The ride in this morning was rather inspiring… 10:00am before I needed my first cup of coffee. 75F with a gentle breeze. :) I was press for time this morning and did not take the time to stretch. How many of you out there take the time to stretch before and after your ride?

I love biker terminology. ;)

Nice ride in today. Great temps and just a slight cooling breeze. I've just had four days off the bike for various reasons, and today the legs felt great. I was hitting the hills at least 2 gears higher than I was last week! Amazing what a bit of rest for tired legs will do... :D

Patrick A 06-15-04 10:56 AM

Man, it was about 75 and humid at about 6:30 this morning when I started out under threatening skies. I got to within a mile of the office and it started pretty good...within a half mile it started hailing! Small nuggets, and it didn't last too long, but I had just given my legs a fresh shave last night so they stung a bit! Pretty soaked, but nothing a good shower didn't fix. :)

caloso 06-15-04 12:31 PM

Last night I was heading for home, rolling out of the garage and coming to a trackstand on L Street waiting for a gap in traffic. I realized that to most people I probably look like a total dork (and a total Fred to roadie snobs): dress shirt and pants with reflective cuff-bands, loosened tie, helmet, bike shoes. A huge, dinged-up 4X4 rolled by and there was a teenage girl in the passenger seat. She leaned out the window and I expected her to say something rude or throw a soda can. Instead, she smiled, gave me a friendly wave, and said, "Hey! I like your bike!"

Now that made my day.

Hmmmm... I've been commuting and touring now for twenty three years, I really should start doing that. I suppose it's just a matter of getting into the habit.

Kodama 06-15-04 01:59 PM

Sweet day today, mostly blue with scattered big fluffy clouds. Getting warmer to, with 70s and 80s in the future. Skipped the MUP today and took to the streets for the 1st half then back to the MUP at the construction section. They routed us onto the road again as they were working in the underpass. Nice ride in today and I picked up Simpson's Season 4 (my 2nd fav season) from apt. office on the way in. Woo Hoo!

I worry about it in the morning… sometimes. I jump out of bed and I'm on the bike in 15 minutes. Maybe it would cut down on some of the soreness.

Moistfly 06-15-04 03:07 PM

Today was my first day ever commuting by bike and it was fantastic. Clear skies, cool early morning temps and really polite drivers. And on top of that it only took about 10 extra minutes to get to work (granted the majority of the ride is slightly downhill) ... but what a fantastic way to start the day.

Zin 06-15-04 05:07 PM

Conrats Moistfly on your first commute! A word of caution. Bicycle commuting can become adictive. :D

Nice ride home. Temp around 60F with SSW winds around 15MPH. Skies were full broken clouds that look to be trying to form into thunderheads.

ollo_ollo 06-15-04 05:35 PM

45F & sunny @ 6AM then 68F @ lunchtime & up to 72F this afternoon. Nothing but clear skyall around.

Panoramic 06-15-04 07:52 PM

Sweaty, hot, fun (I took some risky manouvers around cars), a bit disatisfying when I couldn't go full speed down the hill, and short (I sprinted). But as someone else said, a bad day on the bike beats a good day at work.

Moistfly 06-15-04 08:29 PM

So at work today I realized that they actually have a private shower stall in one of the bathrooms .... I'm sure everyone would think i'm wierd if I started using it ... but they'd probably think worse if I stunk every day ... and I don't have enough patience in my bones to take it slow to work. This is great, I only wish I could have been introduced to it sooner.

Alphie 06-15-04 11:23 PM

3-12 shift today. Warm and overcast when I rode in, thunderstorm arrived just after I walked in to work. Was a little concerned this afternoon about the ride home; strong lightning was prevalent. So much so, that my gf called to ask me not to bike home if the weather stayed rough. Nice and calm by 12 midnight though. Had a lovely cool ride home.

In the Netherlands..I saw this as common place...Sacramento gets pretty hot..BIkes do not come with A/C to keep you cool and your clothes sweet smelling...Watch out for that tie..Not so long it could get caught up in the spokes.

I actually remember a guy around here a few years ago who used to ride (apparently to work) in a three piece suit everyday. This is in Queensland, where 7am temperatures regularly top 30 degrees C. I don't know how he survived.

mrfix 06-16-04 04:20 AM

beautiful morning, I rode the road bike to work today, it was like getting a free ride. I had to take the long route in so I could be out there long enough to take in the sunrise. Mornings like this are what it's all about.

ridealot 06-16-04 05:18 AM

Got home before the rain started to fall yesterday afternoon. Not a bad ride home, wind at my back but the air was thick and sticky.

Ride in this morning was refreshing, the rain overnight blew in some fresh air and cleaned the streets.

Stubacca 06-16-04 09:02 AM

Stormy weather and very gloomy. A bit of lightning here and there both yesterday and today, but no rain yet. Legs are feeling great and I think I've got the new bike dialed in pretty well for shifting and riding position now.

Zin 06-16-04 09:22 AM

Today was one of those mornings where the world seemed new. No wind, no rain and cool temperatures. (40F) Had to dodge a dead skunk. Anyone for roadkill stew?

nesdog 06-16-04 11:31 AM

Well, I planned on riding the 14 miles to work today. Had the extra clothes already in the office, etc. Then last night, my shoulder and neck muscles got very tight and sore, probably from a workout I did the other day or perhaps the hour I spent planting new items in our garden on Sunday. Didn't sleep real great last night and wasn't especially keen on feeling uncomfortable when I was riding so I opted to just drive in as usual.

Mind you, I want to ride in about once a week or so all summer and only got started last week. Now, I'm all pissed off and depressed 'cause I didn't ride today! The neck is still sore but not painful or anything just muscle stuff. Arggggg........how completely lame to feel so down about this. (can't ride in tomorrow because I take my daughter to camp on Tu/Th and I'm off on Friday).

Well, gonna shoot for Monday!

I ride home in the late afternoons, yesterday was 100. Mileage is 14. I was pretty beat. Today is supposed to be in the mid 90's. Fortunately I have three things going for me: The bike trail is beautiful (saw two turkeys and deer), it's not humid and I have a pool at home!!

First 100F day of the year in Sactown yesterday. Today is the second. I think I'll just go easy on the way home tonight.

ollo_ollo 06-16-04 05:56 PM

Sunny commute today & warmer, 82F, finally beginning to see a few more cyclists going to & fro.

Jean Beetham Smith 06-16-04 07:38 PM

This week has featured a lot of going to work early and staying late. Thank God for the ride at either end, get there feeling as good as possible, and can look forward to the ride home. Last night was the first trip home in the dark in several weeks. Frog chorus to keep me company.

raleighm20 06-16-04 08:12 PM

First time commuting 2 days in a row today. This morning was beautiful - about 55 degrees clear and no breeze. The road home was somewhat tougher - 85 degrees and a slight breeze (in my face the whole way). Tommorrow's a day off, then we'll try again on Friday.

Chris L 06-16-04 09:28 PM

12 Degrees C this morning, didn't bother me a great deal as I like those temperatures. I have a minor cold (I don't get major ones) rightnow which is annoying, but gives me a few snot-rockets to fire at rednecks.

mrfix 06-17-04 04:40 AM

Nice morning, no wind, slightly humid and 68 degrees. The forcast says i'll be riding home in the rain.

ridealot 06-17-04 05:21 AM

Nice humid sticky ride home last night. Besides that nothing special.

Had a headwind on the way to work today. Pretty unusual for my ride in to have that.
