I gave blood last week and have been dragging on my commune and training rides all week.

Been posting my miles over on bikejournal.com with the Bike Forums team: We have steadily moved up and are now in 16th place. Today was the best cycling weather of the week, mostly sunny & about 71F. Saw lots of wildlife this morning. & also rode a ways with another commuter. We chatted a bit about our new bikes before he had to turn off.

Had to work over tonite . But still a good ride to work and home . Have a good nite .

You might remember the radar I posted yesterday. I waited out the worst of it, then left for home. Got wet but not drippingly so. It was pleasant.

This morning I was hunting down a cyclist who's tracks I saw on the dry parts of the trail. Took me about 3 miles but I spotted him and realized I was reeling him in like a little fish. Turned out to be my next door neighbor who was also commuting. We did the rest of the ride together. Got rained on a little bit just as I was arriving at the office.

More thunder storms this afternoon, apparently. Attaching Faraday cage to the Peugeot...

77 °F dry bulb, 68 °F dew point. both of those figures will only increase as the day wears on. nice day for a sweat!

40 degrees and not a cloud in the sky this morning. May hit seventy degrees for the ride home. Not too shabby!

The American Dance Festival is on Duke's campus for 6 weeks every summer, and just started yesterday.
Lots of folks bring their bikes, and this morning, I arrived at my building to discover 6 bikes I had never
seen before locked up outside. I was a little annoyed that 'my spot' was taken on the handrail, but at least
it was a fixie - a pretty sweet-looking Centurion conversion. Maybe I can make some riding buddies with
some hot dancers...

Partial commute today because I had to return a rental car to the airport, which is closer to my office than it is to my house. It took me about 30 minutes to figure out how to get out of the airport complex to the nearby bike trail. That was quite frustrating. I saw a duck with 14 (!) little fuzzy ducklings crossing the trail, that was fun. Then my chain fell off, and again, and again. I finally got it to work but my cleat on my shoe somehow got loose and I could clip in only on one pedal. Luckily I was only a few miles from work, so I just rode slowly and made it, but late.

Is it the weekend yet?

Have you considered donating platelets? It takes a bit longer but you get to keep all your red blood cells and they still give you all the cookies you can eat.

My commute was very pleasant. I swapped saddles and put new tape on the bars last night, so the Daily Bike looks like a brand new machine.

Last night's commute home made a reverse windsock out of me. Whichever direction I turned, I faced a gale-force headwind. I felt like I had just ridden Everest (in which case I want the t-shirt). Come to think of it, there were a few tornado warnings last night...

Just started my commute this week, 16-20 miles one way. The longer oath is all these little windy trails through montgomery country north of DC-though pretty and relaxing, I think with all this rain and mud they will soon be the death of me. I didn't want to turn my beloved and only back into a communting behemoth, so I opted for a chrome courier bag, which has the added benefits of making me feel really cool. I still have more commuting gear to buy, but the ride is the best part of my job.

I commute to my internship everyday, it is no impressive feat as it is only about 2 miles away, however that 2 miles is in downtown boston, so despite the lack of distance, there are plenty of scares. It's a fun fast ride, filled with lots of crafty maneuvers to keep entertained. The best part about commuting is that it makes going to and coming from work so much better. Sometimes I forget how I ever took the train. Kudos too all bicycle commuters.

Oh and to be on topic, the commute today was great, no scares, just speed, lots of fun sprints with my new clipless set up.

A 2 mile commute in Boston is probably a bit like a video game.

Thunder storms avoided me this afternoon. Lots of people out on the trail. I dinged my bell coming up behind a couple of little kids and the mother thanked me. (Karma points? I dunno...)

It's humid as $(@* here. For Vermont, at least. Dewpoint was over 70 degrees. I was fine until I got home and then I started to melt. Jumped into the shower just to cool off.

The commute home was better, and longer than usual because I added 10 miles to get to and from the company picnic.

When I was about a mile from home, a kid on a beat-up BMX bike was riding beside me, and said, "Hey, Miss! You wanna race?" I said that he looked pretty fast, but that I'd race him to the next stop sign.

On your mark, get set, go! He was fast, and he won. A whole porchful of people were cheering us (him, probably) on.

Little moments like that just don't happen when you drive to work!

It was late, late, late: approaching 2am and I was concerned about the bars closing (although it's proabably safer than when the schools are letting out), so I took a more circuitous route home from the Capitol. Down Capitol Mall to Front Street to the Sac. River Trail. No moon and not much traffic on the adjacent I-5, so the trail was black except for my own little tunnel of light. My own little world for a mile or two.

Home safely. And that's really all that counts.

I brought one of our cars in for service at the shop in Falls Church that morning, so I rode the Custis/WO&D trails after work to pick it up. It was a great trip until I had to spend fifteen minutes in the unairconditioned waiting room. That was a lot harder than the 6 mile ride.

Lots of cold beer afterward, though!

A couple days ago, I forgot my keys at work. Fortunately, the building manager had a spare key.

After reading the "Thrown out of Subway" thread, I decided to bring my bike inside a grocery store on my way to work. So I get in the store and it has these little turning "barrier". Too much trouble, I'll just go to the other store. Besides feeling a bit odd, it worked great! I bought some new panniers (Arkel T-42). Open slightly and throw the stuff in. Plus it's easier to pack at the cashier and no need for plastic bags. Grocery shopping made easy. I had vision of dozens of people shopping with their bikes inside.

Got a mirror as well. A mountain Myrricle. I have bar-end shifters so I attached the mirror to the bars with a seatpost light mount. Works nicely though I need a better clamp. The mirror tends to slide down on rough pavement.

Edit: It's very hot lately. I don't mind on my commute but I work night shift so I don't get any decent sleep at home. Since I work long hours (but not many days ), I thought I might as well bring a matress at work and sleep in the basement.

70F degrees but like riding through a steam bath. I was dripping when I got to work. First time that's happened. Right now the humidity is at 87%.

With any luck that tropical storm will blow through and I'll get a few rain-rides this week. Looks like highs are only supposed to be in the 60Fs on Thursday and Friday. What wild swings we've been having here.

Awesome commute this am. Very little wind and 15C although a little humid at 88%. I am glad I could get back on the bike after a weekend of boating and waterskiing and attempting to wakeboard. Seems I forgot how since last year. I need the week to recover from the weekend.

Easy relaxing ride in today. Temps in high 70's with some humidity. Thunderstorms are on the horizon for this afternoon.

Things have really heated up. Commute was very pleasant but will be another cooker on the way home. My weekly mileage has really dropped off, no more nooner rides, keeping the commute to minimum mileage. Heat wave should be over by the end of the week....hopefully

Fantastic commute this morning. Around 55-60F, slight tailwind most of the way until it turned around and became a headwind for the last 2 miles. No traffic issues, plenty of courteous drivers, and even with the full Monday load (laptop + associated gear, clothes, shoes etc) the legs were feeling strong and I powered up the hills. I spent some time on the weekend giving whole drivetrain a good tune and clean - could really feel the difference!

air was 70 °F, dewpoint 70 °F. don't need a weatherman to calculate the relative humidity! you gotta love arlene...if i didn't know i was in michigan i would swear the pineapple express had arrived. riding in warm, light rain was actually fine; it was the 10-knot headwind that got to me after a while. but it is still the best way to start the day!
