WHAHOOEEE!!! Is it windy today! Still it's great to see the sunshine and this was the first morning commute that I could wear shorts and short sleeves this year! Great ride in, I wanted to keep going. Well, I'll do a river ride on my lunch break and take the long way home tonight. I'm ready for summer!
|
Windy here too! Gusts to 30MPH on the way in. Temperature around 50F so had tights and jacket on. (Normal morning commute attire) Today was the first day of riding with the SPD pedals and shoes. No problems. I have been practicing over the weekend cliping and uncliping. :D I am not sure if I am faster with clipless since the wind was such a factor this morning. I guess that will be seen over time. Just beat the rain coming in. Probably gonna have rain for the ride home too.
|
Yay! Just got a phone call that my replacement panniers are in. I'm picking them up this evening and can ride in tomorrow (assuming there's nothing wrong with this set!). This will be my fourth set of 2004 Trek Pannier 2 (2520 cu in.) since April. Trek redesigned them this year and I think I've been their unwitting test department!

1st commute after my 2 weeks off and it was heavily overcast with a bit of headwind. Comfortable temp, though I'm not sure what it was since my fancy computer with the thermometer died on tour. Weird to ride w/o the front panniers, I found my self over correcting and balance wrong for the first mile or so. Didn't miss all the weight though ;)

Cool and rainy. Heavy cloud deck that looked to threaten a downpour. Predicting rain all week. :(

14 C rain isn't what I'd classify as "warm" rain. You wait till December, when I start posting about 30 C rain! :D

Beautiful ride in this morning mid teens Centigrade at 7AM and clear skies. The training rides I'm doing for a Century charity ride are paying off on the commute. I'm averaging over 18mph for the 14 rt.

Nice ride in this morning. Traffic was light and the road was all mine. Going to be a humid day I arrived to work pretty sweaty. Temps were in the low 60's(F). High today could get to the low 90's.
Happy to be back riding again. |
Wow, it had been a long time since I biked when the temps were in the high 90's (98 was our high). The temperature along the river was not bad, but as soon as I left it and was back in the direct sun it was HOT. Anyway, I made it home just fine and I didn't melt.
There was a headwind (8 mph) this morning and the temp was around 60 - quite a contrast to yesterday afternoon. I noticed there were much more bikers out in the morning last week, I chalked it up to people starting their summer commute routine. This morning it seems the numbers are down, we'll have to see if they come back out. |
Low 40's (F) and rain this morning. Had a dump truck pulling a "pup" make a WAY CLOSE PASS on the way in. Gave him the finger. His buddy following in another dumptruck right behind him gave me plenty of room. I hope he told the first truck on the radio that I said HI!

Ride down this morning was awesome. Great temps (60F/15C) with a nice tail wind (I rarely ever get a tail wind here in the mornings :)). Sometimes I really feel sorry for all those poor schleps in their cars. They just don't know what their missing... :D |

It was toasty warm this morning at 7am. 70F/20C. It was way too hot to sleep last night and we don't have air conditioning. Fortunately, our basement was a tolerable temperature and I got some sleep there.
Just a few blocks from home and I'm riding down a street where a new building is being built (the road is open to all traffic) and both sides of the street are lined with the workers' pickups (with toppers) and other big vehicles. I'm riding down the middle of the street so I can be seen (hopefully). I'm about halfway down the block when I see a pickup with a worker who must be late (or he's got the donuts) turn from the perpendicular street onto my street and start traveling in the the same direction I am (away from me). Then he stops. Then he pulls into a driveway. At this point I am nearly right behind him. He is now in the phase two of his three point turn and backs into the street without looking. Were I a car he'd have hit me. He didn't even look. He just figured that when he turned onto the street that because he didn't (couldn't with all of the big trucks parked on the sides of the street) see anything that nobody was there. I was waving like mad and scowled at him to look more carefully next time. The rest of the ride was uneventful. |
Shorts and t-shirt weather this morning. Mostly overcast, but clear and 70(f) now. Lots of riders out today -- not crowding the trail but really a bunch of people out. Bodes poorly for this evening, have to take an alternative route home.
|
Heavy overcast & showers yesterday but back to Summer today! Blue sky & big fluffy white clouds. Today was "Motobecane" day at work, I rode my Grand Jubile & Brian came in later on his Grand Record. These classics looked great parked together. I only saw 1 other commuter today (not counting the 3 I work with). I guess we need several days of good weather to bring them back out.
|
Ah yes I decided to take my classic to work today. My fixie commuter is being refurbished so I took my 83 Nashbar touring/cross bike in. Started in the thick fog that shrouds my house every morning then off the road through tall grassy fields, open the farm gate take the dirt road to the woodsy bike path that goes rite to my office door. Of course dismount in classic cyclocross style :)
|
Rain, rain go away… come again another day. 2nd day I have not been ale to ride. Not so much the rain but all the lighting strikes is what is keeping me from riding. The good news is that it will be nice for the Fire Ant 100k charity ride (62miles) this weekend. :D
|
Well the ride home last night was slightly less wet than the ride into work was.
The ride in this morning was dry and cool. Had a headwind all the way in. Kind of felt tired. Just couldn't get my speed up to where I thought it should have been. Oh well. There is always the next ride. :D |
Rode past the LBS last night to get them to check out a creaking sounds. Seemed to be coming from the BB - they removed and re-lubed, said it could do with a bit more grease anyway. Creaking is still there. I'm wondering if it might be from the seatpost...
Ride in this morning was great. Great temps again, slight headwind to help keep me cool. The legs are a little bit tired this morning, but I'm sure will be fine by the afternoon. |
I encountered more cyclists today than I ever have before. There were three MTB's and a roadie.
The weather was nice, but I expected cold, due to the backside of my house staying cooler than ambient and a gust of cold when I released the hounds this morning for their, ahem, business. I told myself that I would take it easy, as I pushed it pretty hard last night. While taking it easy, I broke my 40-minute barrier for my 10.4m commute. That was rather surprising to me. The signals were approximately normal, with the same amount of stoppage. One of these days I have to get a cycle computer so I can actually see what my ride time is... |
Took an alternate route this morning that added 2 miles but made for a more leisurely spin into work.
We learned yesterday that the Capitol will be shut down on Friday for mourning Reagan's death. I'll gladly take the day off, but I wonder if the former Governor would have preferred that the Legislature get the Budget Bill hammered out. |

I had a slow ride in last night because my tires were below pressure and I too have a creaking sound coming from the bottom bracket area. It was annoying, and it was still there this morning for the commutte in to work, which was a warm morning, a little humid, not too much and with barely any wind. I really like to see the skies shortly after the sun has come up. I see some beautiful sunrises this way. As for the creaking, I am looking into a new set of pedals. Last time this happened, it was a creaking and clicking because I bought clipless pedals that were cheap enough for meto find out if I would like them or not. I like clipless, so for me, it is time to upgrade my pedals. |

Overcast cooler with a fairly vigorous headwind. The weather forecast I heard on the radio before leaving work informed me the wind would flip directions in the afternoon. Headwinds both ways Woo-Hoo!
