It was a cool change, both ways. The morning temperature was in the high 60s and the evening in the mid 70s. Brautiful, sunny, dreamlike.

My commute home took about 10 minutes. Thats pretty fast for 3 miles. The bad thing is on the way home my light died on the way home. Did not see the usual characters out on a friday night. Have a good night.

Hey buddies,
Out of ten opportunities to go to and from work this week I biked it 7 times. Last 2 weeks, 6 times each. My commute is 17 miles each way. I feel great and everyone around is real supportive. I just wanted to say how inspiring you guys are to me and I thank you for helping me better myself. I wish you all swift, safe, and sunny commuting. See ya, Greg |
Sunday morning, almost no traffic, mild weather, easy 8 mile ride in.
Great. The ride back this afternoon will be more scenic. 18 to 24 miles, depending on time, mostly on stream valley trails and single tracks. (update - Riding back later than I intended. Had to cut return ride short to 9 miles, but did take the hillier route.) |
Low 50Fs and sunny. Nice and crisp. I stopped and watching something swimming in the lake. It had a long neck, a snakelike head, and a large body like a dinosaur.
Actually I think it was just a beaver or a musk rat. It was too far out for me to see clearly. |

Vtjim, sounds like the Champlain equiv of Nessie! I forget the name of the beast on Champlain, but it exists. (or I should say they).

My first commute today! Left at 5:45, sun, 49 deg F, clear, great ride, quiet, real nice!!!
|
Great ride in this morning. Nice and cool and not a lot of traffic. The tempature is supposed to rise all this week. The end of the week it is going to be some hot sweaty rides for me.
|
Temps in the 60's, headwind and overcast therefore an almost ideal commute into work. Nothing out of the ordinary was seen on the trip in.

incredible weather for this time of the year. I was actually a little chilly this AM. I'm backing off my speed and spend some commuting miles as recovery rides. Too many miles at too fast a speed have killed my legs. Congrats Javan on your first commute.

Perfect weather for a backpack commuter -- mid 60s (backpack keeps me a little warmer). Low idiot count (nearly zero, amazing!). Also, I tagged along with a pair of roadies for a while in Central Park to check on the calibration of my cyclocomputer. I initially used a variation of the "roll-out method" because there's no "standard" setting for my folder's fancy wheels/tires. Comparing computer numbers showed my number to be reasonably accurate with respect to this roadie's computer.
So now I have a good notion of how far my commute is: about 8.5 miles on the way to work (different route on the way back, but should be roughly the same). Now it's a matter of time before we move Downtown (from Midtown) so the commute distance should increase to about 12+miles before long. It will be nice to get ~120miles of riding per week "for free", so to speak. :D |
Fifty one degrees and a light breeze on the way in, made for a nice ride. Upper eighties by the time I head home, ugh...
|
Its gonna be a warm one going home today. Currently 111 F, with a matched "feels like" temp of 111 F. Add hot cars on black pavement and my office cold fingers will warm up pretty quick.

Beautiful weather. High 50Fs and sunny.
I stopped at at end of my road and a roadie went by. Clipless, tights, jersey, etc. We exchanged greetings. I had just started out so I told myself I wasn't going to even attempt to keep up. Eventually it was clear that I was going to catch up whether I wanted to or not. I didn't want to pass though so I took up residence about 50 feet behind him and stayed there all the way in to Burlington. 18-20MPH, slowing for stop signs. Fun ride. Wasn't anybody here was it? Didn't look like a commuter except the pockets in the back of his jersey were stuffed with things. |
here we have 69 °F at 8:16 a.m. (dew point is 59 °F), calm winds. excellent conditions for riding, perhaps a tad humid. i had more than my usual share of close calls, however. why is it that the more people depend on their cars the worse they are at driving them? this is not right.

