Friday night was frustration time. Got through with work about 8:30pm and went to the basement to head home. I knew I was in trouble when I saw a light in the cornor. The low battery warning light on my NiteRider Digital had come on. Although I'd turned the light off in the morning, I'd forgotten to unplug the light from the battery. Oh well, that's why I carry a back up Emitter and another Cateye on the fork. The emitter was dead, even though I'd just put fresh batteries in it. That left just the 3 led light on my fork that is more of a "look at me" light than lighting. So I fell back on my final "just in case" item... cell phone and patient husband. Best part was that he was willing to drop me off today on his way to the hardware store, so I got to ride home today in daylight, which is getting to be a rare treat.

Well, it appears that fall is not going to be messin' around. A cool 35 degrees when I left this morning. I underdressed a by just a little, coulda used a windbreaker - but I was warm enough by the time I arrived.
Traffic was almost zero. Stumbled across a pair of police cruisers behind a carrout (shortcut) that were 'taking 5' or 50 or whatever. I think I scared 'em as I blasted by them, sort of funny...
Time to find a pair of winter tights I suppose. Looking forward to the ride home though at least it will be 60-ish then.

I made it! Actually rode to work every day that I worked in September (October so far too)! First time ever. Twenty four days in one month, can ya tell I proud?
This week ended "normal" 50'sF & upper 60's with a breeze in the afternoon.

okay, another fresh 'n' cool morning, around 50 °F, but with a stiff and gusty 10 knots from the north. a full two-thirds of my ride is due south, so that kind of blew me along nicely. it will probably have calmed by this afternoon.

i tell you, even with all the bonehead drivers out there (not to mention the usual handful of cretins on cycles), i wouldn't trade that time outside on my bike for anything. wheee!!

As I woke up this am at 7:00 I thought I have fifteen minutes to get ready if I bike and 30 if I drive. I really wanted to bike. Normally I get up at 6 and I am usually in a panick to get out the door on time. Thanks to good timing of lights and in spite of a few bonehead motorists I was in the office at 8. It was an awesome ride with a minus 5C, full sun and a slight tailwind.

Not a good morning - I had to take my lovely wife to the airport bus and say goodbye since she is travelling back to the USA for a while :cry: . Bad enough, but the ride to work was miserably wet and windy :mad: .

I had a bit of a fun commute home on Friday! Blew out a rear spoke on my almost 20 year-old rear wheel. I had stopped at a stop sign (gasp) and when I started to go, I heard a loud bang from the back of the bike. I thought I'd blown the tire but when I looked down, I noticed one very badly out-of-true section and it was hitting the brake pads.

Pulled off for inspection and discovered the spoke had snapped right off at the hub. Called wife for rescue.

Got a new wheel rather than worry about more 20 year-old spokes snapping. Today's commute was uneventful.

It was a bit humid from the weekend rain but the temp was nice at 71 degrees. As I rode in this morning it was dark and I started to click the chain down the cassette. I'm thinking to myself "Boy, I'm doing great today!" Finally, bike, road, and man have become one. The chain sits on the smallest cog and I am flying!

The sky starts to lighten and it is apparent that the chain is also in the middle chainring. For a while I was ridding through Utopia with a tailwind. :o

I'm back from my cycling vacation in SE Oklahoma. Had a blast!

29F this morning with patchy fog along the river. Feels like its time to grow the beard out for winter. Dressed just right. I need to get my lighting systems all worked out. It will be dark soon on the morning commute.

52F & foggy @ 6AM, I felt cold though, so I wore shorts with t-shirt, shirt, ragwool sweater & a long sleeve jersey over everything. Big mistake as I got really overheated right away. It was still foggy at lunchtime when I rode home with a roll of outerwear bungeed onto my rack. Its supposed to be in the 70s today when the fog burns off, so I think I'll ride my Bianchi this afternoon. Don

Boy, it's definitely fall, it was 34F this morning, it's 3pm now and it's only 46F. Still, I had a great ride in this morning and a fun run at lunch time. I'm planning the long way home. At least the sun is shining and the fall colors are begining to take charge... beautiful!

