I over loaded my trike for what the rack could stand.
I bent the rack. Had a tire rub all the way to work. I figured this out after stopping and adjusting fender and thinking I needed more air in rear tire for extra load. Fixed frame today. Need to travel lighter. Catrike Road #116. "Cats just don't feel safe on a moving bicycle, no matter how much duct tape you use"--Author unknown |
44F with light rain as I rode in on my Centurion at 6AM this morning. By lunchtime, it was sunny and stayed that way through the afternoon & on my commute home. as I turned west into our drive, I could see clouds rolling in from the southwest for the scheduled rain tonight. I finally managed to fit a set of zefal fenders on my Torelli (30 mm clearance on the front fork) so I was ready if it rained this afternoon. Good

Greetings from someone who wishes he still lived in Portland. With regards to your post, I ride both multi-gear and fixed and recommend trying fixed to all my geared friends. Not because I think it is really cool (it is, though) but because it is just plain fun !! Really does take me back to the feeling of first learning to ride. Plus, there are benefits with improved pedal-stroke and such. Besides, you live in what is, IMHO, the perfect city for any and all types of cycling (I miss bike lanes and people in cars who act like they have actually seen a bike on the street). Not trying to convince you to try fixed (a lie- I am too). Just my two cents. Enjoy Portland, I never realized just how nice it was until I ended up here in Texas. |
cold(20's), windy, black ice has returned but yesterdays snows have melted. Safe to say March came in like a lion. Good ride none-the-less
|
Good ride. Cold and windy (27°F). Saw a student waiting for a school bus doing the "Oompa Loompa" song. Brought a smile to my face. Happy trails!
|
we had quite a bit of snow yesterday, with a layer of slush first, so the ride was treacherous back up near my house, and dodgy everywhere else. there were a few unusually grumpy motorists as well. it's been knid of a long winter. dare i long for spring?

43F with light rain at 6AM, uneventful ride in through light traffic. Showers & sunshine throughout the day. Pleased to note the sky is lightening up near the end of my commute, soon I can store my lights & batteries until Fall.

it was a fast
Hard ride to work and home today. Alot of cars on the way to work and home. The rail bed that I take to work is under a foot of snow . So hopefully In a day or so I can get back on it . It is a fast ride on the main roads, but not safe and not as fun . Have a good nite . |
44F and a nice sunrise at 6am today. Pretty easy ride in this morning, with the typical quizzical looks from the local Vegas (is there really such a thing?) commuters. My ride is pretty straightforward - West side 'burbs with a few major intersections.
Have a good one! Michael |
low 20's, clear skies, windy. my single track through the snow is kicking my a$$. I fell over like a sack of potatoes. If I could keep my momentum going then I can ride it clean but....looking foward to spring

urban coyote
crossed my path, quick and sure, as gray as the dawn |
plenty of snow still
neighborhood a crunchy mess under azure skies |
I rode a single speed to work today.
Problem is, when I left my door it was a three speed. And wouldn't you know it, the two low gears where the ones lost. Luckily there wasn't anything too hilly, but starting out from red lights wasn't fun. I only had to walk the bike once--up the ramp to the parking garage. The weather was great, though. |
38F with very wet, dense fog at 6 AM: rode in on the "foggy day" bike with its 55watt headlight & yellow zenon flashers. The light traffic was very aware of me & everyone passed with care. Later the fog burned off & we had a sunny 60F day.

Good ride to work and home . But it was very icy .
Have a good mite . |
I finally took off the Nokians and put on two 700x32 panaracers (Soma New Xpress and Urban Max). The ride was going well, but then the wheel went out of true. I couldn't get it true on the road, so I had to pull out my emergency bus fare.
Today, I am grateful for bike racks on busses. They saved me a 1-2 mile walk with a loaded bike slowed down by a possibly messed up axel. I'll check on the wheel later in the day. If I can't figure it out, I'll just take the bus to the LBS on the way home. On the bright side, when something goes wrong, it's a satisfying feeling just to reach into your seat bag and pull out the solution. Edit: I checked it. The hub is loose. I just rehabed it a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully, I'll be able to tighten it tonight. But it looks like I'm bussing it home. |
I had to drive today. I was so bummed. It's getting so I hate to get into the car at rush hour. It would have been a great ride, sun was shinnning, cold but refreshing air.

First commute in a while this morning. Felt great, good weather, traffic still sucks.
|
I had the "A" bike all prepped for a hard early morning ride today but when I got up it was drizzling with dark clouds to the west. Sigh. Time to bring out ol' Reliable with the fenders and the heavy tires and the blinkies and the balky rear derailler. Still got a good ride in but I kept thinking about the Pretty One, sitting in the garage, all dressed up but nowhere to go.
|
Great ride in this morning. I was surprised when I got up this morning and found out it was above freezing! I got extra miles in yesterday and I'll get them in today too! My favorite bike shop got a new bike in so I'm going to take a little extra time at lunch and pedal over there and check it out. Ahhhh, it won't belong and spring will be here. Have a great weekend!

Fixies are kind of on the back of my mind. Perhaps having both (like you do) would encourage me more. I am looking to convert one of my bikes to a singlespeed for bike polo. Did you ever check out their games on the east side o' the river? Seems pretty cool :B |
34F, clear with no wind when I left home at 6AM today but about a mile from work I noticed a lot of white frost on the road. I had just crested a hill & was already doing about 25 mph on my Bianchi with its 700 X 18 tires! Very carefully eased out of the bike lane into the traffic lane which was mostly bare where the auto tires tracked. I coasted down without gaining much speed, then rode very carefully to the back door at work. Checked the temperature there & it was 32F. It was sunny when I came home for the day but now (4:12 PM) a high layer of clouds rolled in. Supposed to be nice this weekend. Hope the forecast is right. Have a good weekend. Don

I biked for the first time since the first of Feb. Scheduling conflicts, wife’s trip, and cold temps (My gear will only keep me comfortable/safe to 10F) have kept me off the bike. My wife was gone the week that it was in the 50’s in Feb!!!  I’m about 300 posts behind on this thread… I felt guilty reading when I wasn’t riding. :o
The ride was good, but I have lost all my conditioning, and my saddle wasn’t as comfy as I thought it was… I had just gotten used to it. I still have Nokians on… I’m too afraid of tempting Mother Nature if I remove them. I figure they just add to the intensity of the workout. :D |
Awesome ride...the best yet on this 5200. If every ride were like Friday nigth's fast easy ride, I'd truly have an addiction problem. Broke all records and arrived not even winded. :D
