I almost died!!!
I was in Florida all last week (not a vacation
) and haven't ridden since June 17. Today was my first day back at it and talk about pain. My 60 year old body was having a tough time. My breathing was all screwed up
but the legs worked ok.
I hope I'll be "ready" for the ride home this afternoon.

Sheesh, it was 52 degrees on the way in. Nice! Got rained on yesterday and most likely will today as well. But it is only suppose to be in the low seventies. Gotta love that!

Today was interesting. My front wheel was rubbing against a brake pad, so I flipped it over to adjust and when I set it right side, I did it too hard and the chain popped off (so I am now covered in grease). It is about 100% humidity and by the time I get to the train, I am soaked and dripping sweat. BTW - my front wheel started rubbing on the brake, again. But, I had the quick release set too tight so in the parking garage spent 20 minutes struggling, with all my strength, to get the quick release to give. I think I worked up an even bigger sweat from that!
Yesterday, I dropped a resume off at a coffee shop (for part-time weekend work) one mile from my house (didn't ride bike). The kid working directed me to print and complete an application from the website, which I just did, to include with the resume.
I need to drop it off in person and would like to today. It is about a mile from my house. I get home at about 5 - 7 minutes before 8:00 p.m., they close at 8:00 p.m., so I got extra motivation to be moving fast on the commute home.
But, they are calling for thunderstorms starting in the late afternoon....

Oh! Forgot to mention: On yesterday's ride home, I went by a guy riding a unicycle. ~26" MTB tire. Wearing padding in case he crashed. Just thought that was an unusual thing to see.

Woohoo, my first commute in many months... My back's been keeping me from riding as much as I'd like. This week we're house sitting only 3 miles from work though, so I'm commuting. (My regular ride, which I haven't done this year yet, is 12 miles.) Anyway, I'm psyched. The weather was nice. Traffic light. And the seat-post bike rack I got and finally got to use worked out great. Love not having my back all sweaty from a backpack.

Day two's weather was even more crappy for biking than day one's. Humidity has been through the roof the last two days and by the time I make it to work (7 miles) I feel like I've been riding in the rain. Thank God for the showers.
Yesterday's ride home was fun, as I was riding with traffic going to the Red Sox games. I was a little frightened, but I made it home in one piece

Commutes of late have been generally nice in the morning. The evening commutes have been under thunder and lightning. Even got hailed on once. Strange weather this year.

Hot ride home yesterday. I did meet another commuter so that was pretty cool.
Ride in this morning was not to bad. Clear skies but a chance of rain again this afternoon.

70 degree dewpoint this morning. Uncomfortable.
I took up position behind a green-clad roadie with panniers. He made a good pace bike, but he bailed off the trail and onto a road less than halfway through my commute. Oh well.
This was a first... The sprinkler system in Burlington's Waterfront Park was turned on. I timed it so I'd ride through one of the jets of water. Mild relief that had disappeared by the time I arrived at work 5 minutes later.
There seem to be a lot more recreational trail users in the morning than there were last year. Mostly older women on comfort bikes. Not sure why there's an upswing. Good for them, though...

Back to commute after a two week hiatus. A little way into the ride I simply smiled. It was nice to be back. When I drive to work (1 hr later than riding) I see other bikers. However my commute is O solo mio. (It's only me).
See you around.

Well the little black rain cloud that's been following me lately, visited me on my ride home. Skipped the train, rode 20+miles and got hammered for half the ride by HEAVY RAIN/THUNDER. Very refreshing though! Unfortunately I couldn't see a thing. I was worried that cars wouldn't see me. I had no place to bail until the rains slowed down.

I left work at 4:30 and raced the storm to my car in the commuter lot. It's now 9:30 pm and the storm hasn't materialized yet. Any moment now we are going to get hammered. yup any moment......................

Last night's ride was great until I was about 2 blocks from home. Some bozo blew past me (in a residential area with 25mph speed limit) in a white Chevy Impala. He had his window open so I yelled, "Hey idiot, are you going fast enough?" He slammed on the brakes and jumped out of the car and asked what I said. He looked to be about 15 years younger than me and 50-60 pounds heavier. I told him and he pulled out his wallet and flipped it open (for about 1.5 second) so I could see some sort of badge. Between the short time it was open and the fuzzy writing (I didn't have my glasses on) I couldn't tell if it was real or if he was just a security guard trying to impress me or if it was an "official" Mickey Mouse deputy sheriff badge or what. We exchanged words, including discussion of riding on the sidewalk, to which I replied was illegal in Georgia, etc. He finally got in his car and drove off.
The strange thing about the situation was we both just passed a "Share the Road" yard sign about 1/2 block back.
Needless to say I was pissed for the next couple of hours.

Yesterday's ride home: Rain. Fairly comfortable, actually.
This morning it was back to being too humid, and it was foggy. Lots of trail hotties out today, including one on a bike.

Ride home last night was hot and humid. That did not stop me from adding on an extra 17 miles to stop at UPS to pick up a package. That was an added bonus!
Ride in this morning was typical, warm and humid, there was light traffic though.
Weathermen again talking about some major rain today. All week it has been threats of rain with no show. I think that they are toying with my mind.

A nice fifty-two degrees this morning and a huge cloud of some sort of tiny, winged insects. They were a bit salty tasting, but not too terribly unappetizing.

Real cop?? I don't know. Like I said I wasn't wearing my glasses so his "badge and ID card" were fuzzy and he only flipped his wallet open for less than 2 seconds. I guess he was trying to impress me (not) or frighten me (not).
I pulled out my "Give 3 feet when passing flyer" but he wasn't interested. Typical. Many law enforcement officials in Georgia, maybe most, don't know the law regarding cyclists and don't care about learning it.

Looks like a great day for bike commuting, but I'm gonna have to pass. I'm having my regular (~every 3 weeks) massage after work and the last thing I want is a massage while I'm sweaty and dirty. I want to enjoy it!
