all it was a pleasant ride.

Ed Holland 06-24-03 05:45 AM

Hi Folks,

Had a great ride in to work this morning, really storming along. The weather is nice here - bright and sunny. Only problem... I couldn't keep on going.

Cheers,

Ed

Well, an interesting late evening commute through Surfers tonight. After work I rode to visit a friend living up in Labrador, meaning I basically did my commute twice today. Anyway, riding through Surfers not half an hour ago, some lunatic yelled something totally incoherent out a car window. As I always do in these situations, I just ignored it (I was pretty zoned out with that headwind anyway) - which is probably just as well. I noticed he was carrying a baseball bat. Suffice to say I was pretty watchful for the remainder of the ride home.

Same up here Ed, and I think the tailwind from this orning is shifting, so I might get a push home!!

Nice commute this morning. 60F, 100% humidity, a bit foggy, and the sun was starting to burn through, throwing an orange cast on everything. Got a slow leak in the front tire somewhere along the way; it was flat when I arrived. Guess it's time to replace that front tire. I switched out the rear, but I thought the front was okay. That was two flats ago. :)

ZackJones 06-24-03 06:22 AM

Yesterday on the ride home I broke a spoke on my rear wheel :( Last night I took the wheels apart and will be taking them to the LBS to be rebuild with heavier gauge spokes.

I took my commuting gear and pedals and installed them on the Fuji Ace I just built up for my daughter to ride and used it for the commute. This bike rides great! It's a steel frame where my K2 is AL and I did notice a good bit of difference between the way it rode and the way my K2 rides.

I may just pull the components off of my K2 and use them to build the Lemond Nevada City I bought recently....

Zack
