Had a great commute. Construction in one area forced my off the bike but I still made it across before the red. That same construction has redirected the cars into what are usually the oncoming lanes so I have the equivelant of a giant 2 lane bike lane (construction activity doesn't start until I am past usually). I have been using a route that is a mile longer but has much better riding conditions. I find it much more enjoyable.

The wind this morning was gusty and from the wrong direction, which bodes ill for our fuel-choked Sierras, and made for a hard ride in. Still made good time, though. Heart rate was over 170 for a good portion of the ride since we were really pushing it and I'm feeling it in my legs just sitting at my desk. But it's a great feeling to have a hard workout out of the way.

Sacramento is hosting the world agricultural expo this week and everybody was worried about downtown being totally shut down by demonstrators. But so far it's been pretty mellow and it hasn't lived up to the hype. Best of all, since they banned street parking on L Street along Capitol Park, it's been a smooth ride through downtown into work.

Cool and overcast this morning but the blue sky out to the West has now moved in and it's turning into a beautiful day. Should be good for the rest of the week before going crappy again for the weekend - typical Seattle weather pattern that one

I think a bike mounted airhorn would scare me just as much ;)

Are you on the Sammamish River Trail ? I rode that a few weekends back on a warm sunny day. Most users seemed really considerate and aware, but I didn't think much of the few cyclists who I came head to head with halfway through their blind bend overtaking manouvers [/B]
Yeah, I'm on the SRT and in general the people are ok, but it depends on when you are on it and of course the weather conditions. I'm sure we all have experienced this, but walking couples, roller bladers, biking couples, jogging strollers etc all block the path pretty solidly. The other bikers I have no trouble with passing or being passed, especially if you know the places on the trail that you shouldn't pass. (and at this point I know every inch of it) In my mind the roller blading couple both wearing headphones is about the worst. But I'm just complaining here, I can do the street if I want, though I'd have to do a section of the Redmond-Woodinville road that I would not do during the morning rush-hour.

Tangled with a Toyota on my ride home yesterday evening. . .details for those interested: http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...threadid=30467

Although the rest of the trip was going quite well (good combination of effort/pace), that was hopefully my one and only experience of that sort. I was also irked when found that I forgot to stop the watch to account for my trip time. I had to estimate in order to log the saddle time in my records. What an inconvenience being hit by an auto can cause, LOL!

Last night on the way I home I tested my new 15W vista light glove on a night stick battery. Was brilliant until I ran out of juice half way down a hill with no overhead light not even the moon to help - that'll get the heart pumping every time.
This morning on the way in was a tad fresh - minimum about 0 C rising to about 1.2 C by the time I got to work. Looks like winter has finally arrived in Tassie.

2 mornings in a row the Tom turkey has been strutting his stuff to the hens. Sunny, pleasant ride in. Actually was summerlike on the way home, at last.

Well, I just knew it would be one of those days when the rain stopped just before my commute started (I really hate that!). So it proved, with basically every traffic light I hit being red. Still, it was a pleasant enough morning.

Commute home last night was another fast, short caning on the Merida roadie for the first time in a week. Almost no wind, and the lights cast by the Tasman Bridge on the flat-calm Derwent River were wonderful. The trip was made even better by the gridlock on to the bridge caused by a rear-end vehicle accident at the western entrance. Rode on the cycleway past the stationary cars nextdoor, up over the bridge and watched the flashing lights still at the scene from the other side of the river with a bit of a smile and chuckle.

