44F when I left. As I descended to the river bottom I could feel the temperature drop. It must have been near or below freezing down there. Lots of frost on plants and the edge of the roadway. I had to stop and put my ear warmer thing'y on. Afterwords was nice ride in.

caloso 10-05-04 09:49 AM

I'll be off the bike for a couple of weeks at the end of the month so I've been getting up early to do long detours into work. Yesterday, I did the River Road on the Yolo Co. side of the Sacramento River. This morning I headed over to the American River Bike Trail.

I noticed many friendly people on the trail this morning. Maybe it's because I'm just spinning along rather than hammering as I usually do. Maybe it's because I'm taking the time to wave to everyone I pass. Maybe it's because I was wearing my Cal Bears jersey and everyone's jumping on the Beat USC bandwagon.

Waved to some runners near Sac State. Said "hello" to an older man on a Trek on the Guy West Bridge. The Trek was a fairly recent vintage 1000 but he had the handle bars flipped over like cool dudes would do back in the day.

Another perfect way to start the day.

Very dense fog & 53F @ 6AM today. The few cars out at that hour honored my yellow strobes & multiple blinkies as they passed with caution & gave me a wide berth. Bright & sunny 62F at Noon but supposed to rain this afternoon, maybe I will repair the flat I got on the Bianchi yesterday afternoon. Don

did i read my thermometer incorrectly this morning? i saw 37 °F in ann arbor, although i'm fully willing to believe it was 10 degrees colder elsewhere in southeast michigan. where you at, mr. ridley?

Terry PL 10-05-04 01:38 PM

Upper 50s at 6 am. Wore a windbreaker for the second time since last Spring. The day was starting out with a pretty deep marine layer--should be sunny by noon though. The bike path runs right through Hermosa Beach. I stopped for a few minutes to watch my daughter surf with her high school surf team. Made some calls to the corporate office in Baltimore (I love to call them when I'm at the beach).

Headed to work with a pretty good tail wind. Looking forward to the ride home in just about 5 hours!

Best part it's been three weeks since I put gas in my car (and I still have 1/2 a tank).

That settles it, I'm moving.

24 degrees C and disgustingly humid this morning. About the only two redeeming features I can think of were that at least it wasn't 30 (it was this time last year), and I clocked 11 on the pre-dawn ride this morning at Tallebudgera. Apart from the temperature, it was quite a pleasant commute, nice bit of ocean spray in the air, relatively small number of morons (this is Queensland after all), and made reasonable time. Now just where was that afternoon rain they promised us yesterday?

spidercyclist 10-05-04 10:15 PM

Took the long way to work today. Nice ride .
Thanks ...

mrfix 10-06-04 04:40 AM

cold here this morning, about a 4 mph headwind, I guess winter is upon us. I wore the lake MXZ 300's this morning for the first time this year and don't regret it, my feet were nice and toasty. Te ride was kind of on the tense side, the traffic seemed to be moving fast and sort of out of control. Well almost time for the studs.

Yep, same here, good feeling isn't it? :)

Ride home last night was pretty good. Bright and sunny which warmed things up, tempature was in the mid 60'sF. Traffic was light going through downtown, almost felt like a holiday.

Ride in this morning was refreshing again nice cool tempature of 37F. Did not feel sluggish like I did yesterday on the bike so it must have been me getting used to the cold again. :o

What an awesome ride! 50 deg in KCMO at 5:30 this morning. I love this time of year here. On my way, through neighborhoods, I always pass the same set of houses. I smell BREAKFAST! Man that smells good! I feel like one of Pavlov's dogs! Exclellent ride.

cicadashell 10-06-04 06:50 AM

warmer, 46 °F, plenty of sunshine, comin' my way, zip-ah-dee-doo-dah!

madhouse 10-06-04 08:04 AM

I haven’t been on my bike in 9 days!!  I have been working vigorously on putting up a post-frame shed and have been making trips to and from the rental store. (I couldn’t figure out how to drag the 700# auger behind my bike.) Assuming I make it to the store to buy something warm on my head I will be back commuting tomorrow! 
Go Twins!

Zin 10-06-04 08:17 AM

YEAH! GO TWINS! (I have some smack-talking to do here in the office today! :D)

Anyway, back to the great ride today! Temp was 50F! A bit on the breezy side. The leafs are being blown off the trees. Won't be long and the beautiful color of autumn will give way to the dull brown of winter.

super-douper 10-06-04 09:03 AM

I havn't been biking much lately, so I've been trying to ride more. I try to ride more but not so much that I'm too sore or tired to ride the next day.

