nice ride this morning. dark of course, 42 deg. no wind to speak of. and.... No Rain. weathermen sheesh. all hype about rain and no rain. so I'm watching this afternoon's weather... we might get lucky and miss it today. Tomorrow is another story though. Doesn't look promising for missing the rain. This is one big storm. Canada to the Gulf. wow.

It was Clean and Green. The city had run the street sweeper during the night so all the broken glass, car parts and dead armadillos were gone from my (the bike) lanes. And I caught all the green lights :thumb:.

Adventurous ride home, at least for Texas. Temperature of 35 F, winds of 23, gusting to 38 out of the NNW (which was fine because a good chunk of my commute is SSE ;- ) I got out of work just a little early because it also shows precipitation on the edge of town.
Considering the ride was dry, I was dressed just right in blue jeans, short sleeve shirt, long sleeve t-shirt & hoodie (with the hood up underneath my helmet), and warm gloves. If it had started to rain my yellow vinyl jacket and pants would have seen duty but I'm not sure how effective they would have been. Tomorrow, Wednesday, is the day I usually drive to work if I drive; I have an off-site meeting that I haven't quite worked out the logistics for (and I'll probably leave that for when the weather warms up a little; a mid-week break isn't the worst thing). I managed to ride last Wednesday, only because once a month the meeting is a breakfast meeting and was closer to my home than the office building I usually have to go to. |
it was good today - light rain, temp in the 40's, gear kept my dry & warm.

Wonderful! It has been nearly 3 weeks since My last commute (forgive me father). Started with weather and need to work late. Then I was on vacation thanks giving week but I took a few rides.
Went back to work and weather was cold, rain wind and Wife and kid were passing bugs I was trying not to get and limiting my exposure to the cold but eventually they gave me the crud on Wednesday. Toughed out work. The BUMMER was I picked up a new (to me) bike on Nov 23. Its a T700 Cannondale that needed some love. It took me a week to get it all sorted out to ride then the family started with the crud. Today was the first day I got to ride it to work. Weather gave me a break and it was in the 40's on the way in and 60's on the way home. Not even trying the new bike saved nearly a minute of my fastest run on my Hybrid I rode for the last 1,000 miles. I love my new bike!  Now I'm bummed because we have heavy rain in the forecast the next two days and it has already started raining. I'll be driving to work till Friday when it is suppose to clear. :( |
left late so had to do the streets ride in. The ride home along the river was nice.
passed a few cyclists in a row on the way home on the bike path. as I was about to pass the last one he saw me coming along and sped up and wouldn't let me pass him. We booked along at 20-22 mph for a few miles. Every time he'd slow down and I'd start to pass again he'd speed up. At one point I passed him after a traffic light where I go on the road for a stretch and he stayed on the path. I went right to the speed we were going before the light and he came powering by me again. It was kind of fun but I like when the other rider gives a little smile, wink, nod to let me know it's all in fun. This guy looked a little too serious about it. Eventually he turned off at H' Square but I managed to keep a nice strong pace all the way home and was thankful for the warm up. 47°F! Felt like a heat wave! |
Cool, dark, low wind, and the threatened rain never materialized.
I saw a blinky on a dark road, about 500' ahead of me, some guy on a black mountain bike (I think). I tried to catch up, but he must have ducked into a side street. Later on, I was taking a shortcut through a school parking lot that saves me a few blocks. I saw the same guy ahead of me. |
Ride home at 7PM = 71°F and 90% humidity.
Broke a nice sweat in shorts and summer SS shirt. I love winter in the South! |
Actually, just by reading the posts lately, the majority of people seem to find the cold weather invigorating and uplifting, JoeyBike.

The gravel roads were QUITE slippery this morning, the temps were around 33 and it was raining on top of ice on the roads. The car drivers were nervous as heck.
|
Balmy. :D 60F/15C at 5:00 AM. Wet pavement and windy, but what's not to like? It's a pretty fair jump from the 20F this past Monday morning which called for my basic winter kit.
This morning it was fingerless gloves, sleeveless T under my rain shell, and knickers (and it most CERTAINLY was warm enough for shorts--they're all packed away for the season at this point, though). The changeable weather this fall is turning me into a clothes-horse. |
Forgot my helmet, which has my headlight and blinky on it. On the plus side, I remembered my headlight battery.
|
Temps read 13-17F. The snow is still melting providing a few ice flows and what not.
Thus, I took the MTB to the light rail station to shorten the distance. |
Didn't commute today-too tired from last 2 days. Good thing though other wise I would have missed the call from my son of his commuting accident. He got nailed by a lady who ran a stop sign. Thankfully she was only going about 10 when she hit hiim. He is ok he says, just scratched up. After finding out about him, I then turned to the bike that I built him at Thanksgiving. He said the wheels are shot but the rest seemed to be ok.
He got the lady's insurance info which I told him to go to the doctor and get checked out even though he say's he's fine. You never know what is lurking underneath. Then he is taking the bike to a LBS to see if it is worth fixing or if he should just get another one. Wish him luck. |
60 degrees on the ride in. Too warm! This is December for cryin' out loud. I rode in a T-shirt and shorts. It felt bizarre.
|
Warm but wet, should be in the 60's this afternoon although, I'll have to dodge rain showers. Legs feel good but I've been battling either a mild head cold or allergies so my wind isn't great. My last post disapeared with a lost connection on Friday. It was wordy but went something like this:
1) another "all ride week" 2) new baby = tired 3) cooper's hawk hunting under 14th st. bridge 4) new tires are coming |
Forgot to juice up the light battery last night. Plugged it in for a few minutes this morning as I topped off the tires, wiped the chain, filled my water bottle. But it wasn't enough. It died as I pulled into work. I'll have to call my wife and see if she can either bring my charger or just swing by and pick me up when she gets the kids from preschool.
|
dark and wet.
I actually leave the charger at work so the light gets topped up during the am... |
1 deg F. and Dark

Started out wet roads and freezing rain. When I hit the trails the rain stop and it was just wet. Still a great ride!!

Put on full rain gear to get home this PM. 49°F, wind/rain in my face, 3 mile visibility. Tall buildings downtown were half in the clouds. An OK ride as I can scram from work on Weds at 4PM and have some daylight - barely. Beats the rush hour too. I bet it has been nearly a year since I wore rain pants. No complaints. Happy to not have 1° to endure, although I bet some of you NearCanadians dig that stuff. I would love to get my Pugsley up there to play in the snow. Cheers All! |

27*F and 20mph wind. new winter clothes passed the test. :thumb:
|
Weird. No wind and sort of warm in the high 40s. Somehow I was hauling arse the way home on my slow MTB. That was a nice final commute for this week.
I have to travel to a specialist in the middle of the day and can not take the day off. So I drive tomorrow. |
tough to gauge the weather and what to wear. Suddenly it was spring time in Boston. Very windy at times. Warm and wet. had to stop to strip down at a certain point- too many clothes!
Otherwise a lovely commute. |
