SLow ride in today because of recovery from yesterdays ride. Summer has been very mild so far. Still wish we would get some rain. Monsoons are late this year.

Rainy today with a bit of a wind. Still saw 5 other cyclists which kind of surprised me. Where were these folks in the fall and winter? After leaving the trail and hitting the road I was behind and then passed a tractor who was taking the lane. The diesel fumes inspired to me to put in a bit of extra effort to pass him.

Smokin ride in this morning, clear skys, 59 degrees and a touch of light fog. I rode the touring bike and averaged 18.9 miles an hour.
|
Rain showers on the way in. Nothing big just some drizzle most of the time. Windy though
|
Frustrating ride this morning. Wind was a little stiff. My cassette and chain are extremely worn too - the sooner my new parts arrive, the better. Weather looks like it's going to roll in. Heavy rain starting in the late afternoon apparently... looks like I'll be racing the clouds home.

Hey Greek Acrobat, another rider in Britain!
You are right about the wind this morning - it was the same here in Oxford. The first section of my ride involves a reasonable hill and today had a nice headwind for added excersise value... The rest of the rideturned out of the wind somewhat and one short section I had the weather behind me. Cruising along at 26+mph on the flat is just great - wish I could do it unassisted like the boys inthe TdF :) Cheers, Ed |
It is getting nicer each morning, temps were in the low to mid 60's this morning. There was a breeze, that came and went to keep things cool. Each day there is about another 1/4 mile of new pavement. There is something sweet about rolling on new pavement.

Cloudy this morning with temps in the mid 50s (F). Trying out a modified route to avoid the worst or the traffic.

Back up after a week's vacation...good to be back on the bike but sad to be back from the beach! NY was warm this morning and promises to be muggy tonight. The commute was OK but a big adjustment from the empty road I rode during the time off...
|
Cooler this morning and a good breeze to my back.
Late to work, as usual, but had a nice exchange of pleasantries at a stop light with a young woman on a hybrid. I noticed she was wearing a Livestrong band and I offered a little unsolicited advice about staying out of the door zone. I showed off by trackstanding the whole while. Then the light changed and I hammered the last mile to the office. I briefly imagined myself taking a turn at the front of the Blue Train during today's team TT. That'll get you to work on time.... |
Very pleasant this morning. I was sleepy after a late night last night (went out to a concert), and didn't really care too much about getting to work early. I watched the start of the tour coverage until about 745, then just meandered down to the office, not trying to break any records.
Had a breif chat with another cyclist doing the Tour de Work this morning while stopped at a light... the nicest fellow commuter I've met so far. |
I guess I'm antisocial. Tonight a cyclist passed me while I was climbing Moose Hill, but at the top of the hill he had slowed to my climbing pace and stayed there. I didn't want to play "pass me, I'll pass you" so I slowed and followed 2 bike lengths behind. He kept a slow pace across the top of the hill. Finally he upshifted as we approached the descent, but then he coasted down the hill, taking the lane. Now this is the hill that I use to get my spin up so I can crack 30 mph across the flat and carry it as far as I can up the next grade. Was he being a little obnoxious, was I wheel-sucking, how do you handle that sort of situation?

13 degrees C this morning, a cross-wind from the west with a slight northerly aspect to it. Not much else to say about it really. |
Back to work after a 4 day weekend. It was a bright sunny day in South Puget Sound but very windy all day. I made a quick recovery from my 4 finger jam a few weeks ago & today I was able to type my keyboard with both hands for the first time since the fall.
|
wet, soggy, foggy and windy, what a great ride. I was the only out this morning and I guess I'll have a repeat tonight on the way home.
|
Nice ride home last night. No rain and the tempature was not as high. Traffic was light and it looks like the street sweepers came through and swept up all the crap in the gutter.
Ride in this morning was really nice. Tempature was around 60(F). Made some good time coming in as I sort of pushed it a little this morning. Nice |
The rain that was going to hit last night wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting. Dry this morning too. Weather here is so subdued. Can't complain.
The wear on my cassette is getting worse by the day - I couldn't make it up the Big Hill today, first time ever. Got tomorrow off so those parts better get here before I leave. |
Dry and pleasent here this morning, but a good sized thunderstorm has just passed over us at work...
Cheers, Ed |
Had a nasty encounter with a driver on the way home yesterday. Nothing that remarkable but it left a bad taste in my mouth the whole evening. I think what upset me most wasn't the driver's actions (riding my wheel, honking her horn, flipping me off) but that I lost my cool. I allowed her ugliness to trigger my anger and I brought myself down to her level.
But today is a new day and I had a very pleasant ride in, making a big loop of the Pocket and the Sacramento River Trail. |
Pretty good commute today, nearly doubled my bike route (now up to a whopping 6 miles one-way! I'm excited.) by picking another train stop. Plus a detour for road construction. 17C, overcast, light sprinkle. Made it to to the train station in 36 minutes, and the only thing kind of bothersome was that I had to yell at a van driver who got confused by the detour and tried to back into me.
|
Heavily overcast and cool today, seemed to keep the pedestrians off the trail. However I saw 19 other cyclists, making for a round 20 including myself. I have to admit that I've been enjoying the cloudy cooler weather; keeps the crowds off the trail, you stay cooler and it's easier to sleep at night.

I have to tell you all about yesterday's commute.
I rode from work to the Kerry/Edwards rally in downtown Dayton's Riverscape. Thousands of people there, along with closed roads and police/security everywhere. Didn't have to worry about parking, rode right up to the event gates (I didn't have a ticket) but I was right there straddling my bike and watching the candidates speak. Since they were so far away they all looked so tiny but John Kerry's height, blue shirt/red tie and silver hair were unmistakable! There were TONS of bicycles there too, chained to everything imaginable! Even some of the Bush supporters rode bikes, too. Seems like some people are starting to get the message about how convenient bike are these days! |
Clear & 48F at 6AM, broken clouds & 70F at 3:30 PM; had a nice ride in but had to wear a long sleeve jersey to stay warm. Only a few other cyclists out today.
|
Lovely commute this morning, now that yesterday's humidity dropped big time. I'm using an alternate route (12.4 mile), about a mile longer but much less hilly, that avoids me arriving too sweaty.
Love the 6:10 am ride start because of the so much less traffic, but hate to wake up at 5:00 am !!! arrrrgggg!!!! Corsaire ;) |
Last night's commute was one of the wettest rides I can remember for a long while, and actually was rather enjoyable. The weather was extraordinary - apparently there were 4 inches of rain in the afternoon, and flash flooding caused traffic chaos in town. Riding on flooded roads was entertaining... Later, my wife and I took the bus into the city - the driver said that his service was running 1.5 hours late!
This morning was windy, but dry. Our summer weather is.... not very well sorted out at the moment :) Have a good weekend, Ed |
Ed, are you sure your not in Montana! Our weather is quite the same.
We tied a record low temperature yesterday! Cool ride in this morning. Back into tights and wind jacket. My legs feel tired today. Took it pretty easy. The winds of the past 2 days must have worked me harder than I had thought. It is nice to see the sun making an appearance again. |