Yesterday was great, did a quick 5 miles at lunch, then after work met my wife at the store to do some grocery shopping. Store was 12 miles round trip, on the way back there was a slight tail wind and I was cruising at about 22 mph. That's pretty fast for me! I also seemd to hit every green light. What a great day.

operator 10-06-04 09:08 AM

Biking down to work almost had two idiots plow into me on the right hand lane on a 2 lane road from left turners going opposite direction. I wish people in the left hand lane would stop trying to be nice and letting these people through. One day a car or someone is going to get broadsided.

Today it was 38*F when I left, but there was heavy frost on the ground at some points in my ride, including up onto tall grass & corn. That indicates at least 32 and probably 30 or less.

thanks. our house is high on a hill (by the water treatment plant) so i'm not surprised that low-lying areas are significantly colder in the morning. but hey, dig this crazy sunshine, eh? i think our nasty-weather-bill will come due in november, however.

oops, posted this in the wrong thread. I guess I had to many windows open at once.

Rogerinchrist 10-06-04 04:41 PM

I still get a kick out of that thread madhouse,(ssshhhhh). Say, how ya comin' on those 107 trips?
Todays' ride was warm & windy.

ollo_ollo 10-06-04 05:56 PM

Scattered showers & 60F AM, partly sunny & 68F PM: still very light traffic, I wonder why? Passed a couple deer grazing on the shoulder near where the I-5 off rampmerges with Martin Way. I yelled & spooked them back into the woods to (maybe) live another day. Don

Jean Beetham Smith 10-06-04 06:37 PM

The official am temp today was 45F/7C, but our house thermometer read 32.2F/0c. Today I can be confident that our thermometer is accurate, as we had our first frost covering the whole back yard. I am officially p-o'd at my car. I needed to take my dog to work today to have a lump biopsied, and my car wouldn't start (again). Fortunately, my "alternate transportation mode" was working well. Dog will just get re-scheduled next week.

it's cold these days..thank god for layering..experimenting with different clothing sets but with layering it's all good.. and i'm especially glad my bro bought me a windproof/waterproof cycling jacket, these things are a must.

Nice ride today , Rode the ss today. Found a shot cut to work . Less cars in my way . Thanks

Chris L 10-07-04 02:50 AM

Nice sunset, nice view of a flame tree in Southport, stupid crash on the Sundale Bridge, now some road rash to nurse, but I think I'll be OK.

mrfix 10-07-04 04:22 AM

Nice ride today, a bit warmer then yesterday and less traffic.

MsMittens 10-07-04 04:27 AM

Beautiful! 5:45am and 12 C. Very few cars on the road plus all the lights were green. :D

PaulH 10-07-04 07:15 AM

Beautiful and sunny -- 51 F / 11 C this morning. For the first time since last spring, I wore my sports jacket. School was closed today, so I used my trailer to take my daughter to the "vacation camp". The result was an hour of riding, more than half of it towing my daughter -- aomething of a workout!

The best part was that my route brought us along a small river called Four Mile Run. Catherine had hoped that we might see some herons, and we did -- a Great Egret and a pair of Great Blur Herona. These birds are three or four feet tall and spectacular to see.

A bonus private lane for me this morning: a work crew had set up pylons blocking off a lane of L Street for several blocks but hadn't started work yet.

Todays' ride was warm & windy.

The ride deficit is up to 110, I bought some winter clothing.

The Twins/Yankees went to extra innings which meant an extra pint and 1 less hour of sleep which equaled oversleeping. So for the 10th day in a row I haven’t ridden to work!

ollo_ollo 10-07-04 06:44 PM

47F, clear & cool bright stars shining down @ 6AM, by Noon it was 62F & sunny with a few thin, high clouds. 65F and clouding up this afternoon, supposed to rain after midnight & be wet tomorrow. Didn't see any wildlife on today's ride & that's unusual.
Saw an abandoned 3 spd minus stem, bars, chain & seat laying in the weeds, need to go back & check it out as it may have possibilities. Don

HEY, that's what I was gonna write! Really though, it is exactly how it was here in Wisconsin today. Roger
