Today I drove a car to work.
I dropped by wife of at the airport and the only way to make it to work on time was to keep driving. (my wife wasn't keen on the idea of leaving 1hr earlier in the morning so I could then go home and cycle to work) Anyway we share one car, hence my normal cycle commuting. I feel more tired today and need coffee. When I cycle to work I crave juice, not coffee. Its strange to be behind a wheel after not driving for 10days straight. I didn't pass any cyclists. Al |
Kind of a rough ride in this morning, the weather and traffic were o.k., but my g.f. and I celebrated the end of Georgia's 6% alcohol limit for beers, last night at a popular brew-pub. Excellent trippels, barley wines and imperial stouts were sampled (as a homebrewer I can appreciate a tasty beverage), but this morning's ride in was wobbly. Warm and overcast on the return trip with traffic heavier than usual. Fortunately no altercations to report.

This morning's commute combined a 25 mile training ride on the bike trail. On the way out we noticed a woman standing directly in the middle of the path holding an empty milk jug. Figured she was probably waiting for her husband picking blackberries from the huge vines between the path and the river.
On the way back, at the same spot, there were 8 police and sheriff's cars. No cops visible and no sign of the woman. Weird. Was she attacked? Did she find a dead body? Such a mystery.... |

On another note, I passed a truck today -- and he wasn't even stuck in gridlock. Dropped him/it like a stone. Obligatory weather report, temperature range on the commute of 10-12 degrees C, amazing how it can gain two degrees in 20 minutes in the middle of "winter". |

It was 61F during my lunch commute home but the sun came out this afternoon & I rode home in 79F weather, lots of cyclists out & around town this afternoon. Spent the evening bringing my tractor & implements back home from across town & now I'm ready for a great Fourth of July.

I commuted about 3 times and found that it was too hard both ways. So yesterday I drove to work and cycled home. One small problem, I only brought 1 cycling shoe so I wore my tennies. I really like the ride into work much better. Already, they started to tear up my route with construction, so I had to make a 3 mile detour.

A bit breezy this morning. We had strong winds and heavy rain last night so there was a couple of large puddles to be avoided along with the fallen bits of trees. This is supposed to be Summer in the UK. More like autumn/winter.
|
Temps in the low 60s, no wind. I slept in a bit, so I ended up seeing some different people on the way in. It is going to be a wonderful day, might leave a little early and get a jump on the holiday weekend. Happy 4th to all here in the USA!!

Hard rain last night left me with deep puddles, wet roads and fog, traffic was heavy but seemed to be under control. The ride to work took me 1 hour 5 minutes, the fenders kept me dry and the bright tail lights and hi-vis jersey kept me seen. Teh skys are clearing so hopefully we'll have a nice ride home.

Windy, windy, windy again today - and there have been a few showers this afternoon. This morning's journey was hard work, there was one uphill section straight into the wind. That really knocks the speed off...
Have a good weekend folks, Ed |
I'm liking these warm mornings! Having to pick my way through road-kill lately. Seems to be a lot of squished critters on my route these day.
To all my U.S. commuter friends, Please have a fun and safe Independence Day holiday! Bob |
Chris L: now that I think about it, the milk jug was filled with BLOOD! :)
Today was cool and calm, an ideal day for an extended detour on the way to work, but also an ideal day for lying in bed. I chose the latter and had a leisurely spin to the office. As I was locking my bike to the rack, I had a nice chat with one of my senior attorneys. He lives out in the burbs but lately has been putting his old Schwinn Collegiate in his trunk, driving to Midtown, and riding the last couple of miles in to the office. He thanked me for giving him the idea that was saving him parking fees and getting him back into the fresh air. One more commuter! |
Overcast today, looking like it will be a classic PNW 4th of July weekend: cloudy with a good chance of rain ;) It was also pretty darn windy today which slowed things down a bit.
|
Early this morning I was awakened by a severe thunderstorm, with many lightening strikes close by, and the resulting fire sirens. By 5:30 when I got up the sky was clear but there were lots of big puddles. Fortunately, most people were taking the day off and the traffic was very light. Late in the afternoon another storm rolled through, but since I got stuck working late, it was over by the time I left, so both rides were puddly but fine. PS, the Tom turkeys are displaying again. 2nd clutches or just establishing territory?
|
Heavy overcast all day. 53F at 6AM, warming up to 67F by late afternoon. Finally saw lots of cyclists & commuters today, 20 or more. I saw several classics including an older Schwinn Paramount, a Stevenson (local builder), and a couple going the other way on beautiful touring bikes that looked very French but had no decals. Probably custom built.

Wet roads this morning. Too bad because my girlfriend gave me a B-17 saddle to spiff up my ride, and I really wanted to show it off to my coworkers! Didn't want to get it wet the first time out, though. Dry and cooler than is normal for Atlanta on the return trip.
|
Usual Friday morons last night. The funniest thing is all those dickheads who are trying to pick a fight with me, and I can laugh them all off because Surfers Paradise is always choked with gridlock on a Friday evening.
|
Took the day off from commuting yesterday so the old legs would be a little fresher for the Peachtree Road Race 10k I (and 55,000 others) ran this morning. I did ride a little on the bike path this afternoon to get the kinks out. We're leaving on vacation tomorrow, I'll be back to the commuting life July 16. Be safe everyone!
|
I had an awwwsome ride at 6.30am cool wet though not rainning, from Duncraig to Hillery's to city beach along the coast road, then to Wembley. {an hours ride,24km's}. Couln't get the :D off my dial after that.

Had some punk kid run out into the street and try to push me off my bike this morning. I saw him coming and took the appropriate evasive action. I was tempted to stop and hang one on him for a second, but thought better of it. I really don't need the hassle at this point, and if he keeps up that behaviour, Darwinism should take care of it soon enough. Still, I was remarkably calm in the gridlock on the Sundale Bridge this evening. No punk kids there of course (what are they afraid of? Death? Vapid *******.). Once again, despite it's best attempts, the whole commute is...

12.0 miles in 46 minutes, beautiful morning here in sunny Ireland!
(Trip was Donabate to Fairview, Dublin.) |
This morning's ride was a nice smooth run through the country lanes. Over the weekend I completed the rebuild of my other bike, but am so pleased with the new paint-work that I'm not ready to let her get dirty yet... I hope to post some pics this week.
Cheers, Ed |
I had to take my daughter to the children's clinic on the way to work so I had to go to work today on the train- I hated every minute of it and now I have to go back home on the train aaaargh

Ok ride in. Roads were damp from rain last night. Pretty warm and humid. The ride home will be a hot and sticky one with temps supposed to be in the 90's.
|
Nice ride, wet roads from night rain, sky has cleared and the rest of the ay looks great.
|
Temps in the upper 50s with calm wind. Another great morning ride in Colorado. The temps are supposed to reach a high in the 70's with no rain, it should be a very nice ride home this afternoon.
|
Low 70's and very humid here in Atlanta. First day back from vacation; I have been riding with my son during our vacation (11 yrs old) and we rode in together (me to work, him to stay with my wife at her work) for the first time today. I think he is doing great, especially since he just learned to ride in May!
|
After a rainy wash-out of a holiday weekend, the sun came out this morning. Was a "crisp" ride in. Trying actual "cycling" socks for the first time today. We'll see if there is a big difference compared to cotton.
|
My 11-mile commute from south Fort Collins to the University was fantastic this morning, as usual! (6 miles of road, 5 miles of bike trail.) And I got 115 miles in over the weekend, despite a number of small thunder storms.