This morning was a great one at the start -- very brisk, frost on the grass, but alas I had a front-wheel puncture that manifested itself right at the top of the bridge. I rode the remaining 2.5km into work on the flat tyre (carefully). I had a bike training course to deliver to Council employees and had to set up. The wind picked up during the morning, so our practical ride for the course was chilly despite the sunshine.

i think summer finally found mass, beatiful summer, clear, warm morning. I rode the bridgestone in today, some of the torn up roads are in the process of being paved. Great ride, nice day.

pinerider 06-25-03 05:41 AM

Beautiful rides in this week, mornings have been about , +19 66 F, Ride home have hot and humid at +32 C (90 F). Nice to have the pool to dive into when I get home.
Lots of wildlife lately, I missed a crazed squirrel on the Lakefront Trail this morning by a couple of millimetres. Yesterday raced a beach bunny, once it realized I was gaining, it darted off the trail into the dunes.

darrencope 06-25-03 05:50 AM

Had a great ride yesterday (personal best) despite the insanely hot and humid weather we're having here in Southern Ontario. Brutal...

This morning was another good ride in, and today promises to be even hotter than yesterday :(

Oh well...sure makes that cold shower feel good after my ride!

Makoa 06-25-03 05:54 AM

Three good commuting days in a row--pretty odd for Virginia this year. My legs are not used to it either as evidenced by the burning sensation on the longer hills. Rode my MTB (city tires) today to give legs a break, and took one of the longer routes in (~10 miles). Afternoons are heating up, and today looks to be in the 90s.

chewa 06-25-03 06:49 AM

Didn't commute today as I've got a University meeting tonight.

Typical- the weather is perfect maybe 70 degrees, no wind. AAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ridealot 06-25-03 07:26 AM

The ride in was great! Nice cool morning. To bad it won't last, there is a smog alert for today and the ride home will be miserable. Highs in the mid 90's is the forecast for this afternoon.

tchazzard 06-25-03 07:59 AM

A wonderful ride in today. I maxed out the pressure in my bike and trailer tires. It was 65 F and no wind.....fastest ride to work yet. Looking at 83 F temps and high humidity for the ride home.

cat 06-25-03 08:10 AM

Aaahhhhh...what a difference a day makes:

The past week: Strong headwinds, with temps in the 80s (F)...at 6:30 am. It was difficult going downhill!

Today: Calm and in the upper 60s. There was ALMOST a chill in the air:)

It was a bit hazy due to the large forest fire about 7 miles east of my house. With the winds dying down, today was the first day that I could smell the smoke when I left my house.

Paul L. 06-25-03 10:21 AM

Nice ride in. Took it easy as my legs were just not happy today. Think I will take a day off of the bike tomorrow.

AndrewP 06-25-03 10:27 AM

It was a nice ride in starting before 6.30 with a following wind, although I had to wait 15 mins for a ship to pass through the lock on the seaway. This afternoon it will be v hot 32C (90F) or more - this is one occasion that I welcome a headwind as it will help with the cooling. I will keep checking my HRM to ensure that I dont exert too hard.

tchazzard 06-25-03 11:11 AM

Everyone who is experiencing this heat wave in the US should be make sure they do not over do it and drink lots of water. I pushed a tad too hard and blew off drinking water on my way home at noon yesterday. I started feeling dizzy in the last mile and my legs were all wobbly when I dismounted. This was the closest I have ever come to passing out while biking.

Andy Dreisch 06-25-03 11:24 AM

I actually was warm when I commuted in today. I'm looking so forward to zooming home in mid-90s heat!!! Apparently this will last only a couple days so I'm going to enjoy it while it lasts.

caloso 06-25-03 12:17 PM

Perfect temperature this morning but it's going to break triple digits (F, of course) this afternoon.

Never seen so many rabbits on the bike path before today. And then there was the squirrel that came within an inch of my front wheel. The rodents are on a rampage! :)

Kodama 06-25-03 01:46 PM

Great day today, clear blue skys, warm but not too warm, and little to no wind. OK traffic on the trail as well. May have to add in a little lunch ride today...

And I am going to enjoy it when it cools down! :D

Jean Beetham Smith 06-25-03 07:56 PM

First day with high humidity and hot, so I loafed on my rides today. Even so my head was under the faucet when I got to work. It was so nice not having mud in my cleats. Summer rules.
