Smoky this morning, which normally bugs me, but may have been a good thing this morning. I was expecting to be a little nervous after yesterday's crash, but that all disappeared once I got on the bike and just started pedalling. Man that was a good feeling!

spidercyclist 10-07-04 10:18 PM

Nice ride, Took the short cut to work again. Thanks

Ed Holland 10-08-04 06:33 AM

9/10 <insert favourite derogatory name for careless motorist here> points to the driver who nearly felled another cyclist and myself this morning by almost pulling out of a side turning into the pair of us.

How would Oscar Wilde have put it?

"To injure one cycist with an idiot manouvre might be considered unfortunate, but to bag two starts to look like carelessness"

/end rant/

Other than that incident, I had a fine enjoyable ride today.

Have a good weekend everyone and ride safely,

Ed

couldn't ride yesterday because i had time management issues i was unable to solve without a car. but not today! cloudy, a little cooler, possibly some rain later...bring it on, i say. i sure like being on my bike!

If you're riding in Philly before 8:00 am, it is a breeze. This is one of the latest waking cities I have ever lived in. The only problem with today's commute was some old lady honking at me because I wasn't giving her 20 feet clearance to pass me. She had a lane and half to go around me, but instead she rode about three feet off my back tire.

Zin 10-08-04 09:27 AM

38F at my place when I headed out. Once to the river bottoms it was below freezing. There was heavy frost on the plants, trees, and cars. I is much easier riding in the cooler weather for the second year than it was last year trying to figure out how many layers I needed for a given temp.

I rode my new 2005 Jamis Quest to work today. :D Its supposed to be 76F this afternoon! So, I'm bailing out of the office at noon to go for a ride on my new baby. (did 18 miles on Logan's Pass yesterday, didn't quite make the summit.)

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Bob

I only wish I could have biked today. Damn time constraints. Have to be leaving town by 4....to the farm by 6. Harvest is proceeding full speed. I can't wait until Tuesday for the next commute. That is too long; I will have to squeeze some activity in over the weekend....to work off the turkey (Thanksgiving in Canada). Today would have been a nice commute though....zero celcius with no wind and full sun.

Have a great weekend (a long one if you are a Canuck).

Bob, Congrats on the new bike!

Commute today was very brief, but beautiful! The temps hit low 80's F on the way home, but I only had about a mile and a half ride as I was picked up at a local park and ride. I rode in with my regular work clothes on though, and I must say, riding in denim jeans is not the most pleasant experience... :o

60F & raining hard today, I didn't ride because I stubbed my little toe against a chair leg last night. It was sore & swollen this morning & I couldn't get my bike shoe on so I just drove in to work & hobbled around all day. Enjoy the weekend.

Absolutely gorgeous beautiful day in Hobart! How could anyone ask for more? Finally able to get rid of the arm/leg warmers and enjoy some sunshine. Roll on summer!! :D

BrenHébert 10-10-04 05:56 PM

Well, for the last 8-1/2 months I've had a job that I do ON my bicycle, so no commute! lol I've been delivering ~120 newspapers for the local newspaper. And for someone who HATES hills -- one of the routes is on Think-Of-Me Hill. Okay, I end up walking up some of it, but still, at least my blood sugars are almost down to normal, my triglycerides are, too, my cholesterol is down to 130, my blood pressure is down 20 points and I've even lost at least 10 pounds! (even though every so often I get a craving for a McDonald's $1 double-cheeseburger after I'm finished delivering papers. LOL) BTW -- the subscribers on the hill usually tip more than the others. :D ~~Bren

You and Rowan are conspiring to make me move, aren't you?

Smoky here this morning as the fires in the Hinterland are still burning (where is the wet season?). I took it a little slower after yesterday's 175km epic (when I escaped the smoke by heading for the Tweed Valley). At 22 degrees C it was a little warmer than I would have liked, but cooler than at this time last week. God, let it rain!

Ed Holland 10-11-04 03:33 AM

Good ride today, if a bit slow. It was rather windy today and I had to carry rather a lot of stuff to work. On the scales here at work, my backpack weighed in at 6.7 kilos (about 14.5 lbs) which is plenty! As I recall the UCI minimum bike weight is around 6.8 kg....

