Saw Mt. St. Helens shooting ash about 7 miles into the sky last night on my way home. I stopped and watched it from a nice overlook in SE Portland with a bunch of other people. Made me late for dinner, but it was a pretty good show.

I must be jinxed. That T-intersection where I never meet another vehicle until yesterday. It happened again today. I came to a screeching halt. I think my commute departure time has drifted into school dropoff time.

Then I'm riding along this beautiful street. Nice and wide, smooth, never have any problems there. This car cruises in front of me to my left then gradually slows. Child in seat. School nearby. I deduce he is looking for a parking spot along the road. No turn signal. Grrrrrr. He pulls right in front of me. Fortunately I was prepared so I made an emergency swerve to the left to miss him. No fun.

With bike no.1 in the pits for essential maintenance, bike no.2 has developed some odd grumbling sounds. Oh for the love of god why?

Ugg. I think the rear hub of my commuter is failing. For a few months now, I've had this situation where I'll rotate the cranks nearly a half revolution before it catches. Now there's weird creaking and popping from the back. Ugg.

Chamber of Commerce weather again this morning. Thought I'd see more bikes out but it's still the same handful.

weather was great yesterday after work...went for a 30mile ride along a MUP. The ride was really nice, only a few squirrels playing frogger and i managed to only get half a dozen gnats in my mouth.

First time posting in this thread. Ride was good today. Got on the bike at 5am and rode 10 miles with a nice tail wind. Definitely needed sweats and jacket this morning. Ride home will be a monster, though.. gusting headwinds all the way it looks like.

Yesterday it reached 72F before the clouds rolled in, so it was only down to 53F this morning, very few autos on the way in to work, streets were almost deserted. 60F at 4PM, but still cloudy. Had 2 nice circuits to work & back but now I have to go water all our ornamentals, they are getting distressed from all the dry weather. (Notice how I avoid the "R" word) Don

I was a little concerned about the wind here in Saskatoon as well... turned out to be a great help. I had a 45-55km/h wind at my back for most of my ride home. The streets were free of ice/snow. I actually managed to match my summer average speed.

This morning: 9F with a 15 to 50 mph breeze, rained and snowed and blowed yesterday and last night so the road was mostly packed snow over iced asphalt, walked one little section because of road camber and ice (and no shoulder on the road), and another section where the headwind was too strong (tire would spin on road, forward momentum ceasing). The real fun was having to pedal down an 11% grade in a 32 x 22 at 70 rpm, I normally coast this section at 45 mph. To work commute time (13 miles) 1 hour 15 minutes: normal commute time 40 to 50 minutes. Coming home tonight 18F with about a 20 to 25 mph current pushing me up the hill for the first 5 miles. The sun during the day had cleared much of the roadway, so it was faster. Both commutes were excellent!

Nothing remarkable today except the cold, supposed to get up to 50 this afternoon but sure was chilly this am.

Oh yeah, the other thing is that entropy is taking its toll on my equipment. Everything seems to be failing. The zipper on my jacket is broken, the cover on my red blinkie fell off, my rear der is jumping, and to top it off my favorite pair of wool socks ripped at the heel this morning. It's just not right. Things should last forever! I really like those socks. Now they are chain cleaning rags. So sad.

Great ride in this morning even though it was 17F and a car blew through a stop sign just in front of me. Traffic seemed heavier than normal too. Must be the new moon.

Chilly this morning with temps around 27 degrees although once I warmed up I was pretty comfortable, even a little sweaty once I pulled into the garage. I woke up and left a little later than usual, even contemplated Metro, but VeloGirl reminded me of the ACC tournament and I figured an afternoon Metro ride would be very crowded. A few icy spots but a beautiful ride nonetheless, I even slowed down near the airport to enjoy the view of the Potomac and DC. The afternoon ride should be a little warmer, I hope.

A bit breezy this morning, just enough to clear away the haze that settles over the valley, revealing a sky so blue that it hurts your eyes just to look at it.

Well, it was a white ride in this morning, but it was a balmy 34F/1C. The roads were clear and just wet by lunch time. The wind is suppose to pick up this afternoon and, of course, it will be in my face on the way home. All part of the adventure, right?

My wet, cold ride home yesterday morning has been all but forgotten due to ideal conditions for todays ride in. Did, however, have have a strange clickng noise that seemed to come from rear wheel (hmmm...). No big deal, ride home at 3:30 tomorrow morning should be nice as well.

Cold commute to work, 15F light winds, 17.5 miles one-way. Glasses froze...but at least there was no snow on the ground!

Excellent! Headed in: In the upper 20s, weird road blockade that cost me a couple minutes, but no big deal. Still kept the ride at about an hour. Slight headwind. Headed home: Even better, upper 40s and again a slight headwind (Why does that always seem to happen?). Great clouds. Made it home in 50 minutes because it's all downhill going home. Perfect after a trying day at work!

50F at 6AM with light fog, left a bit earlier than usual & was only passed by 3 cars on the way in this morning. Sunny by Noon & 60F this afternoon called for shorts & a Yellow bike. Don

Good ride to work and home. People on cell phones and driving make me nervous. I was getting ready to pull out of the parking garage at work and the two people in front of me were on cell phones. I just waited and let them go. Overall, my ride was good.

Since last riding, I service my rear derailleur and put some new rubber on. The ride is this morning was smooth and fine. There was no wind and the temps were in the upper 20s. The afternoon temp should be in the mid 60s. I saw four others out on bikes this morning. They are predicting snow here for the early part of next week.

Nice & easy. But they're predicting heavy winds later today so the ride home may be hairy.

Spring Break begins soon.

It must be friday . . . I forgot my dress shoes so I am clogging around in my IP SPDs, making a fashion statement. Hey, at least I remembered the undies. Well, when I go out for lunch I will have an efficient pedal stroke!

Spring has arrived: Clear, calm and 58F. I'm almost embarrassed to mention how gorgeous this morning is here in Sacramento, especially after reading about frozen glasses.

Rode the "A" bike into work today, just in case I can slip out unnoticed this afternoon for a few miles. I'm noticing more road bikes in the bike cage lately, I wonder if others are having the same thoughts.