Got up early and took a long detour into work this morning. Most of it was on the levee road along the Sacramento. I'm not into fishing so I don't know what's running but something must be because there were boats lined up from Freeport all the way to the Tower Bridge. I wish I'd brought a camera. It was a cool scene.

Wore armwarmers and knee warmers for the first time this season and that was just about perfect for this morning.

Great way to start the week.

Cold, wet, grey, miserable weather, but traffic was light, and polite *gasp!* Finally got some fenders though, so no skunk stripe up the jacket when I got home!! :D

The morning began with a reality check, web & newspaper say a low of 45F/7C, but our thermometer says 39F/3C. Who do I believe? Nothing to do but step out the door in my nightshirt, I think the truth was someplace between the 2, so I decided to wear wool socks with my SPD sandals, knickers, a long sleeve Coolmax Tee topped with a short sleeve jersey, liner gloves under my cycling half finger gloves. Since it was dry, I was dressed perfectly (if not winning a fashion award). Now if I could just predict where the road work in front of the office was going to be so I could plan my route as well.

Wow! 73F and bright sun for the ride home! First time in a month that I've been able to ride in shorts and jersey! Yep, its Autumn in Montana. 44F degree swing between the morning and evening ride!

It was great! perfect weather.... overcast and in the low 70's. Tail wind the whole time.... down hill both ways!!!

Well, more or less anyway. It was my first commute ever so I'm biased. I'd like to hear about how everyone's first commute was. So if you guys/gals don't mind you could follow the link below and post about it!

a perfect cool morning I took the back roads with quite a bit of climbing, 22 mile ride average speed of 15 mph. very little traffic and no sign of life, human or otherwise.

Nice cool morning I had today. The tempature was right around 39F. Made for a nice ride. I felt a little sluggish and heavy though. Not sure if it was the cooler temps or something wrong with the bike. See how it goes on the way home.

I found it a bit chilly (4 C with a windchill of 0 C). But I got to finally truly put my new Lake Winter Cycling shoes to the test. My feet were sweating by the time I got to work (50 minutes later, riding and light stops). I think I will have to get a shell to stop the wind. My knees felt a bit sluggish and a little cold.

37(F) degrees at our house. Gorgeous morning. Sun came up over the Green Mountains and lit up the top half of the Adirondacks in a blaze of yellow across the lake. Near 100% visibility. Crisp air. Lovely commute. :)

Nice sunny morning (made a change from yesterday). At last I am beginning to pick up fitness again on recovering from the worst cold I have suffered in years.

55°F when I started this morning; finally decided to wear the windbreaker till I get warmed up. Noticed a contrail outbreak this morning. Listened to some Micheal Oldfield while on the bike path. Generally a great day to ride!

yesterday's north wind slackened somewhat by afternoon, but i still wore the fleece home, which was a first.

this morning, oh, very crisp, 37 °F, clear as a bell. no shame in wearing tights, and gloves with fingers.

on published temperatures versus thermometers, it should be noted that temperatures vary spatially, so that number on the web or in the newspaper is unlikely to match your local reading. this is especially true in the morning, before the sun has had a chance to fire up the convective transfer of heat from place to place. the sort of weather forecasting you get in the papers and the television and so forth is rteally preposterous, saying today's high will be 62 °F but tomorrow's will be 63 °F, so it's really warming up folks isn't it? that is not meteorology, that is advertising.

33.8F this morning. I dressed well, except for the fact that I wore summer shoes, and my gloves really suck. I was warm @ first, but then when the gloves got moist from my effort, the wind poked trhough and made my fingers cold.. Off to shopping for good gloves this weekend.

The good news is, it was a beautiful, crisp fall morning.

The bad news is, it had a hole, too. (WTF?)

The good news is, I had a patch.

The bad news is, my "fits both Schrader and Presta!" pump doesn't.

The good news is, I had an adapter.

The bad news is, the patch let go so now I have a nice road bike with a flat rear tire in my office.

The good news is, there's an LBS about a mile away that will sell me a tube--maybe one without a hole.

The good news is, it's a beautiful, crisp fall morning.