Cheers,

Ed

Good ride in today. A breath of wind and the morning breaking over the city and the sea. Heavy pannier of stuff for the week ahead but the legs were fluid and the bike was as nimble as it can be. Enjoyed myself and feel more able to face Monday back after a week away.

vtjim 10-11-04 06:02 AM

45 degrees and raining. Legs got chilled. Time for tights, perhaps.

cicadashell 10-11-04 07:34 AM

oh about 42 °F, but dry and clear. got a good soaking friday night but there has been precious little rain here lately. perhaps if i take the fenders off my bike...

mtessmer 10-11-04 08:23 AM

Great commute this morning, a balmy 51F, clear skies and a beautiful sunrise by the end of my ride this morning (it's very dark when I leave in the morning). It's suppose to hit the 70's again today, way above normal... I'll take it.

Dark Arrow 10-11-04 09:17 AM

Chilly willy 36 deg F and Sunny. Still no Snow and lots of colorful trees. Give me 20 more degrees of heat and I'd say it was pretty nice. BRRRRRRR

Chris

WonkerJaw 10-11-04 09:54 AM

First time in a week I was able to ride. :) It was chilly at 61 degrees and no wind.

Tree Trunk 10-11-04 12:29 PM

Finally giving mechanical attention to my commuter bike after ten years. The bike has who knows how many miles on it and still had all the original parts. Replacing chain, cassette, big chain ring, bottom bracket. I'm out of money this week so I had to wait on the chain ring and bottom bracket. I rode my mountain bike while wearing high top hiking shoes this morning. It was an interesting contrast -- riding a mountain bike on the road after riding a hybrid and road bike all summer.

ollo_ollo 10-11-04 01:01 PM

44F with a high, broken layer of thin clouds @ 6AM today. Rode down South Bay road about a mile) without encountering a single car in either direction. Alone in the dark within my circle of light. Supposed to be 68 today & dry all week.

CommuterKat 10-11-04 02:59 PM

Cold, cold, cold this morning, but back up toward tolerable this afternoon. When I went out this morning, it seemed pretty warm (maybe 50F?), and not raining, so I changed from some tights to shorts, and headed out. Pretty soon the temps started dropping, and it started to mist. I was a little cool, but I thought I was going to be ok. Then the temperature started to plummet, and I swear the mist turned into sleet for a while. Not a pleasant thing in very thin spandex. I arrived at work shivering, red and drippy nosed, with co-workers asking me why I continue to insist on wearing shorts and sandals when it is October in Vermont. I dunno, I guess I keep hoping for another shot at Indian Summer and the temps will jump up into the 80's again! :D

I'll be riding my new commuter bike tomorrow morning for the first time and am really excited. I recently got an '89 Centurion road bike on Ebay and just finished getting it ready to do duty as my dedicated commuter. I upgraded to 700 x 28 Bontrager Select K touring tires, installed SPD Ritchey mtb pedals, and replaced the loose ball bearing bottom bracket with a new Shimano cartridge type. I took it for a spin this evening and adjusted everything and installed my lights. Eventually I plan to make it a single speed, but that may wait until January or so.

spidercyclist 10-11-04 09:59 PM

Nice ride in and cool ride home.
It had to be about 44 temp on the way home .
Have a good nite .

cyclezealot 10-12-04 12:09 AM

Could post this under thread about helmets...Had a typical ride home from a meeting at work..But, It seems stuff always happens to me under freeways in Temecula..
It seems this interchange just does not like me...Motorists are usually jerks under the 15 bridge.
New event today...I was under the overpass...Heard a clanking up above ... Something , I think fell off of a passing truck..The clanking...It looked like a large wrench hit a freeway rail...It was...Came down about 10 feet away...A pipe wrench about 8 inches long...Hit the pavement with a loud thud.. Would my helmet have helped? How could this happen. ?
We don't get rain here..It just rains pipe wrenches..Sort of freaked me out as I heard it fall. And I had my better road bike, too.

Chris L 10-12-04 01:58 AM

Humid, humid and more humid. How can it get this humid without actually raining?

mrfix 10-12-04 04:38 AM

high forties this morning with a strong head wind, my ride to work was slow, fall is here and winter will follow shortly. This afternoon is forcasted to be nice, mid 60's and calm.

ridealot 10-12-04 07:17 AM

Cool ride in this morning, low 40's for the tempature. Was a little tired but fell good once i got to work.

The tempature is supposed to drop as the week goes on. Fall is here.

For the first time in two weeks I was back on my bike! I was surprised with how quickly I needed to down shift. :(

With a dusting of cloud cover, new moon in 2 days, head band over my ears deadening any sound, and nary a car on the road at 5:45am, the only way it could be more tranquil would be if I were asleep, but then I wouldn’t realize the tranquility. I was in a zone! :D

I included a picture of the scenery on my commute this morning; the picture includes sound just turn up your speakers! ;) Unfortunately technology is not advanced enough to allow me to include the barnyard smell that I enjoyed as well. :p
