Happens to me all the time. Does anyone in Atlanta use turn signals?


Anyway, I started my new tempory (30-90 days??), part-time (20-40 hours per week) job today at Atlanta Bicycle Campaign. It's nice working where you're "expected" to bike to work. Just bring your bike inside and lean it up against the desk or the wall. My bike was about 20 feet from my desk.

The ride in wasn't bad. Only 8.4 miles. Since I haven't commuted (translated: haven't been employed) in quite a while, I wasn't used to the heavy load I was hauling - heavier bike, rack, panniers, stuff in the panniers.
The short hills I encountered for the first 4 miles were tough. Luckily I've been riding the hills at Stone Mountain all summer. That helped a lot.

The ride home was a little more hectic. I ran into lots of traffic near Emory University but they are used to seeing bicyclists and bike commuters so most motorists did a good job of not following too close and passing with care. Thanks. I got caught behind a Marta bus for 5 blocks. Stop, go slow, stop, go slow, etc. Once I got past it I moved along ok.

That's it. Very pleasant and uneventful ride. I hope tomorrow and every day is just as nice.

We are into the final week before our son's wedding (yup, we married off both our kids in one summer) so I was planning to drive to work to save a few minutes for errands. So I hopped into car only to discover that the battery was so dead that it couldn't even sound the alarm. Cars demand so much attention. Dan wanted to jumpstart it, but that would have made him late for work, I just changed into riding clothes and rode to work, wasn't even close to being late. Who says cars are reliable transportation?

Headwind going home last night (the morning's tailwind, of course). A few spits of rain.

This morning, brisk with a bit of sun, a sidewind, and a sprinkling of snow across Mt Wellington.

Wow, summer is back! Well, at least for 2 more days! Temp. was ~85F when I left work. Soooo..... I took a 20 mile spin. Last 10 miles were into a 17MPH headwind. Oh yeah, I had my panniers both stuffed. About 25 extra pounds. Was a good work out!

Wonderful ride in this morning. Tempature was cool and the wind was calm. What normally takes 45 minutes took a little over an hour becuase I took my time and enjoyed the ride.

Magnificant ride in this morning. The tropical storm that passed just to our east yesterday brought cool morning temps, low humidity, and a nice breeze. Although my headlight decided to die on me, the full moon assisted greatly (I had to ride through some of the more wooded places in near complete darkness). I left a little late and had to ride fairly slowly without my light but really enjoyed my ride.

Its getting cold in the mornings. Feels like there was barely any summer at all this year and that really sucked. Pretty uneventful ride in. Gonna take the MTB in tomorrow and hit some local trails after work. Weather is supposed to be good for the next few days. (There I've gone and jinxed myself!)

On the ride home yesterday, the 'ole speedometer clicked pass 1,000 miles! I think back on the last 1k -- rain, heat, cold, bad drivers, good decent drivers -- and I look forward to many, many more!

More wine for my men, for tomorrow we ride at dawn!

This morning sucked because I got 2 flats both on the rear. But then again I was not stuck in traffic and the sun was shining so it wasn't that bad.

brought my panniers to work today cause I was going to go to wal-mart at lunch. My first bicycle shopping trip. Went there, they have lots of bike racks and lots of bikes already locked to it, that was nice. Locked it up, had the lady at customer service hold my panniers and helmet behind the desk so I don't get tackled when I leave the store.

I seem to have almost overshopped. Some clothes, an electric pump to inflate rafts and 24 sodas. Soon as I put those panniers back on the bike, i knew priority #1 was keeping the thing 100% vertical, even a slight lean to the bike would make it fall over. I got back to work OK though, and am now thinking that lunchtime errands aren't out of the question when I bike to work.

Overcast & 60F at 5:45AM, I left a bit early & enjoyed the solitary commute in. Just listening to the crickets & coyotes as the horizon turned pink. The high fog burned off by Noon & we had a beautiful 76F day when I rode home at 3:30PM. I was on my Bianchi Trofeo & felt the need for speed: To highlight my commute home, I hammered by a 20 something kid on a mountain bike. We were ascending a pretty steep incline on the bike path & my speedo showed 16 MPH as I pulled away. Usually I just chug up that stretch at 10-12MPH. Sometimes it is the Bike!

Beaut ride to work this morning for two-thirds of the way, then a headwind. Sunny, tho, and temperature pleasant 13 deg C. My trusty commute/touring/brevet bike clicked over 25,000km as well.

Low 50'sF & light fog this mornin'. 'Bout 75F & lite north breeze this afternoon. Didn't ride yesterday stayed up too late Sunday eve.

Thinking about challenging myself to ride everyday that I work in September. I'm really behind in the milage catagory this year.

You and I had almost the same temperatures this morning -- what are the odds on that???

14 degrees C and light drizzle this morning. Another moronic horn-leaner in Surfers, but I'm far to arrogant to care about idiots like that anymore. Big cross-breeze of the ocean generating plenty of ocean spray. Should be an interesting ride home.

Hi caloso - I commute to downtown Sac as well. This morning (Tues.) I was inbound on Capitol around 27th and had a car pull up next to me and pace me. I usually crank it up to about 24mph between 29th and 25th so I can hit that series of traffic lights. Guess the guy wanted to see how fast I was going or something. I felt boxed in with him on the left and parked cars on the right.

I don't want to jinx it, but it was the third night in a row that I haven't had to put a foot down on the pavement... I've been hitting so many green lights... It's been beautiful.

Yep, it's good to know how to trackstand........besides, chicks in vehicles dig it too...

beautiful morning, low 50's and no wind, I got a little side tracked on the way to work and ended up with a 48.65 mile ride in, I took a ride through the back country roads where there were no vehicles or people walking or running. I watched the sun rise from the top of a good long climb, what a beauty, things like that are really what this sport is all about. The next few days are forcasted to be similar to today, should be a nice week. Enjoy the ride.

Great ride this morning, not a cloud in the sky, perfect temperature - 14 miles of pure cycling heaven.Given more time and a sympathetic boss, I'd have taken your lead, Mrfix and added the remaining 36 miles

A great morning for riding. Temps were in the upper 50's and there was no wind at all. I counted 21 other bikes this morning. Two of them were recumbents being ridden by kids going to school. I also saw a tandem in a pack of road bikes.

It should be great weather for the ride home this afternoon.

Haven't posted in forever, but I've been riding (over 2000 miles since I moved). It's starting to get a little chilly in the morning. I'll probably have to invest in a long-sleeve jersey soon. Also looks like I'm going to be riding in the dark in a week or two.
Today was nice and cool to start out with, and the rising sun made everything look pretty. :-)

Great ride this morning. (well, aren't they all?) Temperature was a balmy 65F/18C with very little wind. Kind of dark this morning as we had a cloud deck hiding the sun.

Great ride in this am ... cool high 60's with only moderate humidity for a change! Nice sunrise. Gotta put the light back on, it's dark at 7 when I need to leave ... I just waited till 7:10 today.

I didn't ride yesterday cause I had to take my son to get his retainer fitted. That was the first day I hadn't ridden in over 2 weeks and it was amazing how bad I felt. Crabby and cranky all day. Office looked really wierd with no bike leaning against the wall. I feel MUCH better today

Good ride home yesterday and good ride in today. The Reds have a business day special again today. The game will probably get out right when I leave work again. Yeah more traffic.
