Wet fall like day here in the northeast. Biked in light mist and some fallen leaves. I love the fall...beats the humidity and crazy tourists.

Nice morning today, pretty warm, with higher than average temps predicted for the next few days. I'm on my detour route now as the normal crossroad I take is closed for a month. I prefer this route anyway and it only adds a mile, so it's cool. A bit tired after 3 days off, but such a nice morning, I really could have ridden more...

Rain Rain and drenching rain here by NYC. It poured practically all day yesterday and this morning. Sometime midmorning to midafternoon it settled into a light drizzle/mist but this morning's ride to work was very wet and cool. Highs only hit the low 60s which is colder than normal...

I took mostly roads today cause the trails were/are wet.

A tough ride in and back today after a week's vacation of no serious riding and lotsa beer. I rode 65 km yesterday to work (went the long way) and brought my truck back closer to home so I wouldn't have to do the whole trip this morning.

Temps were comfortable, rode the MTB commuter for a change, but seems to be bearing/cone adjustment problems at the back wheel that made the trip home a little tougher than usual. Also I was a little more reflective than usual - Lots of orange paint marks on the road where a cyclist was walking his bike across the road last week and was hit and killed by a large truck where the bike path ends at the lift bridge. It's a place where I've had a few anxious moments - My rear blinkie used to fall off in the middle of the road, when I'd jump the curb from the bike trail to the road. I'd have to run back and pick it up before it got squashed by traffic. It's held on with duct tape now.

Though it turned out to be a pretty warm day here (I heard someone say 100F but I don't believe it), this morning was cool and perfect. We had a fat, round, orange sun hovering over the horizon to light our way. Beautiful.

Nice morning ride in, it's forcasted to be a wet one on the way home. I had a tough time seeing my way this morning, My nightrider charger had to be sent back for repair, I had to use the backup cateye headlight, It's not very bright, I had to ride at a slower speed in order to see well enough to avoid the junk on the roadside.

I just got back from a long weekend on Ocracoke Island, NC, where my transportation was a single speed beach cruiser pulling a child trailer with my daughter inside and three beach chairs, two umbrellas, towels, and camera gear bungied on. It actually went fairly fast, but took a long time to build up speed.

Consequently, my commute rides have seemed amazingly quick.

My new routine involves walking my daughter to her school bus stop, then riding on to work. The ride was fine, except I had to stop part way to put on my rain gear.

Long ride in today. First time on longer route in about two weeks. I included the hill climb as well. I'm training for a century in late September so have to build up the miles!!

70 degrees (or thereabouts) this morning! No wind, decent traffic all made fore a nice ride. Oddly high temps for this time of year, but often Sep. is a great month in the PNW. What with the earlier sunset it's not staying so hot at night so I can really appreciate the nice weather now. If only this wasn't the busy time at work :(

My incredible luck for this summer finally ended. I bet you all can answer my trick question, when is a safety pin not safe? Right, when it gets imbedded in your tire in the middle of a hard, fast, left turn on a busy street. Why is it that when I do get flats it is always just as the mosquitos are coming out and the light is fading? Well, on the bright side, it was easy to find the hole. Otherwise, today was a lot nicer riding than yesterday, cool & dry, very autumn feeling.

A Gold Coast commute must be the only place where you can spend virtually all of the ride between 35 and 40 km/h and still only come up with an average speed of 30.68km/h. I don't normally watch my average speed when commuting (or any other time), but I decided to ride a bit harder this morning, mainly because I was running a little late, and got curious.

I too saw the red sun this morning and yesterday morning as we started out to work. It was a very smokey sky, from two bad fires. One is over 50,000 acres in Central Oregon, and the other started yesterday in the Columbia Gorge. It closed Highway 84 from Eastern Oregon to Portland, burned at least one home, one barn and one Bread & Breakfast establishment. So while the red sun in the morning here is beautiful, it was caused by some disastrous fires. The fire in Eastern Oregon is still burning, and when we saw it a week ago Sunday, it was at about 35,000 acres. My wife and I had climbed the South Sister, and viewed the fires between the North and Middle Sister mountains. The smoke covered most of Central Oregon northeast of the fires at that time. It was so thick north of Madras, Oregon that it blotted out the setting sun as we drove down into the Deschutes River Gorge on our way home to Beaverton on Highway 26. Now, a change in the wind has brought the B & B Complex fires' smoke to the Portland area. I've included a photograph I took off the top of the north rim of the South Sister so you can see what's going on out here. I feel for ChrisL and those other cyclists and people in Australia last year who talked about their fires.

I had several good commutes recently, but those two days after coming back off the mountain were tough. My thighs did now want to work:(

Today, I had a very good commute, and went to church after to attend a potluck dinner and choir practice thereafter.

It is warm, but not really uncomfortable for cycling here. We'll enjoy it while we can.

Commuted to my girl's field hockey game last evening. Her team was visiting another high school in the area so I got to go on a slightly different route.

Decided to take a break from the bike this morning. Very heavy rain here on the southern coast of Maine. Sun is supposed to be back tomorrow. Yahooo!

I rode my bike afterwork to a friend in Little Falls, NJ, which means I had to cross Rt 80 and Rt 46 on a road. Anybody from this area knows how much a traffic jam it is but there's a street that goes under Rt 80 and over Rt 46.. So I basically take this road over.. Once over there's a cop directing everybody over to Rt 46. Now Rt 46 is a madhouse of a 3 laned highway in which no way I was going to bike on. So I talk to the cop and it's a gas leak. They had a firetruck and the local gas companie there. The cop and a fireman suggest that I could cut through this razed lot and that there is a road about 50 yards west of here. So I do that, the "road" they talk about is actually a part of the old Morris Canal:

Anyway, glad I commute on my MTB so I go the 50 yards til I pass the closed section. After I left my friend's house after dinner, it's about 8;30pm and the detour is still on so I basically go the opposite way. Cross Rt 46/80 and then take the backroads to where I work. From there it's simply the water liine trail to an abandoned RR trail home with my 20w flood light blazing... Saw a couple cats and unidentified shadows but it reminded me how much fun it is to Mtn bike at night... I think I scared some little leagures after they saw me coming out of the woods with my bike lights on and reflectors and LED lights!

This morning was like the first time this week it didn't rain on the way to work...

First commute to the new job today. Very fast and 90% downhill for about 14 miles. The ride in was enjoyable although the streets are a bit more bumpy than my previous commute (still no potholes :)). I'll report how the ride home is tomorrow.

Really nice ride in today (especially as morning errands conspired to make me drive yesterday) temps still up, wind still down. Really enjoying the extra mile the detour route puts me on. When I bike home I've been going my usual route up the closed road. Good fun having a 2 lane road to ones self.

I actually passed my boss on my commute last evening. Well, he was stuck in traffic, but that was no problem for me on my spanky little bike! I'm just wondering what to say to him on Monday morning.

P.S. those are beatiful mountains John! Bit of a shame about the fires.

i cant commute i think is too far from my home!! one way is 38 miles

Maybe you could consider putting the bike in the car and riding part of it? I know others here have done that.
