Giant rodent almost got me this morning - scared the sh*t out of me. About a mile later, my left clip-thingy came loose. So, I'm sitting on the grass of a grocery store tightening the thing when the sprinkler system starts. Didn't get too wet, but was beginning to think that perhaps my ride karma was out of balance. The rest of the ride was very nice. Still have a wierd clicking that I have not figured out.
Have a great weekend - ride !!

bikebuddha 03-11-05 05:44 PM

Super windy on the way home. Wore me out.

ollo_ollo 03-11-05 08:18 PM

39F at 6AM with patchy fog today...60F this afternoon, cloudy with sun breaks all day. Nice riding but almost got right hooked twice, once at lunctime then again on the way home this afternoon. Have a good weekend. Don

I ride 4 miles to work and 4 miles back. (Wichita, KS) Three days a week I am allowed one hour of workout time, so I get an additional 15 miles. I got 85 miles in this week. AM commute was 34F, ride home was 58F almost everyday. Cool wind out of NW. I lost my military ID on one afternoon workout ride and ended up re-riding the entire route to look for it. No luck.

cicadashell 03-14-05 08:02 AM

beautiful 20 °F and sunny. first time on the bike in a week (don't ask about last week), and a fresh drive train overhaul to boot. wheeee!

SaskCyclist 03-14-05 09:07 AM

Great ride in this morning....too bad I had to stop when I got to the office. No wind and no cagers this morning. There is an upside to a 6:30am commute. Conditions were -16 with very little wind.

Have a great day.

RonH 03-14-05 10:16 AM

This morning wasn't quite as nice as Sunday, which is probably a good thing. Yesterday it was 77F (25C) and bright sunshine. Summer is on the way!

Anyway, this morning it was in the high 40s, light wind, and slightly overcast. The traffic seemed kind of light too, or maybe they were just being "cooperative". ;)

As usual I had to strip down half way to work. Took off my gloves as my hands were getting damp and removed the light weight windbreaker (with sleeves). I have two sleeveless windbreakers (one light weight - one heavier weight) but I wish someone made a short sleeve windbreaker. Some days a sleeveless doesn't work. My shoulders and upper arms get cool. Maybe someday.

eastbaybob 03-14-05 10:29 AM

I left a bit late today, at 8:00 AM which is actually the time work begins. Temps were a bit warmer than last week so I had to keep things slow as I work in the cloths that I ride in. On this trip I was also using GPS, but as it was calibrated to a different set of satallites it was not useful on this trip, although I did hit 29 kph on the Rosewood slope. Back to the ride, exit from the condo gate was slowed due to a Honda Civic that arrived at the gate just before me. Once past the Honda it was a non trafficed ride to the Las Posas Jig. A wait at the light for eternity then the quick ride down Las Posas. I flew down the Rosewood slope. Valuable seconds were lost at the stop sign as the lady in the small car did not want to use here right of way. After the turn onto Paseo Camarillo, I used the sidewalk just because I could, then slid into the office late, but not as late as my supervisor. Total commute time was maybe 10 minutes.

A fairly stiff north wind this morning. My mom, the retired fourth-grade teacher, will tell you that a north wind makes kids hyper and spacey. I was hoping it wouldn't affect motorists the same way.

So far, so good.

mtessmer 03-14-05 12:02 PM

Well, we are certainly stuck in this winter thing, it was 12F/-11C this morning and we'll stay well below freezing all day. At least we have more daylight. I still had a wonderful ride in this morning, I'm use to it.

tulip 03-14-05 01:16 PM

good: early start, new panniers, blooming maple trees
not-so-good: slow me, cold toes

Blue Tread 03-14-05 02:41 PM

Hi,
This is a neat idea. Today I did my first commute, and it was cold. I hope tomorrow will be easier and warmer. We'll see...

vrkelley 03-14-05 02:43 PM

Velogirl...Cold feet will definately slow your commute times. Hope your next commute is warmer.

Temperature extremes today. Frost last night, departing at 41F, arriving at 47F temps expected to be 65. Thought I took it easy this morning but arrived 1mph faster than last week.

Still honk'n slow compared to those racer dudes ;) A co worker saw me on a climb and exclaimed at how fast I was. ROFL she didn't see my speedometer... :) Nice compliment anyway.

Go again? Wind coming FROM the North? Hmmmm. I'll have to check this theory out on the road.

Good commute today.

Caught up to a guy on a mountain bike (Seeing other morning bikers around here is pretty rare, so that's always a plus.) while climbing a hill. Gave a friendly greeting as I passed and he asked "Why ya goin' so fast?" Replied, "Late for work." as I rolled on by (I got a bit of a late start.).

