Awesome.
Just warm enough not to need a jacket just base layer mid weight tights and a Jersey. Still on vacation but needed to burn off some of the good food I have been eating. Did a 44 mile loop this afternoon on the Silver Comet. Its so nice not to have to deal with cagers and just ride. I need to get on my work computer tomorrow to check some stuff so I will ride in for a few minutes. |
Not so good.
I didn't ride my bicycle. On the 23rd I rode the motorcycle and I was hit by a truck that ran a red light at 35 mph. Luckily all that happened was my hand was crushed! I probably won't regain use of it, but I am alive! I am home now and things are ok, even though I had to get an attorney because the jerk is lying, saying he had a green light! Only pedal power from now on....after I recover from the surgeries. |
Dark as always. Kinda windy but just enough to make it challenging. Why is it I never get tailwinds? Quite ride in. I got chased by two chihuahuas but they hardly posed enough of a threat to wake me out of my zen. Nothing to report.

That's it, I'm wiped out. I've done 53.6 miles in 4 days. Tomorrow (tonight for you daytime dwellers) is definitely a rest day.
The ride home was gusty and I was making stupid decisions due to my fatigue. And, ya know, the combination of headwinds and uphills really sucks. |
hoggster, glad to hear that you're mostly ok. I hope your hand recovers. Keep us posted.

AGGGHHHHH...it was a beautiful, windless, 32*F night last night...got the bike out, greased, oiled, tightened up things, got my gear ready for the morning....then
we go another foot of freaking snow! Right lane is plowed over, path is plowed over, slippery as hell, accidents all over the place...back on the trainer! |
HORRIBLE commute in. 35 degrees and overcast with a headwind for the entire 5 miles. Days like this make me wish I had a car :P
|
I had to get my truck inspected by today, but I didn't want to miss bike commuting on the last day of the year. So I dropped off my truck at the Ford dealer last night and rode my bike to work this morning. Will pick up my truck on the way home.
Another beautiful day in NC -- sunny and mild. However, a front is moving through the area during the day, and it's supposed to get very windy (40+ mph) and colder. A fitting way to end the year. Happy New Year's fellow commuters. |
Despite minor mechanical issues, one rude driver, and a headwind, it was lovely commute. Light snow flurries, clear roads, friendly FedEx driver who has waved twice this week. I have rode to work all three days this week, and felt great after getting here. Ah... now I need a nap. :D
I have the next two days off. Happy New Year y'all! |
Heavy fog again today. And wet. Yuck. I've got to get some rain/mist proofing. Fortunately my fenders arrived last night. I'll install them soon as I get home!
|
the wind made me work a bit harder this morning but i am glad to got to ride on the last day of the year
happy new year~ |
I decided to call it a year (okay, a month-and-a-half I've had my commuter bike) when the stars aligned on my ride home last night. I made the light which leads to the Metro station (normally wait a full minute there for the light to change); Metro train was waiting as I arrived on the platform so I had time to walk to the most ideal car at the head of the train (goes with next section); then arriving at my stop, since I had the closest train car to the elevator (see?) I got the elevator with no waiting (it's a looong elevator wait if you miss it due to the depth of the station) and home in record time door-to-door of about 45 minutes. Happy new year all, and safe, fun commuting in 2009.

I had a beautiful ride this morning. It was an unusually (for SoCal) foggy morning in Long Beach with visibility at just over 100 yards. The fog gradually burned off as I rode north up the Los Angeles river and by the time I got to work it was a brisk sunny morning.
I love riding in the fog on a MUP here. All the wussies stay home so I have it all to myself. The fog means no wind and it is so peaceful and quiet. I wouldn't want to ride in the fog in traffic. |

Today was better than yesterday since the crazy drivers seem to have stayed home for the time being. My super-flash bounced off the clip this morning and splattered all over the road. No cars behind me though, so I picked up the pieces, put it back together and nada. No more light. It's only two days old! I'm going to return it due to faulty clip (those things really don't hold well do they?). Hopefully it'll be another uneventful ride home, sans rain and wind, and leaving work a bit early so it can be liesurely...

one of the worst commutes of the winter today. had to ride the f/s mountain bike on 25 PSI due to the ****ty D.O.T. here. almost took off a mirror on a box truck with my bag as I pass between it and a car. Otherwise it was windy, cold, and took twice as long as normal. At least on the way home the sun was out shining on all the fresh snow. **** winter!!!!

weeeee! snooooow! :)

37F at noon with high winds and sunshine. Not too bad since I took the Bionx equipped cross bike with studded tires.
26F with high winds and high gusts - 9pm - I've brought a balaclava, silk base layer, and heavier gloves. I'm hoping that's enough. edit - Yep, the extra clothing was required. Not too bad overall, I'm glad I had the assist to counteract the wind. |
I had a good commute today.. I wore too much this morning and started sweating some coming in this morning.. but I can't complain. The ride home was nice.. I rode through downtown and by the river, had to detour due to police and city officials getting ready for new years events tonight.

Here on cape cod we had 6-7 inches of snow while at work. Forcasted 30-40mph winds with 50+ gusts with lake effect snow at quitting time. Once on the bike found the roads weren't so much plowed as compacted. Regular road tires, put it away lower gear & kept the back wheel moving.
Several plows went by on the other side of the road, pleased none came up behind me. It was a blast! Soon as I finish eating its back outside to shovel, the wife leaves for work at 5a.m. Happy New Year to all!! |
Chilly but not bad.

Awesome except my ride home was strangley challenging. I felt like I was really struggling to get a pace. I thought my tire was actually rubbing but I don't think it was. http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=498509

First commute of 2009 was OK.
Hardly any traffic out, which was nice. Two other things I noticed: 1. No matter how much a pain in the ass riding in snow is, it's WAY funner than riding in sideways rain. 2. My road bike is stupid fast compared to my 60 pound cruiser and mountain bike with spikes in the front tire. |
New Year's commute was great. No traffic to speak of, and clear blue skies. 40 degrees F. I am so glad it has been mild this year...hopefully it stays that way.
