I had a nice commute into Davis today. I made good time even though my legs felt soooooo heavy. My boyfriend is pretty good at setting the pace so I can't slack off too much.

I was all jazzed about my ride home until I pulled my bike clothes out of my bag and they were still wet from the morning. Yep, I sweat that much. Ew. I think I figured out a place where I can hang my clothes up during the day so they'll dry out. Luckily I always wear little shorts under dresses, so I just wore my regular clothes instead of putting my wet ones back on. If any of you other Causeway Commuters saw a girl in a dress heading to Sacramento this evening, that was me!

I see a lot of commuters going in to Sac when I'm going to Davis, and vice versa. I probably saw 10-15 people today.

Way foggy today. First day in a long time I will ride in with my wife of my own free will. Several things factored in. The pavement on my favorite and safest route was ground down over the last couple of days and far too rough to ride a road bike on. It is very foggy I can barely see the light at the end of the driveway. I have to find a new route today. I used all my CO2 yesterday. OK I will quit whining. My wife is ready to go to work. I hate riding in a car anymore.

Me too. Waaay foggy this morning. I loved it. There was no universe outside of my beam of light! My "DeWalt" brand safety glasses kept fogging up and I couldn't keep them on. I felt naked without them!

No fog, but way too muggy...looked like it was going to pour all the way in but stayed dry so I had my rain gear on for nothing, but I have a feeling I may need it going home.

I overslept to the point that I should have driven. I decided I'd finish getting ready (pack a lunch, dry my hair, etc.) while the truck was warming up. I tried to start the truck....nothing. @#$%!!

So I grabbed my bike, put it on the big chain ring, and ran the Late to Work Time Trial Stage! It was nonstop, except for the stoplight at the busy intersection.

I finally had a chance to catch my breath at the red light. I was in the right through lane, and a minivan pulled up in the right turn lane. The (very cute!) driver rolled down his window and chatted me up until traffic cleared and he could turn. Still got it.

Mid 50sF, overcast, darkish, but dry. Saw the neighborhood siamese cat. Passed one dude, rode for a while, and passed a dudette. Not many people out this morning.

Caged it this morning with bike in tow for the commute home. Met a fellow commuter in the Locker room a the Y. He does a similar 19 mile distance to what I do but he starts out north and heads south where I start south and head north.

Cool dry fall weather. Didn't even break a sweat even though I put in my usual effort.

Last night when I was getting ready to do my 1-2hr ride in the park, I discovered a flat rear tire. I didn't have any spare tubes, so I tried to use a patch kit. Well I got the tire off, and the hole was big enough to fit my pinky through. Needless to say, no patch would hold it. I looked at the time, 8:30pm, local bike shop was closed. I drove to the nearest big box department store to see if they had any tubes. All they had was 26" or smaller. So basically I just accepted the 'epic fail' and had a few beers. Of course I ended up having to drive today, but I'll make sure to pick-up some inner tubes during lunch.

On last nights ride home I came accross a deer crossing the MUP along the river. Its not an unusual sight in Milwaukee but it is still kinda cool to see. This mornings ride in was great! Temp was 46 so two long sleeve shirts, but still just shorts. Got buzzed by a dump truck this morning, startled me a bit but whatever. Getting darker and darker in the morning but I bought a light to help me. I passed the 1000 mile milestone this week. Not bad since I only started doing this around mid June.

Back on the Bike today (missed Friday and yesterday for various reasons). I feel pretty sluggish today. Maybe it's the stress of having my kitchen destroyed (big scarry reno project)? Anyway, nice temps on the ride this morning. No complaints.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll end up with clipless pedals soon...

Nice ride in! One of the pair of scofflaws from last week came scooting around us. It was an easy catch and release. I even got "the Look" - twice! In response, I dialled it up to about 100W and cruised out ahead. I could hear a whole bunch of shifting going on behind me, but it was to no avail. I can't wait to do this to them on snow. Hee-hee!

FANTASTIC RIDE IN!!! Practicing better pre-ride hydration and man is it paying off! Rocked that **** today...

I had about a week and a half off the bike, for various logistical/parental/spousal reasons. Back on today, and the legs are a little cranky about it.

Just before my turn onto Wall Street, a black utility pickup was about to turn onto Water ahead of me, from my right. I saw him and slowed, he saw me and slowed, we had that moment of waiting--and then I said "thanks" (his window was open) and moved just as he decided I wasn't moving and pulled forward.

Grins on both sides, a shrug from him, and I slowed alongside when he stopped and said, "That's about the politest interchange I've ever had with a truck." We both took off in good moods when the light changed.

Nice foggy ride in. Threw my chain last night going home, right when I was shifting up to blast through a downhill green light. Had enough momentum to coast gracefully over to the sidewalk to put the chain back on and tweak the derailer limit screw at least.

Decent headwind, nice and fun to pedal against while cursing mother nature. Had some rather severe chainslip at one stoplight, though, slammed my knee into my handlebars. Gonna have to look into replacing the chainwheel, and probably the chain.

Just have to hold on until I save enough for the new bike.

I fixed my FD last night. The cable housing was busted were it meets the cable stope so it would work, but i could never adjust it properly. I just took the cable out, snipped the housing shorter and reinstalled... works (for now).... yay nice shifting for the commute this morning.

This really is the perfect weather time of year. Cool in the mornings, warm in the afternoons. Just loving it.

Hey PG... I can't imagine us having any better weather...mu under the saddle thermometer was reading 80F when I rolled into the shop today.

I love fall here.

Not bad, just started commuting this week though. Rode into a headwind this morning, then the wind shifted for my ride home. Nice huh?

No classes today due to Rosh Hashannah (Happy New Year!) but I rode out to get new shoes (basic nikes marked down $20 because they are decorated with jack-o-lanterns--fortunately for my wallet I have no taste) and a haircut. On the way home I was instructed to get out of the street by a helpful motorist. That's a first for me, after 6+ months of commuting in LA!

Oooohhhh. I broke my very first spoke on the way home. Didn't notice it until I got in the driveway. But... I had my personal best time for the 17.7 mile commute!!!! Called the bike shop and they don't think that they can fix it in one day. Crap. Tomorrow it is supposed to rain, but I was hoping to bike in again on Thursday. I'll drive 45 miles in my car to the shop in the next big town over if I have to. I can't stomach the idea of missing a ride in on a nice day. The saying below goes... I am so driven to bike in that I leave everything else in my life to the side. Not a good way to be. Not an intelligent way to be. I think that's a sign of OCD. I'll feel better if I get on my other bike and go for a ride around the neighborhood.

About halfway through my shift, I came down with the cold from hell. I got a ride home from coworker F. Thx, dude!

I am thinking of moving to davis...but I am afraid I can't afford to live there, but getting past that is it a far ride from sacramento or san francisco?

So now that I'm back in Missoula, I sort of miss my 15 mile summer commute. Now it's 3 miles one way, and only three days a week. Funny, when I was in Portland I missed how close everything was in Missoula. Grass is always greener, eh? I will get to repeat that comute this December though, so we'll see how fun that is. I'm sure I'll appreciate the short ride when it's snowing/raining/cold.

Oh, and drivers in this town are freaking space cadets.
