My seat post came loose and the seat came down very low while riding. It happened within a few minutes of my arriving at work, so I just decided to ride it out and fix it at the office. Big mistake, the strain on my legs was 3 times as much as when I have the seat up to it's usual height. The weather was perfect though, overcast and cool.

Another shorts 'n' mittens day today, but traffic was smooth and my lights were working fine.

Funny, this happend to me on the way home yesterday. I could use a nice stainless allen bolt to replace the rusting hex bolt, I think.

Drove in this morning; I've crossed the threshold and it feels weird to drive now. Too bad winter's coming and I'm a sissy.

Didn't ride this morning; legs a little too tired and sore. Should have stretched last night; knew better.

Last's night's right was a slogfest; felt like I was dragging a boat anchor. About 2/3rds of the way I pumped up my tires to 100psi; seemed to help a little. Some yokel tried to scare me by yelling out his car window; guess he didn't realize that I ride about thirty feet from the train tracks and hear the train whistle as it passes by.

May ride tomorrow morning (not commuting, just a fun ride) and try adjusting the seat height some; replaced the old saddle with a Brooks B-17 and didn't adjust the height. Maybe that'll work.

I decided to drive today and into the near future due to my alergies.

The past couple of days have been murder on me with my eyes. I feel like I just want to scratch them out of my face. Today I feel a little better since I drove with the recirculating air.

I normally drive on Fridays but decided last night that since the weather around here is unbelievable gorgeous, I would take the bike. Great decision. Temp was 56 when I left, clear, no wind to speak of, light traffic, and to top it all off I made 11 of 14 lights green. Did a personal best. 12 miles in 43:30. For me that is outstanding. Maybe I should do Fridays more often!! Have a great weekend all!!

Checked the temperature, dressed appropriately and stepped outside. Turns out it had just rained, which changed my clothing strategy entirely. I hummed and hawed but decided to go with the rain gear as it was cold and any spray from the road would freeze me to the bone. Glad i did as the rain resumed 1/2 way through the commute.

Edit: Forgot to add that i saw another commuter in Nisku! And on a rainy cold day nonetheless.

had a tough time keeping my cadence up. I kept falling back to 79-78. Weird because I felt strong and there was no traffic, slowdowns or headwinds. Maybe I was pushing a higher gear ...

A bike commuter I see regularly over the past 3 years, was not paying attention yesterday and nearly drifted into me on the MUP. But at the very last second he either saw me or finally heard me screaming at him and veered away. I only had an inch or two to spare from the tree on the right and he passed probably a foot to the left. I was making myself small - elbows and knees in!!

I should have posted this a couple days ago when it happened. I started a thread but feel a need to tell again it was sooo bizarre.

While coming through a fairly narrow canyon at 5 AM I came across a heard of what I later found out to be 72 horses coming at me! I thought it was a dream. They were spooked out of their pen by a lion or bear. Fortunately they got off the highway shortly after they passed me because the carnage would have been awful had a semi come by.

Fast! And late, not until noon. Cutting out the out-and-back w/ 7 yr old to his school (at his speed) adds 2 mph to my average (according to the computer). I still went to school w/ him in the am, but I was walking, to guide his 3 yr old sister on her bike.

Went for a good 10 mile fitness ride this morning...68 degrees and windy. To be exact a 15 mph headwind...like riding up a brick freakin wall. But none the less it was a good ride. The commute to work was okay...I was running late.

I had my first commute from Sacramento to Davis and back today. It's about 15 miles each way, and took about an hour and a half. It was great, and except for some numb fingers and a chafed spot on my thigh (need new pants, apparently) I feel fine.

About 7 miles of the route is a bike path that goes along I-80 on a causeway across a nature preserve/flood-plain. It's kind of odd because there is only a concrete wall chain link separating the bike path from the freeway, but on the other side it's all marshy wilderness. We saw hundreds of bats teeming out from under the highway, flocks of Canada geese and white herons flying, lots of lizards and ground squireels, and a jack rabbit in the industrial area between the causeway and the main road from West Sacramento into Sacramento.

Yay for bike commuting!

Well stated elTwitcho... "taking away their bubble of anonymity." As a cyclist, driver, pedestrian etc, I openly share the space with others around.

However, as a cyclist, I do want to make others around me accountable for their actions while traveling. Thanks for your good reminder & word!

Interesting commute this morning!

I saw bike ninjas. There were two of them. Neither had any reflective clothing. One had a very faint amber rear blinky, but that's it. They didn't seem to be commuting, since they didn't have panniers or backpacks. They were weaving all over the road, riding in circles, yelling back and forth to each other...maybe playing some sort of game? It's very strange to see cyclists on my street at 0530, let alone bike ninjas!

Then, I got buzzed by a car. I could have reached out and smacked the guy's passenger side window.

I got to see a gorgeous early morning sky, and quite possibly the tiniest crescent moon I've ever seen. It was warm for this time of year, and a very easy ride.

apree - congratulations!

girljen: it wasn't just you. I saw about five people by 5am on my ride in this morning. Had a dummy in a car ask me for a light (his cig) while riding in. Seemed to be alot of drunks still out and about this morning...
Almost nailed another racoon! He and I saw each other as I came around a bend while I was sniffing to see which direction the skunk was/is. I was amused by the sound of his nails on concrete as he skittered off the path. And thankfully, no luck on the skunk!

I have decided that I hate paper routes. These cars don't pay attention, they zigzag down residential streets, they drive too fast (until they get to a house that needs a paper, then they stop suddenly), and they don't see me. So they can go pound sand.

I was pretty stoked to get on the busy street today. No residences, no newspapers. Sweet!

I got a bug in my eye on the way home. There is not enough room in one eyeball for a gnat and a contact lens. Icky!