Later on in the commute one car buzzes me kinda close, while another looks like they're gonna pull out of a side street in front of me. Gave the "evil eye" to the side street car and felt myself starting to get that pissed-off-at-all-cagers feeling, and talked myself out of it.

Had the realization that I'm out on my bike, on a cool, clear morning, *enjoying* my ride to work while they're trapped in their crappy metal-cage probably stressed out and hating it, so why should I let their misery impinge on my good commute-vibe? Close call, dumb-move, whatever, as long as I'm still rolling it's not gonna do me much good to get pissed off. Trying to get better at maintaining that bike-zen attitude instead of raging. It's easy on mornings like today.

Well, here in the Sacto Valley, the prevailing wind is from the SSW. When it starts blowing from the north, it's a reverse flow. Same phenomenon as the Santa Ana for our SoCal friends.

ollo_ollo 03-14-05 04:03 PM

29F, clear & calm at 6AM today. I woke up with a sore throat & cold but decided to try to ride it off & pushed all the way into work. Didn't work, & I began to lose my voice. Co-workers told me to go away & come back healthy so I came home for good at 12:30 pm. Sunny and 61F, think I'll take a nap this afternoon. Don

EarlT 03-14-05 07:25 PM

Fell sideways into pool yesterday, hip bounced really hard off coping on the way. Nowhere near enough range of motion to ride a bike today:(
Enjoy yourselves, and stay away from pools (they are more dangerous than you might think.

bikebuddha 03-14-05 09:23 PM

Took the long way home and bonked bad. Had to pull off into the park and get off the bike. I couldn't believe how bad I felt. It took me twice the normal time to get home We had a party at work today and I ate a few cookies about an hour before I hit the road and I think that contributed.

Alcyon 03-14-05 09:56 PM

I was halfway up one of the two colossal hills I take up to school every morning today, when what happens, but a bright orange corolla with a spoiler and a grille the size of my bookshelf screeches through a stop sign and stops, dead, two inches from my right leg.

He had kind of a quizzical look, and I was mighty p***ed off, so I gave him the friendly finger and kept going.

Otherwise it was fine. Doesn't compare to the time this punk opened his car door at night and smoked my leg with it.

super-douper 03-14-05 10:45 PM

nice 10mile ride home today. Weather has been great lately.....pretty uneventful ride, until I got 1/2 mile from home and I see a lady pickup a piece of trash and walk over to some hedges and throw it behind. I was wondering what the hell she was doing until I got closer and saw a child squatting and going to the bathroom right there next to the sidewalk! She was throwing the toilet paper the child used behind some hedges.

Oh, and I passed a one-way cyclist with walkman blaring too.

anyway, it was a great ride.

spidercyclist 03-14-05 11:28 PM

Bad day at work, But good ride to work and home .
Still had a lot of frozen mud and snow .
I hope it warms up soon . Have a good nite .

ridealot 03-15-05 06:21 AM

Good commute in today. Warmer temps, it was around 24F. High today is supposed to get around 45F. Light traffic and no wind. Very good commute.

Cookies will do that.
The winds we've had lately haven't helped either. I had a headwind all the way to work last Friday. Yesterday (Monday) I had crosswinds all the way home.

bikebuddha 03-15-05 07:37 AM

Cooler this morning, thankfully no repeat of yesterday's bonking. A Lexus SUV with a Sorba sticker and a bike rack pulled the ol' right hook, nearly taking off my front wheel.

tulip 03-15-05 08:23 AM

still cold, still slow, but I'm a happy gal to be on my bike!

and i'm happy that you're happy. and happy to be on my bike as well.

almost 30 °F today, and sunny to begin, but now cloudy; weak threat of "flurries". i am now officially allowing myself to imagine a ride into work that does not include dodging patches of ice.

RicardoJM 03-15-05 08:41 AM

It was a great morning. The temps were in the mid teens and there was no wind. I noticed that I am not as sweaty when I get into the office. There were a few icy spots here and there, but overall the path was in very good shape. I saw one other person out on a bike this morning and a few fresh tracks that tell me there were others out earlier.

Tree Trunk 03-15-05 11:30 AM

First commute of the year this morning. Wow! Someone must have went out and made the hills more steep. I picked a good day for it -- sunny, no wind, temperature in the 20s (supposed to push 40 for the ride home).

My light bit the dust this past December, so I waited for the sunlight to catch up with me. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

Marylandnewbie 03-15-05 11:43 AM

Fabulous commute in this morning. Bright, sunny low to mid 30s -- although a little more wind than necessary. The trail was generally dry and any wet areas were still frozen this morning so the ride was easy. The new bike worked beautifully and shaved 20 minutes off my previous commute time. The gear was all working as it should and I had the right layers on to be warm but not sweaty. It was kind of weird to be on the trail with so many other riders you could actually do a traffic report, but it was smooth sailing all the way.
