Nice ride in this morning in Atlanta. Mid 70's. We had thunderstorms last night, so everything was wet, but not too much standing water. The sun finally decided to come out so sunglasses were in order.
 Looking forward to a string of days in the 90's.

The last three days required that I commute by airplane to Easton, MD (on the far side of the Chesapeake Bay), so this was my first bike ride in six days. It felt good to be riding again, although the early morning heat and humidity (77F 25 C and 71 F / 21 C dew point)suggested that the day will turn out to be a scorcher. Still, it felt great to be on two wheels again.

Niiiice!!! :D

Very wet ride home yesterday. Rained the whole way...

Must. Buy. Fenders.

75F and muggy… There were a few other riders out this morning. It seemed that everyone was going to summer camp. I rode with a guy for about 3 miles who was a councilor at a summer camp. As I rode through the university campus I passed a group of about 150 kids (young teens) with their luggage and sleeping bags… oh the days of smores, water balloons and shaving cream fights. Everybody have a great day! :)

Much cooler this morning. A bit breezy for my taste but I'll take it over the 100+F temperatures we've had this week.

So, do you launch from your mouth or your nose?

38F with drizzle and a lovely north headwind the whole way into town. We had heavy rains overnight so the puddles were big. Expecting more heavy rain for the ride home with our predicted high temperature of 50F! Not bad riding weather. I just wonder if summer is ever going to come to the northern front range?

Weather has been pretty nice around Chicago's northwest suburbs. A little humid, hardly any wind, and partly cloudy. Sure has been nice weather. Except for the broken spoke on my rear wheel wheel yesterday afternoon, it sure has been good riding to work.

Good to see you back in the saddle, crestdude!

Its been clear and warm the last few days (too much work to read the forums yesterday) The warmer weather has brought wind with it, often providing a headwind both directions. The nice weather has also brought out the amateurs in droves. I have chosen alternate routes, but took the MUP home last night. Just put it in an easy gear and spun my way against the wind and the "obstructions" Just gotta keep your eye off the speedometer :)

I don't laugh at rednecks anymore. you can only see something so many times before it becomes less than funny.

9 degrees C this morning, coolest commute of 2004 to date. Just about ideal temperatures as far as I'm concerned.

ridealot 06-18-04 05:21 AM

The ride home last night was adventerous. The Cincinnati Reds had an afternoon game that was just about sold out. When I left work the game was over but the traffic from the fans was just horrible. The interstates were packed with cars which eventually spread out to the side streets that I use. Traffic sucked yesterday, lots of people in a hurry.

The ride in this morning was pretty good. A little cooler but not much. Spent about 15 minutes riding around downtown to look for an open donut shop (i had one hell of a craving for a donut this morning). All the ones I found were either closed or the line of people waiting was a mile long.

An uneventful commute this morning. Around 22 C and very overcast, humid and hazy. It's been a really wet spring so far. It seems to have rained 3-4 times a week. Hazy, overcast mornings like this I usually use a white, flashing LED light. It really gets driver attention, even in the daylight. Like most days, drivers where well behaved, Although I had a pedestrian, standing on the centre line, in the middle of the block, wait for cars to clear, look at me approaching and then intentionally step in front of me. I managed to stop about 2 feet from the a$$&*le. His only response, "pedestrians have the right of way, man."

As Supertramp once warbled "Take the long way home"............

Rather than turn right out the plant entrance, I went left (first time). This route would double the miles, from ten to over twenty. A series of killer hills and a mostly upward trending terrain for the first 13 miles. High humidity and a plethora of Black Flies began to make me question my decision.

The payoff was the last 7 or so miles. Mostly a downslope trend on a State Highway with 12' wide shoulders. A south-westerly wind added some additional push. Basically just sat back and coasted along, suckin down water, enjoying the scenery and watching the impending t-storm roll in.

Cold. Temps in the upper 30F range. Have added the winter layers back for the morning commute. We are flirting with record low temperatures this week. At least the rain has fallen before, or after my commute times. Everything is so lush and green. Not a normal situation for this part of Montana.

Moistfly 06-18-04 10:16 AM

Another superb commute. Temps in the high 60's. Sunny. I've come to the conclusion I need to find a better means of hauling clothes though as my bag is occasionally sliding on my back and throwing my weight balance off.

Awsome commute. Nice day, found 6 dollars blowing along the side of the road. Tried to figure out who dropped it but noone was in sight and the wind was blowing it so I gave it a new home. Took longer than usual to get in but I have been using today as a rest day so that is OK. 95 degrees at 9:00 AM! I could use it a little cooler but it was still a beautiful morning. Besides, the ride home will be much warmer.

caloso 06-18-04 11:17 AM

Was running late for work so I rode harder than I really wanted to on this perfectly cool and calm morning.

PaulH 06-18-04 11:29 AM

Yesterday, I was tempted not to put the rain gear on the rack. On the way home, I was glad I had resisted temptation.

Took the day off yesterday to catch up on gardening & yardwork but found the time for a ride in the afternoon: High of 86F (hot for Western Washington) clear & windy. Today is about the same but without the wind. 79F at lunchtime & lots of cyclists beginning to showup on the roads.

RicardoJM 06-18-04 01:13 PM

I'm sure you all have done this, or something similar. I didn't ride in to work today but I did bring my bike. Decided to head north on the South Platte trail, ended up eating Taco Bell, 26 miles round trip and 24 of it on bike path. To top is all off, I managed to get it all done in window of time where the rain did not fall.

Kodama 06-18-04 02:14 PM

Wow, nearly 80f when I set out at 9:30am. Supposed to stay clear and hot for the next 4+ days taboot. No wind, but kinda humid -- there was a kick ass storm a little after midnight last night, lighting, wind, torrential rain I think this got the moisture up. Lots of riders today, but less then the last few days. I've noticed this before, lots of people take Friday off from commute/exercise/whatever.

Chris L 06-18-04 03:38 PM

Loads of gridlock leading into Surfers Paradise last night, and a temperature of 17 degrees C. I just love passing all those "SUV"s (Stationary Urban Vehicles), especially if someone is in a car that's designed to go really really fast.

Had an east wind for the ride home which is unusual. It also put a headwind on my big climb at the end of the commute. So, I just stood and cranked right up the hill. Glad to be home and done for the work week. Hope everyone has a great weekend and a nice Father's Day. :D

Alphie 06-18-04 11:08 PM

3-12 shift today, after having Wednesday and Thursday off. We had a short, violent thunderstorm at noon while I was out for a morning run. By 3 the weather was back to the usual hot and muggy for Atl. Much cooler, nicer ride home. Gotta be back at work tomorrow by 9 am. :(

Jean Beetham Smith 06-19-04 04:09 PM

The occasional Saturday commute is nice, less traffic in the morning; and less aggressive traffic in the afternoon. People are more willing to be rational on their day off.

Alphie 06-19-04 07:54 PM

Beautiful ride in this morning around 8 ish. The trip back home was slowed by a warm headwind so I just downshifted and took it easy.

Alphie 06-20-04 08:34 PM

No biking today, some errands at work required the car.

Chris L 06-20-04 09:28 PM

8 degrees C this morning. We've now had more sub 10 days this "winter" so far than in the whole of last "winter". Not that I'm complaining one bit! Felt a little lethargic after last night's effort, but all should be good for the ride home.

Zin 06-21-04 08:43 AM

Nice morning FINALLY! Temperature was around 50F and very light winds. Not a cloud in the sky. I did note the interesting pattern of the "con-trails" over head made an almost perfect "tic-tac-toe" board.
