I had a very nice ride in today. It was in the 50's, which made for a comfortable ride.
On my last commute, on the way home, I had a rough time. More jerks than I have ever had in one trip. Laborers roll down the window to point and laugh at the idiot on the bike (I have no where to go, it is a red light), an elderly couple on my rear end honking, repeatedly, so I would move into the right turn lane even though I was going straight When I took my bike on the train downtown (7:30 p.m.) some couple asks me "Does MARTA allow you to take your bike on during rush hour?" I say "yes" and they say, "Well, in Washington D.C. you certainly could not." Oh well, the nice thing on a bike is that encounters are brief in duration and I still feel good about cutting down on traffic and getting sunshine, fresh air and exercise. |
Very pleasant this morning. I actually got out of the house at a decent time so I spun easily and arrived at the office cool and dry. It's going to be a very long day at work today but I'm so glad it's gotten off to the best start possible.

Beautiful day to ride in San Jose. Just cruise along past the airport around 6:30, then up First Street all the way to work. Not many cars out at that time. Fresh Air, sunshine and blue skies. What more could I ask for.

Fine commute this morning. All the lights were green. One little tick. Coming up to a red, I was perhaps 4th in line. I usually move to the center of the lane before stopping, but as I was slowing down a car approached to my left and passed me before I reached the end of the line. No biggie. He ended up turning right at the light. This however, confirmed that motorists will sometimes attempt a right hook if I don't move to the center to prevent it. I'm sure if the light were green and I stayed to the right, he would have right-hooked me.

Nice weather this morning. Sunny and cool. Great after days of rain. Only one jacka$$ this morning. I was stopped at a red light, in the bike lane, waiting to go straight. A car pulled up behind me, in the bike lane and honked. I turned my head to acknowledge that I heard him but ignored him otherwise. He started screaming out his window that he was turning right. I shouted back, "Good for you." He continued to scream at me to get out of his way. As the light turned green I departed. As he was still screaming I shouted that he should re-read his driver's handbook. I know, I should have just ignored him but idiots that him just chap my a$$.

I ride 13 miles to a bus stop, store my bike in a parked car and bus to work. This is my second week cycle commuting. Monday was raining so I wused out. The weather man says it’ll try to rain all week so on Tuesday I left the car and pedaled home.
This morning I poked my head out to discover that it was raining. Since my car was already 13 miles away I figured - grit and go. I put rain gear on and rubbers over my shoes. It wasn’t all that bad! In fact the rain stopped and the dawn came up behind the clouds about half way there and it was beautiful. The Pa country always looks best when it’s wet. I always feel better when I can pedal to work. – Rain or shine! |
A rather unique commute this morning. What I thought was a jogger in a brown track suit turned out to be two deer. Took a few minutes to get by them, the doe was very curious about what I was. Then the bike trail was closed for tree removal. So back tracked onto the main road, where traffic was bump and grind. The road paralled the river at this point, where the two deer and three deer friends were having thier morning drink. I stopped to watch, as the traffic ground on oblivious to this. Yet another detour as the main road to the transit center was blocked by construction. Some sidewalk riding and alley short-cuts got me there than traffic.

Good rides this week. Yesterday I got caught out in a heavy thundershower. The rain must have gotten my blood flowing because I felt super strong during the ride. Today I saw that the N.C. Dept. of Transportation finally got around to actually doing work on a bridge on my route which forces a four mile detour. My commute is 16 miles now, guess I'll just leave earlier and get home later.

Good ride to work and home . But still not a great day at work . Have a good day .

Brake and engine troubles commuting on my rental catrike. The disc brakes still seem to be rubbing, even though I thought I had adjusted them properly last time. Argh! So, for half the trip I was pushing against more friction than usual, which my legs did not like. I arrived late at work because of the mechanical pit-stops and my pooped legs. Luckily I work in a building where they manufacture stuff, I should be able to bum some washers and a 5mm alan wrench.

Wet! (again)
Between driving in a warm dry car, and riding in the rain... I'll take riding... I'm funny that way. |
The sun hath returned. After 3 days of rain commuting it is nice to see ole man sun again. Beautiful AM commute

Sunny and cool at 35 degrees, windchill around 29 again for the ride in. We are suppose to be in the mid seventies this afternoon so that ought to make the ride home nice.

Cool and a little bit breezy this morning. My laptop and shoes were already at the office, so I rode the roadie today... got here a little bit faster, and am looking forward to taking the much longer way home!

A nice morning today - a cool 76 deg with light traffic.
Yesterday I left work at 3:30 and my bike thermo hit 109.3 deg. I like it. Al |

Well that's about 62 degrees warmer than my ride this morning. :p I saw the funniest thing today. First of all, I was tracking an MTB on the trail. I saw tracks in the wet, so I wanted to catch up to it. I'm really glad I did. Took me about 4 miles but I caught him. The guy was riding with what looked like a very heavy-duty rack on the back. Attached to the rack was a milk crate. Strapped to the crate was some hefty wooden object made out of some 2x4s and plywood. It seemed secure but it was kind of leaning back and forth as he moved. I have no idea what it was. On the bike bridge over the river, he was getting the thing within inches of the railings and completely freaking me out. Then he'd drift back toward the center. I didn't even attempt a pass until we got out into the residential streets where I had room. |
Just an all around nice day: nothing but sunshine allday long; 52F at 6am, low 70s at lunchtime & 89F at 3:30 PM when my shift ended. Took a detour to the barber shop & got a haircut on the way home. Torelli for the morning loop & Bianchi in the afternoon. Supposed to be hot again tomorrow.

This evening I rode my bicycle to class. On the way I heard plastic fall off of my bike and into the intersection. I pulled off and realized it was my little Planet Bike front light. One of the little clip on types.
So I turned around and there it was in the middle of one of Chicago's famous six-corner intersections. My thoughts of retrieval were immediately smashed by a large black SUV. Despite this, I thought I could salvage some of it, like the little battery rolling away. Nope, a green Toyota took care of that! And to my bemusement, four more cars rolled over the remaining pieces, as if it were a staged comedy : ( Sigh, perhaps I'll just have to get the hub generator that much sooner : ) Still, it was nice to be out on my bike on such a nice evening. |
Good ride to work ,but on the way home I was in the dark industrial area of the city .When some guy come out of the dark . From about 20 feet away and say I need to talk to you man . So I said No man .I do not need to talk to you . I just kept going . You see alot of weird thing and people out at nite . Have a good nite .

49 degrees at 7:15 when I left my house this AM. The ubiquitous headwind was there, but this is my third week of commuting and it hasn't failed me yet, so I'm getting used to it. Well, sort of. My evening ride was just about perfect. It had warmed up to 65 and I had a nice tailwind for most of the climbs. I took the long way home. :)

A fine 12 C when I left this morning, I think that's just about perfect for riding in. It had rained the night before, but the roads were dry already. However, it may rain this afternoon, so I took my regular bike instead of the Catrike. I'm faster on my regular bike, and if the rain is really bad I can still call for a pick-up. I can't fit the Catrike in my car!

Another high 40Fs commute. Stunningly enough, no rain! Overcast and damp though. I came up behind a guy on an MTB in work clothes. He kept riding with his hands in his pockets. Guess they were cold. Always takes mine a mile or two to warm up. |
