Pleasant, mid 50'sF. I remember having a lot of anxiety about commuting when I started. I've crossed a bridge (actually the same bridge MANY times now), and I just enjoy the ride for what it is. I feel great.

temp's are climbing. 82 deg yesterday. 68 this morning at 5:30. I will get used to it but whew it's steamy. even my gloves are soaked. speaking of which... anyone have a solution for gooey hands on a ride? washed the gloves but my hands/fingers are still sweating and sticking. yuck.

I took a BIG tumble this morning. I was on the Kelly Drive path and there's a big regatta going on. Lots of people, support vehicles, boats, TV crews etc. There was a metal speed bump (the kind that protects big heavy TV cables from being run over) and I decided to go around it instead of over it (I was traveling around 14 mph). Bad move. My wheels slipped on the cables (they were wet) and the bike went out from under me. I slammed into the ground (at least I know now that the SPD pedals actually do release quite well upon impact) and tumbled. In mid-tumble I did some sort of a flip and landed on my feet, Jackie Chan-style. It must've been quite a scene. My only injury is a badly scraped elbow. The chain fell off my bike, but after resetting it and running through the gears, checking brakes, wheel true, etc. I saw that the bike was absolutely fine. The panniers absorbed the impact, protecting the bike. One of the panniers is an Arkel Commuter, which is designed to hold laptops. The laptop is also fine (obviously, since I'm typing on it right now). Anyway, nice way to start the morning...

Perfect weather this morning, and promises to be nice later. Actually passed by another commuter on Farefield Rd. A rare event, not that I was passed, but that there was another commuter. Lot of fair weather riders going for a ride in the afternoon now. Wish they would get the hang of the left/right side of the road thing.

Just rolled over 1000 mi for the year yesterday.

Went on the Airport Ride last night so I was pretty well knackered this morning. Weather is just about perfect except for the north wind.

Today was very nice , I gained almost five minutes on an one-hour ride this morning, felt good to ride in fair weather, windy and cloudy and sort of impredictable, nice and not too warm, still ride in shorts.I left my workplace early , at 13:00, to be home in time to do the groceries for the weekend, and the sky had some beautiful dark grey rainclouds, but I made it home without a spat .
That made a total of about 140 kilometres this week ,wednesday was my day off.
Next week wil be all about promoting the bicycle to ride to work in the city of Brussels,so I suppose there will be some interesting things going on , the least I can do is show the good example by riding my bike into town everyday.

Today's ride was great. Despite:

1) It was raining
2) A guy in a jacked pickup truck spewed a huge cloud of black smoke immediately after passing (this was a new one; i'll give him points for creativity)
3) I got yelled at (couldn't hear what was said)
4) Some clueless cager followed me (at 25mph) for at least a mile on a road with a 45mph speed limit (this means 50-55mph traffic speed), despite multiple opportunities to pass and me waving him past. A huge line of cars developed, likely causing:
5) Some guy yelled at me to pull over.

But I had a 10mph tailwind! wheeeeeeeeeee

I got one down the throat and one up the nose yesterday. I was was a 3 pack a day smoker all fancied out on a tour bike for everyone I past after that. Thank god it was the last quarter mile.

Very lite traffic heading to work today. A little drizzle going down the hill by the canal. You could really feel a temperture change in the valley. The short stretch of Granger Rd going home today was crazy as always, but picking up the canal trail the rest of the way home keeps me happy. I have all next week off and am looking forward to Cleveland bicycle week. I'm going to try to make all the events I can. Should be alot of fun. Hope the weather is good.

I was told, "Get on the sidewalk!" by a male passenger in a sport coupe. It didn't bother me, but I wish I had a portable loudspeaker so I could've said, "I'm not walking!" He must be new in town... Anyway, the weather was fine. I think I can put the balaclava away until October. I took the long way home (6 miles) just for a little more excercise. The full moon shining on Vineyard Sound, and the sound of ocean waves hitting the shore made it all worth it.

First commute of 2009 was Thursday, and I also rode Friday. Let me tell you that the ride home at 11:00pm is.....dark! I am so thankful for halogen headlights, flashing taillights and most of all the helmet flasher. Most drivers are intimidated when they see the flasher.

Beautiful ride this am home from work. About 40 degrees and the sun shining over the Chugach. Had the Chester Creek Trail mostly to myself. Did see two moose last night on my ride to work.

I rode in the rain for the first time today. It wasn't raining when I left for work, it started near the end of my ride. My Nashbar rain jacket held up well, but the dang thing keeps the sweat in. The next chance I get, I'm buying a breathable one, probably from J&G.
I was too tired to take the long, flat way home, so I took the main drag, the one with the hills,

Fast. I matched my own fastest time, averaging 13.5 mph including traffic control devices. I need to learn slow again so I don't kill myself with heatstroke this summer.

Dark as always. Rode the Columbia Tourist in today. The weather is warm and lightly drizzling so it felt good. My old bike developed a couple of squeeks that I need to look into. Nothing to report.
