Paying for the tailwinds with a couple of headwinds. It's cooler this morning but 2C is still really nice cycling weather.

My commute this morning was excellent! I felt very strong. I have a 10-mile (16 km) commute, uphill all the way to work. I think a combination of factors worked towards this newfound strength. I couldn't even find the "hard uphill" stretches. It all felt easy.

- my condition is improving
- I changed my handlebars which gives me a better climbing position
- I changed my pedals so I used my SPD shoes
- no wind, whereas I've usually had a headwind

It's 51F (10.5C) and there's no real wind today. It's supposed to rain this afternoon, so I brought a rainjacket. No more avoiding cycling just because of a rain forecast!

It was a nice ride in, comfortable temp 38 F (3 C). I beat the rain in, and hopefully, I miss it when I go home. It's not supposed to get warm today 56 F (13 C), but it is getting to be an anomally, so I'll just ride it out and in shorts.

Took me a couple of kilometers to want to be on the bike this morning because of cold stinging rain driven by a good head wind. Hopefully the wind dosn't change directions during the day so it will be at my back on the way home. I am still wearing water resistant winter tights at 3 degrees Celsius but should be in shorts soon if the hot weather from the west gets here in the next day or so, (fingers crossed).

39F, headwind, man I felt slow. Another commuter caught me, this morning.

41F, neglected the gloves this morning, had cold hands. No wind today (compared to 25mph headwinds yesterday) Supposed to get to 60 today, should be a great ride home!

57º, sunny, no headwinds to speak of. Beat a girl on a Buddy 125 off the line, and kept pace with her for about half a block until a straightaway gave her the advantage. I think I'm too competitive to commute!

50F felt colder than 46F yesterday, cloudy clammy today vs sunny and glorious yesterday.

Haven't commuted by bike since last week Wed (took a mini vacation and then two days of rain). Anyway I consider this mornings weather (40f, sunny, little or no wind) to be absolutely perfect. Parts of my normal route are closed for construction so I had to add a couple of miles. Now the ride in is close to 16 miles, but I am not complaining.

So as I was standing at the open front door this morning, looking out at a rainy, windy day and on the verge of bagging the bike in favor of the car, my daughter came down the stairs and said "Man up Dad. It's earth Day!".

Now let me tell you, when your teenage daughter has to tell you to "man up" ... wow, that's all I needed! On went the bike clothes and I ended up bucking a headwind all the way to work. Rain was light though so I didn't get too wet. But even with the wind and rain it was a fine commute. I feel so manly!

I'll have a tough commute home this afternoon as a front is moving through the area with very high winds. Sustained winds are about 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph, and my commute will be mostly into the wind. It's my payback for yesterday when I had a nice tailwind all the way home. I almost took my singlespeed today, and I sure am glad that I decided not to. Pedaling uphill into the wind with only one speed is no fun.

14 miles into 20mph headwind. 4 miles of hail (first time for me). 8 miles of well-earned and beautiful tailwind. Low 50s for temp, so not too bad.

It was a beautiful blue sky commute through the redwoods this morning. It is in 80's, with more blue sky, for the run down the hill home................................Life is good

Got a flat on the way in - wasn't a puncture, tire pinched on a small divot on the road at 104th and CPW. I was surprised, am running on fully inflated 32's. Light drizzle on the way home. Still feels like spring isn't quite here yet, high 40's low 50's. Should be better by Friday.

Not a commute this morning so much as a lactate threshold test workout that happened to end at work.

I took a dutch oven (with piping hot dump cake) to work today on my trailer. Other than the trailer being somewhat bouncy, and attracting a few double-takes, it went well. Dump cake was a hit, too.

my front rim has finally worn down to it's seams! After years of riding this bike to work in all kinds of weather I've literally worn out the sidewall of my rim. There is probably well over 20,000 miles on this bike and on that rim. But I've never fatigued a rim in quite this way. My front brake was starting to grab at the rim where it was wearing the worst so I had to replace it today. I wanted to just buy a rim and do a rebuild but my schedule doesn't allow for the time.

Went to a bike shop and bought a replacement front wheel for a good price, strapped it onto the back of my milkcrate and rode into work. Locked the extra wheel to the bike until the end of the day when I transferred the rim strip, QR, tire and tube and off I went with the old one strapped to the back of the milkcrate.

Makes me realize that this bike, which I use literally every day in all kinds of weather, is in desperate need of a complete overhaul. It is truly amazing how much abuse I put my commuting bike through. Remarkable that it lasts as long as it does.

No commute for me the last two days. They are repaving my trail. Looking forward to it being open tomorrow.

- First day back in a couple of weeks due to travel.
- My huffing and puffing going up a small hill scared a mare and her pony. Typically they give me no notice at all.
- I crossed paths with two commuters going in the other direction. That's a first for me.
- Got to replace the battery in my planet bike HID light - it's only holding charge for about 20 minutes or so. That's going to be expensive.

Fantastic ride to work this morning after a brutal commute yesterday with headwinds topping 30 mph in gusts. It was a little chillier this morning (low 40s F) but felt warmer due to the relatively calm air. Rode my singlespeed for the first time in several weeks and made my best time since last fall, finishing my morning commuting about 3-1/2 minutes faster than usual. I have not been riding the SS much because I couldn't carry hardly any gear, making it hard to dress for cold mornings and warm afternoons. However, I received my new Acorn seatbag last week, and it has room to carry all of my tools, wallet, cell phone, lunch and spare clothes. Looks like I'll be riding the SS a lot more often this spring and summer.

Very nice this morning, 25*F, but it's supposed to hit 60*F+ today. Nice after rain the last 3 days, with stiff to brutal headwinds going home every day. Yesterday the winds were gusty at 35 MPH or so, and varied between headwind and from the side, with a cold rain thrown in blowing stinging (a bit of ice) stuff in my face.

The interesting bit is, I don't even think about it anymore. The weather just is what it is, I don't even think about "I should have driven the car" or whatever. Kind of weird in a way.

And I'm always having fun, even when I'm getting pelted by sleet with a headwind.

Overcast, low 40sF. Little bit of a crosswind blowing from the west. I'm suffering from a fatover. I ate 10 Hooters chicken wings for some reason (beer had something to do with it) last night, and felt like dirt this morning. A granny on a trike could have reeled me in. Or maybe not. I wound up behind a guy on a hybrid and we had an easy ride at 15-17MPH for about 3 miles.

Yesterdays' rain cleaned the air so well that I didn't smell car exhaust on the way in.

49F and sunny! Aside from hitting a nasty pothole right in front of my building (I was looking for traffic, not at the street), it was a nice ride. I don't think I did any damage to the bike, but I guess I'll find out on the ride home.
