Whoa... you mow grass already? The earliest I've gotten my mower out was the end of May.

Great ride in, a little cool (30F/-1C), but sunny and they say we might hit 60! I got some extra miles in yesterday in the sun/warmth and it felt great. I'm looking forward to a repeat today! Have a great weekend all! :D

Nice riding this morning, and the weather seems to be improving as the day wears on, so the trip home might also be nice.

The big difference this week was made by putting the clocks forward last weekend. Riding home in the light is always so welcome after the long dark days of winter.

Have a good weekend folks,

Ed

Another beautiful morning. A little nip in the air at 30F, but calm and sunny.

Haven't been posting much lately, but I have been riding. Really starting to love it, now. Last night I rode home late, which was nice. Good moonlight, very little traffic. Then this morning I had a wonderful tailwind. Biking is completely part of my routine again. There isn't even any question whether I'll drive or ride. And I'm finally at the point where my shoulders aren't sore (much) when I get off the bike.

Rainy, for the past two days, but still cool enough to be pleasant. I've had my lights on for both commutes on both days. I'm glad I decided to keep the hug generator installed year-round.

The commute was sweet today -- and I did it twice! I ran home during lunch and picked up my new set of Panniers from the office. The skies are totally clear decent temp and a pretty high southerly wind. Great tailwind coming in, strong headwind going home, wouldn't kill me if it dies out before the evening ride home :) I need to do these lunch rides more often --good fun.

Clear again & 34F at 6:00 AM, it warmed up quickly & by 3:30 PM it was 70F with a light breeze. On my ride home & back at lunch time, I went part way on a bike path where I encountered a Deer. She just stood in the middle of the path watching me bear down on her at 25 mph. I had to yell & then squeal my brakes to get her moving. Mtessmer: yes our maritime climate keeps the grass green year around, it does go dormant during the Winter & we usually don't need to mow more than 1 or 2 times before May1 but this year we began having intermittent warm days in February & the grass really took off. I began mowing my small lawn weekly early in March, unusual but its a small price to pay for this great cycling weather. Don

Same old...motorists hitting cyclists on potholed, narrow streets. Cold days with rain and high winds. Depressing.

pinerider 04-03-04 07:04 AM

It was a rotten week weather-wise, with rain, fog, drizzle or showers every day. I drove Mon - Thurs for various reasons but was back in the saddle for Friday. The ride in almost didn't happen, the chain got stuck in the front derailleur and took considerable effort to get freed, bending and misaligning things a bit. Once I got going everything was ok, light wind, light rain and temp of +5 C (40 F) for the 12 km ride.
For the ride home, the weather was supposed to dry up, so I decided to try the whole 47 km (29 mile) commute. It took an hour and 50 minutes and rode through light rain for the last half hour, but it was a great ride! The best part was crossing the highway overpasses and seeing endless lines of cars, all moving much slower than I was, on a day when most of the drivers wouldn't even get outside for a walk. I was totally comfortable and dry. It was great!

Saturday was beautiful. Sunny & 73F but my day was given over to yard work & household repairs so I didn't expect to get a ride in. Fortunately a plumbing repair required a trip to Home Depot for parts, so I got out the Myata & went on two wheels. The parts almost fit inside my bar bag & it was a great ride, 8 miles round trip plus I didn't neet to waste time looking for a parking space. Don

We've had another bout of windy weather here in the UK, but that didn't put me off having a great ride yesterday (got a nice 30 miler under my belt). Today was similar, but the ride to work was just as fun.

Cheers,

Ed

I haven't been rained on forever, and I'm getting a little tired of this relentless sunshine.

PaulH 04-05-04 07:18 AM

A brisk, clear morning -- 24 mph / 39 kph, with gusts to 39 mph/63 kph -- and temperature 32F/0C. Good start to a week of pulling the trailer so as to drop off my daughter at Spring Break daycamp. A real workout.

Note to self...

When the temperature is near freezing, wear the long finger gloves!

One may guess that with the time change here in the states that is was a bit cooler than I had expected. After I had cleared the river bottoms and got out in the sun, it warmed up quite nicely. It'll take a couple of weeks to get used to the time change but sure look forward to the extended daylight hours in the evening.

mtessmer 04-05-04 09:59 AM

Ah, a great weekend, my wife and I got the tandem out a couple of times. I also had a nice comute in this morning too, although with the time change I'm back to using lights in the morning (dang) but it will be nice to have longer daylight hours late in the day. Now, if it would just warm up a little.

bradw 04-05-04 12:59 PM

Did a 150 mile tour over the weekend, so I'm feeling a little sluggish and I have a mild cough.

But it was a nice morning with clear skies and temps in the 40s. It'll be up in the 60s by the time I go home.

BeTheChange 04-05-04 02:48 PM

I was all dressed to get out into the 37 F weather. Then I went to my bike and the rear tire was flat. My girlfriend kept asking me why I was so tired in chemistry, I hadn't realized how much commuting wakes me up and keeps me focused. Peace.

Kodama 04-05-04 04:07 PM

Pretty nice ride in today, overcast and not too chilly. Just a bit of a headwind as well which is a nice change from the last few weeks. I'm in training mode for my upcoming tour so I'm riding with my front panniers on all the time. They just have my rain and cold weather gear in them now but I plan to increase the weight each week. I need to build the endurance, I did a ride on Whidbey Island on Saturday with probably 1/2 to 2/3 of my gear and I have to say it wore me out!

ollo_ollo 04-05-04 05:24 PM

At 6:00 AM the full moon shone thru a thin layer of clouds. It was not to cold, perhaps 40F. Back to riding with lights in the AM again. This best of all Springs continues to surprise me, the weatherman's forecast called for "drizzle" but it was 63F & sunny on the way home. Don

Nice ride home. NO WIND TODAY! What a treat! Normally a head wind for the ride home.
Lots of boats out on the Mighty Missourri this afternoon. No bikinis yet, though. :(

Chris L 04-05-04 09:19 PM

Last week I thought summer was over, how wrong I was! Disgustingly hot morning on the ride in today -- even having the fan on all night didn't let me get a lot of sleep last night. This really sucks.

Decided to take the coastal route this morning, a big swell in the South Pacific -- not sure what's stirred it up, but hopefully it might lead to better weather in the near future.

Zin 04-05-04 10:56 PM

Chris. I expect to be sounding exactly like you around August 15th. Hope things cool down for you!

hotwheels 04-06-04 12:40 AM

Perfect riding weather, had a safe commute.

Chris L 04-06-04 05:02 AM

Well, finally got some rain, a decent shower in the closing stages of the post-work ride tonight. Now my shoes are soaked -- hopefully they'll still be that way by the morning. :D

I love it when I get no wind for the way home. Makes a big difference.

:D

My ride in this morning was nice, pretty cool around 28(F). Supposed to be a clear nice day. The ride home should be pleasant.