Again great weather. Only one true idiot on the road: I normally zoom down Broadway from the light at 57th all the way to 44th catching all the lights, but today that almost didn't happen because some idiot taxi driver decided to pull out from the curb around 47th St. at an extreme angle at high speed. Very scary moment -- the guy almost hit me despite the fact that I was two lanes away in the middle of B'way! I swear I heard my voice echo as I screamed a nasty phrase likening the driver to a body part. I don't know WTF he had in mind, but I didn't stick around long enough to find out (and I still made all the lights dang it!)

Cool morning, easy ride in, motorist very cooperative with no horns blowing. Am enjoying my commutes more and more. ;)

I had a nice and cool ride. The rain just stopped about an hour or so before I left the house. I stopped by the only gas station on my route with an air pump and it ate my quarters. There were some laborers filling up gas at a pump and saw my troubles and they had an air pump on a generator in the back of their pickup and let me fill up. How nice was that?
|
My ride in was charmed, I made a PB of 1:25 from my house...22.4 miles. Weather was bliss, traffic parted like the red sea...I had so much fun that I almost did not stop for my work. The UK weather today was ideal for the long commute....almost can't wait to get back on bike to ride home :)

Fifty-five degrees on the morning of the official start of summer. Idiot count, (I like that!) 1. Some assclown didn't feel like getting into the other lane and passed me rather closely. Jerk.
|
I'd gotten up early and ridden a hard 20 mile loop on the roadie at dawn. After a shower and dressing for work, it was a nice easy spin to the office. Very easy ride in on The Bomber ('89 GT mtb). I'm enjoying it more and more, as it forces me to go slow, sit up and enjoy the beautiful NorCal morning.

My commute this morning consisted of a close call and what I like to call the "Highly Motivated Fist".
Close call occurred on a stretch of road I complained about on here a couple weeks ago (Don't recall if it was the commuter forum or advocacy forum.). Since posting that, it seems that stretch of road has, for some reason, gotten much less threatening. Haven't had many cars, or gravel trucks buzzing me at all the past couple weeks, and the traffic has even seemed to be lighter. This morning I got a rude reminder that it's still a sketchy stretch of road. I'm riding along probably about 6 - 12 " to the left of the fog line, where the road curves to the left after crossing a bridge. There's a spur right in the apex of the corner such that if you go straight/right you'll be on a small side road that leads to the next cross street just east of the major intersection that the main road leads to. Cars take this road to get to a nearby subdivision while avoiding the major intersection. All of a sudden there's a car on my left cutting across in front of me to get into that other lane. Classic right-hook. I managed to slow enough that she barely missed me, after which I begain screaming and gesturing madly. Saw a look of horror on another driver's face who witnessed the near miss. Dunno if she was horrified by my near-maiming or by my language ;). I've managed to calm down somewhat, but the *really* close calls still set me off. Completely lost my cool and hammered down to the light and took a right (my usual route goes straight) to catch the driver who I knew would most likely be stopped at a red where that other street comes out. Rode up to her car and proceeded to ask (Ok, yell.) "WTF were you trying to do? Kill me?", and she informed me that she was "trying to get into that lane". Yeah, no ****, right through me. Having vented my anger I went along my merry way, at an adrenalin-accelerated pace. Grateful to still be rolling, but still pretty angry. Couple miles later, having pretty much cooled off by this point, I encountered a crossing-guard/public safety officer/or whatever the heck those guys are, at an intersection near an Indian gaming casino that's along my route. I've seen this guy before and he's pretty cool. Whenever he sees me ride by he says "Highly motivated!". Did the same thing this morning and pumped his fist in the air while saying it. Had to sorta chuckle at that. At least they're not all trying to kill me... -Trevor |
On the way in to work this morning I ran over a chipmunk. I was doing probably about 20 MPH and he just ran right out there and I had no chance to slow down. I hit him with both tires too. But when I looked back, he was still running, so I hope he's OK.
|
I shaved seven minutes off my round-trip commute strictly because I had a bike fit Friday and my seat was raised nearly five inches! My hills were flatter today! ;)
