No biking for me today, had to attend a friend's father's funeral after I worked for about 3 hours. Back on the bike to work tomorrow.

Nice, clear, cool morning, I rode in on the old raleigh this morning, I took my time and relaxed on a recovery type ride after a high mileage weekend. I rode a century Saturday and another Sunday, I don't heal as quickly as I used to, the old age is getting to me.
|
Lovely clear sunny morning. However, I was a bit sluggish today, following completion of a 75 mile ride for charity yesterday. No real soreness to speak of, but climbing the hills definately showed up the tiredness in my legs!
Cheers, Ed |
Contrary to everyone else above, I felt OK this morning, despite 200km and 2,500 metres of climbing over the weekend. Guess it just wasn't enough to upset the applecart, maybe I'll do longer rides on weekends in future.

The most beautiful morning commute of the year! Got clocked at a speed trap going 10mph though....
|
What a difference it makes to leave the house with plenty of time to get to work. No sweating, no need to break (err, bend) any traffic laws, no problem. An absolutely gorgeous Sacramento morning. These are the days when I look at these folks in their cars and wonder why they haven't figured it out....

Gorgeous commute this morning. Clouds kept things shady and cooler for most of my commute. After Saturdays Ride the commute was a a little dull on the scenery. Makes me kinda wish I worked in tortilla flat. Anyway, the legs felt good today despite the 4000 ft of climbing on Saturday (they are used to around 2000 so that was a bit of a jump). Anyway, great commute.

80F and very humid… supposed to rain most of the week. This morning was a good ride in… I left the house late but made up the time on the way in. :D (huffin and puffin :o ) I'm starting to see some regular faces on my rout.

53F with light winds this morning. Took the weekend off of the bike due to other obligations. Just took it nice and easy. I almost stopped to take the wind jacket off.
Forecast for the week is mid 80sF and sunny. |
Back to hauling the trailer, as my daughter has started drama camp. My morning commute now last an hour and includes several steep hills. It is quite a workout -- but a pleasant one. One particularly good part is riding along the Three Mile Run bike trail in the silence of the early morning, watching and listening to the birds.

Great to be back on the bike this morning after some time out of town with work. Cool temps after more rain yesterday afternoon. I just spent a week in Elko, Nevada (and will spend many more there in the coming months) which has me strongly considering a folding bike to travel with so that I don't miss out on riding while on business trips. I almost always have the time (most on-site days are 6am-4pm), just don't have the bike!

Friday's commute was absolutely lovely in the morning, but Friday night we had an unpredicted downpour. And then, halfway home, already soaking wet just over the bridge and I roll through the remains of somebody's snapple bottle and get not one but two flats. Since I only ever have one spare tube with me, I had to walk to the subway, which was airconditioned and so very cold for poor wet me. Luckily I had a warm hoodie in my (thankfully waterproof) bag. So not so great. Today's has been good til now. We'll see what the evening brings.
|
Really nice morning today, clear and warm with a nice tailwind. However I just wasn't feeling all that great. Still enjoyed the ride, but wish I'd just stayed home.
|
Pretty busy with work & other duties the last 2 days. Commuting yesterday and today were similar: sticky and humid going in at 10 am, wet wet wet coming home at 7. Thank goodness I took my fenders off, we needed the rain. ;)
I would much rather ride home in the rain rather than the high 80's f with similar humidity it would be without the thundershowers. |
Another beautiful day for commuting. 59F at 6AM with just a little fog rising off the lake. Had a fast ride in on my Miyata & by lunchtime it was warming up nicely. I made the return from lunch trip on my Grand Jubile. It was 81F this afternoon but I still tried to do some yardwork when I got home. Knocked off for the day at 6PM. Tired, sweaty & looking forward to those cool evening breezes. Don

While at home for lunch I found that the mailman had dropped off a toy that I had won on ebay. I bought it for my 5 yo, but this Playmobil set of bicycle racers (#3849 ) would look nice on my desk so I stuffed the package in my unbuttoned shirt and rode off to work. Feel very much like a messenger I made it to work in good time!
I saved the box. The kid will get the toy for his birthday party. Meanwhile, I get to play with it during the Tour De France while at work. Temp today was about 83 and humidty was 60ish. |
Left the house in fairly hard rain, it cleared as I rode and turned out to be one of the most pleasant commutes this year, lots of wild life and not much traffic.
|
Nice ride in this morning. Woke up late and took my time coming in. Tempature was around 60(F). Supposed to be a nice week coming up.
|
What a great morning. Temps were in the upper 50's and the legs and lungs felt good all the way in. We had some severe rain on Sunday evening and there are still a couple of spots on the trail that have the "thin water mud". I've had a couple of bad experiences riding through that kind of mud, so I now walk around them.

