How was the commute today?
#5076
Cold start this morning, the temp is 47 and it get's colder down by the creek and river. After a bit I warmed up just fine. Tommorrow is Bike to Work Day here in the metro area, my office is doing it's part by offering a free breakfast to all who ride. It should be a great time.

Warm start today. Temp. was 47F with a north headwind of around 13MPH. This is the first morning that it actually felt like summer. I saw two other cyclists in full kit coming out of town as I was headed in. They were just kind of putzing around. Nice to see other folks out in the nice weather. I also had to make a trip down to one of our down-town offices this morning. Had to do some "Urban" riding around the road construction.

Yesterday, my wife did her first commute, although not to work. She put her lovely old lugged steel Nishiki road bike into the back of one of our cars and rode home from the windshield shop. Later, she stopped by our daughter's school for an end-of-year program and continued on to the shop to retrieve the car. Total distance -- about 13 miles/20 km.
As for me, day camp has started, so I am pulling the bike trailer again.

Bikes: Still have a few left!
Clear & 57f at 6AM. On my way in to work, a few clouds were rolling in & By lunchtime it was 67, overcast, with no blue sky at all. Supposed to be 84F today so expect it will burn off later & we should have a beautiful afternoon & evening. Only going to work 4 hours tomorrow so I can do some tractor work across town at our church so cooler weather is fine with me. Don

The heat continues, but a fairly strong wind was blowing in some cooler air. Today is supposed to be a few degrees below yesterdays 86f. Despite the wind (which was mostly a side wind but would gust from the front) I enjoyed the ride in quite a bit. Just enough cooler to not feel hot.

In what can only be considered an abject humiliation of the very asphalt I ride on, tonight I shattered-shattered, I tell you! all records for my commute, including the one set this morning with a time/average speed of 28:45/16.3, more than a minute faster than this morning's 29:45/15.9. Both rides were also the first time I got below 30 minutes and I achieved my goal of having my round trip commute by bike take less time than a single leg on the subway. I attribute my performance to extensive blood doping via massive oral infusions of Rolling Rock, and I look forward to tomorrow's commute, which is sure to feature me falling off my bike, probably in front of a lot of people.

good weather, good speed, my wife passed me in the car but I didn't see her. I was coming up to an intersection and she said I was looking at the oncoming traffic to decide if somebody was going to kill me.
Short ride, only 5 miles, but it's 5 miles of exercise that I wouldn't have gotten otherwise.

Excellent ride in, about 80 with a headwind about 10 mph. Tremendous thunderstorm caused a short power outage at work this afternoon, but the rain stopped by 8 for my return. Cool moist air 70ish for the ride home tonight. I can tell the old quads are getting a little stronger, standing on the pedals to push up hills is easier now.

Had a great one this morning, I watched the sun come up as I rode along a back road it is 65 degrees and no wind, I was loaded, I had a cast iron exhaust manifold for an old farm tractor in my left pannier. I repaired it for a friend and was dropping it off on the way to work. When I left the house the bike was just tipping the 100 pound mark. My ride time was 1 hour 9 minutes for my 18.5 miles, I stopped half way to loose the wind jacket.

Hi Folks,
Back on the commute run for the first time in a couple of weeks after some holiday. Fortunately I was able to ride a little whilst away, so today's journey was not a total shock. The wet and windy weather, however, was a bit of a jolt after sunny Californian skies.
Cheers,
Ed

It's bike to work day. There were a bunch of people out this morning. It was very nice to be cruising along and see someone every couple of minutes. The weather was niced, temps in the upper 50's.

After not riding on Monday and Tuesday it felt great to ride in today. I saw a few other commuters and the lights were in my favor. well some of them anyway. it looks to me like this is the only positive thread on the board these days.

73F... it was superb! After a four day hiatus from riding, I now realize how much stress I have in my life. Buying first home, planning a family and career decisions have started to weigh me down. That quite little ride in to work is the only thing truly helping me keep it together. Ben & Jerry's Fish Food does as much damage as it does good.
Have a great day.

The commute home last night was into a 15MPH headwind, but at least it was warm! The temp. ~70F. The river banks were full of fishermen hoping to snag the "big one." Its funny how much fishing smells like cigarettes!
The ride in this morning was great! Only a 4MPH breeze. Around 50F with high thin clouds. I almost stopped to take my wind jacket off.
Ahh, bicycle commuting.........LIFE IS GOOD!

Last night's commute home was warm and sunny but I had a headwind the whole ride.
This morning was beautiful again, but cool and no headwind. Felt grrrreeeeeaaaaattttt! all the way in.

woohoo 10% chance of rain tonight! I will be glad of even a dust storm or some clouds though (especially if there is a tailwind involved!). I rode home in 103 degree heat yesterday and this mornings ride in was 88 at 8:00 AM. Nice warm commutes. Glad to see clouds around though. Perhaps the Monsoons getting ready to start.

Well, it's been a little while since I've been on here. I guess I'm just getting absorbed by the summer weather (a little cool, but I'll take it). I took Monday off and did a day ride, a little over 90 miles, the weather was nice and I had a great time. I just headed west, I had no plans, and just explored, it was wonderful. I had a nice ride in to one of my four offices this morning that I thought was the farthest away and found out it wasn't... hmmm, go figure. The weather is great, it should be a great ride home. Isn't summer wonderful?

Great ride home! Temp in the low 80s! Little wind. The river was full of rafters, boaters, and "floaters." I had to move out into the lane when a couple of gals carrying an innertube wouldn't move over as they walked towards me. It seems to me that if your belly is as big as mine, ladies you should not be in a bikini!
EDIT: Sorry for the poor grammer.

Clouded up and the 80s(f) are a thing of the past. I'm sure they'll be back, but I was starting to fear of an overly hot summer. Still some wind of course, wouldn't be summer without that

Moved pretty quickly again this morning, but this evening I deliberately took it easy, although I did take my usual (and unjustified) glee in blowing by all the club riders in the park with my heavy bag on my back and my bike that probably cost less than their rear derailleurs. Woohoo!

Nice clear cool morning ride in, I took the long way through the country side so I could watch the sun rise when I crest a hill about half way here, and what a beauty she was, the sky is clear and the sun was like a ball of fire comming up over the horizon, I'll tell you, most people miss so much living life in the busy fashion that they do. The total ride distance was 46 miles. It's great riding a 5:00 AM, there's no one on the road.
