Tail winds. I love tail winds. Quite possibly my fastest commute home ever this afternoon in the high 70s.

Got home and attacked my drivetrain. Chain, rings, cassette. Degreased and cleaned, along with wheels and frame. I was a bit worried that dirt and grease were the only things holding my chain together, but no, there's metal in there.

I was riding with my GPS. Here's my route from work (Burlington) to home.

My ride today: hot this a.m., not so hot this p.m., but I made the mistake of riding on a fairly busy highway albeit on the shoulder....it gave me the "willies" so I won't do that again. When I went through the 'hood no one threw anything at me, but one person did pass me precariously close!!! Me no likey.......

Great ride to work and home. Must have rain before I came out of work today.Had some mud in spots on the way home.
But it was still a great ride today . Have a good nite .

Good ride home yesterday. Warm with the tempature right above 80F. Traffic was a little heavy but manageable.

Today must be get lost in Cincinnati day. I was asked 5 times on my way to work directions on how to get some where. I was able to help everyone except one person that wanted to go someplace I never heard of.

Good weather this morning, tempature right in the low 60'sF.

Another great ride into work this morning. I realize that it won't be long and I'll be paying the price for this perfect weather I'm experiencing now (meaning that it will be hot as Satan's attic soon).
I have to work late to attend a meeting this afternoon so I will more than likely sneak in a little ride on my lunch break.

Excellent ride, perfect temperature. All the cars were behaving (as usual, actually). The ride home should be good as well, it's not supposed to get so hot today.

After months of preperation and waiting, finally got to ride in the rain this morning.

It doesen't pay to commute :-) Not really. I have not driven my car since last Thursday and this morning got in it to come to work but the battery was dead. arrr

The fresh turtle roadkill of yesterday morning is nothing but dirty pancaked shell fragments this morning. A sad memorial to that beautiful creature. Carried away by countless cars, trucks and other heavy vehicles, off to some driveway, or embedded in the treads of a tire, dust to dust, ashes to ashes. What an undignified end to this life. I'm reminded that my "shell" won't save me either from 2-ton predators. God save me from that fate.

On a more happy note, success in negotiating the most difficult intersection on the morning commute, a shared straight/right turn. I was first in line this morning, which spells trouble, since I was attacked by an impatient motorist about 2 years ago at this very place. At the time, I took the lane and made everyone wait, even on the green arrow. I'm going straight. After some advice from users on this forum, I decided to try a biased left in the lane. Second in line today was a hospital shuttle who stopped behind me with a right turn signal. I shifted my bike even more left to let him turn right. He turned with a nod. I then "closed the gate" by moving inches to my right, which caused the car behind the shuttle to stop, no turn signal. Wait, wait, wait. I look back, driver is on cell phone. For some reason, I sensed he wanted to turn. I pointed at him and then pointed right. He nodded so I "opened the gate" and let him turn. Next car, no turn signal. Green light, phew, no more gate keeper. The car behind indeed did want to go straight so I slid right and let them pass left. Tricky little intersection.

Great ride this morning. Temps in the low 50's. My legs were a bit dead from the 11 Mile jaunt I went on last night, but I kept motivated by keeping pace with a commuter that hopped on the bikepath just ahead of me about 4 miles into my commute. I kept pace for a couple of miles before falling behind due to my dead legs. The friendly competition, which he didn't know was taking palce, helped me score my best ride time to work in my 5 commutes - 54 minutes.

Yesterday's afternoon ride home was just great, the fastest so far this year by 3 minutes. I had to yell at a couple of drivers who were being stupid, though.

This morning was slower, but still a good ride. Got a late start, so I didn't see the usual commuting set on the roads.

Good ride. Rode 3 difference bikes each day this week. My old beater on monday which is finally beat(stick a fork in it), my kinda old mnt bike on tues which was toooo small for commuting and last night "stole' my sons XL mnt bike rigid cromo Gary fisher, slapped on slicks, fenders and a rack. I'm gonna make him an offer on that baby tonight. Fit like a glove.

I had a wonderful commute this morning. I feel myself getting faster and stronger at it.

I was asked to stay late tonight, so will probably have the wife pick me up tonight.

Gears continue to slip or have a hard time changing, on and off, after re-lubing and cleaning chain. From the following link, I think I need to adjust the barrell adjustor:

Today was the first work day in a while where I DIDN'T ride. As I opened the garage door to leave this morning, the sky also opened up. I was going to ride anyway but my wife came out and encouraged me that I should let her give me a ride. The lightning and thunder also added to that encouragement. So I drove the family van to work, along with my 5 year old son, 9 year old daughter, and wife. My son was in rare form, whining the whole way -- "I'm hungry (as we passed Burger King), turn on some music (as I turned on the news), how far is it, how long, you said we were almost there, I'm hungry, turn on the music". As we pulled until the parking lot at work, my wife asked "Would it have been more relaxing to ride to work in the rain this morning?". I didn't have to answer that one.

Before messing with the adjustor, try cleaning and adding some light grease to the cables. I always save any adjustments as a last resort.

Same sky for me. Rain hadn't started yet so I took off. Half way to the train station the sky looked like a giant green loaf of bread was going to roll over and crush me. Leaves were turning over. Lightning strobes were everywhere. Huge gusts were throwing occasional early splats in my face. I was pedalling like the wicked witch. I barely squeezed under cover at the Naperville station when a lake fell out of that sky.

Hi Balto! Yes, I've been commuting a few days per week, but round trip, which is nice. I sometimes post on the very long commute list, sometimes I don't get around to it. I already reported on today's morning commute, and this evening's was fine. Still no flat tires, but I know I'm riding on borrowed time!

Tomorrow I won't be riding cause I'm renting a car and leaving the big city behind for a few days. Looking forward to next week's Bike-to-Work day. There's a caravan that passes one block away from my house, so I'll pick them up.

Ride home yesterday was hectic. The Reds had an afternoon game that let out about a 1/2 hour before I left. Traffic was a mess. All the backroads were packed because I 75 was jammed full of cars too. The ride sucked.

God I love a tailwind. I think this is the first time I have ever had one on my way to work and that along with some good legs combined to bust my speed record by nearly 2 MPH with an avg speed of 17.3 MPH. Didn't hurt that I hit all the lights green either. Everything was right this morning.

Me too! I think it was my fastest ride to work yet. We'll be paying for that this afternoon!

Back to cool temperatures though. High 30s this morning. Some areas might get into the teens tonight, but not where I live. Too low & close to the lake. Winter's last attempt to hold on. Then it warms up again.

C-c-cold! Like, 2 or 3 degrees celcius. Too cold for the shorts and t-shirt I wore, though I didn't sweat a drop! My arms and legs were pink by the time I arrived at work. I'm still a little chilly, but they always have the A/C cranked so high here...


The commute home yesterday was awesome. Why? The power went out in half the city! While cars were stuck negotiating four-way stops that used to be lights, in rush hour traffic, I breezed by on the sidewalks. I was grinning the whole way home, musing how a single transformer blowout could cause such chaos. Fantastic.

no thunderstorms on the way home yesterday - just bluster and spit. this morning it was a lot cooler (barely 40 °F) and quite windy - mostly from the north, which was helpful on the way in; here's to a calming effect through the afternoon, eh?