It has rained here for the past 8 days. I nearly made it in all the way this morning before getting wet. Sweet. I decided to put my bike under the stairs of my building rather than leave it out in the rain again. So after showering at the gym I rode my bike over to my building. I felt like a kid again riding in jeans, no helmet and had my lunch bag in my left hand. Now to wait and see what the afternoon monsoons bring.

Ugh. It was 'one' of those mornings. I didn't get nearly enough sleep (around 3 hours) and on top of that I tired myself out very badly on my commute home yesterday. So this morning was less than 'great'. But, I made it just the same. I just wasn't as fun as usual. But now I'm ready for my lunch ride, and then my ride home. Hopefully it'll rain just so I can see what its like to ride in the rain ;)

First morning ride of the year in just shorts & jersey! Temp was 55F/13C. The sun was brilliant. I felt really good so pushed a bit harder that I normally would on the way to work. For the second time this year, I was almost hit by an Canadian goose flying over the road about 4'/1.2M off the ground. I have my 3 month doctor appointments tomorrow so I will be taking photos of my commute route to share with everyone.

I have a short commute, approx 1 mile. But today's was awesome.
Pulled up to the light closest to my house. Saw a coworker at the light in his nice fancy SUV. So he rolls down the window and I ask if he wants to race. He laughs and says that I'd probably beat him. He's just being nice because this is the only light between us and work, and there are no stop signs. But I accept the challenge anyway. (I know, it's my challenge and he didn't accept, but I did... :-) ) He beats me to the front gate, but cars must go about 1/4 mile out of their way to get to the parking lot in front of our building (we work in same building). I'm on a bike so I take a shortcut and stand up and start pedalin. He makes his last turn before the lot and he's in front of my by about 100 yards. We're 300 yards from the front door. I know I've got him beat cause he has to park and walk to the front door. But I keep pedalin anyway, and get to the front door at 25.5mph, and i get to the front door before he even shuts off his engine. Felt good. I guess I should have answered that thread about "Do you commute to save time?" differently, since I've found out today that I'm faster to my desk than my driving coworkers. |
My commute today was good. It was hot this morning about 21 degrees, now it is about 27 or so, not much wind. The biggest obstacle to overcome is the way some of the girls are dressed, they are distracting my ability to ride, I am spending more time staring than I am riding. It looks good for the rest of the week as well.

For a year I have been keeping an eye on this thread, hoping one day I would be able to contribute to it. Well that day is finally here. My very first commute by bike was fantastic. I couldn't have been blessed with better weather. I can't wait for the ride home and I am kicking myself wondering what took me so long to get to this point.
There are so many bike commuters in my area now, it was really cool to greet each person this morning with a smile and a "good morning". I guess it is a good thing I have nothing unusual to report. |

My second day of pulling a trailer to day camp and on to work. This time, I made it all the way to the top of a steep (about 200 feet in 1/4 mile) hill on Walter Reed. For the next week and a half, I will have a loaded one-way commute of one hour over the steepest hills in the area. Now, this is peanuts compared to what a lot of you do, but i=t is my intro to "hardcore commuting" -- a big step from my usual 10 mile round trip carrying only raingear and a lock.
Interestingly, I have more energy during the day as a result of my morning workout. (I also have a lot less energy come 9 pm or so.) I'll be pulling the trailer all summer, but after next week my daughter will do a different day camp and I will havew a shorter, less demanding ride. The Four Mile Run bike trail is amazingly beautiful in the morning -- a big change from my usual congested roads. Paul |
Got hit by a truck with "whiskey" plates yesterday - He hit my barend with the tailend of his truck when the two lane road shifted into a one lane.
Today I got told to get off the ******** road, and then I got swore at more when I told the moron to learn the rules of the road or he should get off instead. Only halfway into my second week of commuting and I already have to deal with this... ugh... |
What a great commute. My commute is 25K and I had a tail wind to work and back. Happens about once a year!
|
The summer weather continues, with 70(f) and clear skies as I head home. The tailwind that becomes the headwind when I ride hom was present as usual. For the first time in a while the trail didn't have the detour onto the road, so no break to the ride. Still tired but I enjoyed the ride.
