Nice to see such good weather for so many. Our weather(and ride) is perfect in the Mid-Atlantic region. Last night was really warm, 80F. This morning was pleasant, hope to get a nooner in. Y'all have a great 3 day weekend, ride hard.

cicadashell 05-27-05 07:07 AM

another splendid ride, although the wind has turned, now blowing in my face on the way in. still, rain has held off and it's wonderful, as always, to be on the bicycle.

bikebuddha 05-27-05 07:12 AM

I came in a little bit later today so the traffic pattern was a little different than what I'm used to. Fine weather but my legs decided they wanted to go all squishy on me by the time I got to the steepest part of the last hill. If someone had been riding with their window down they would have heard me screaming at myself to get over this hill.

Been lurking for a while. Unable to commute this week because of nor'easter stalled overhead. Very heavy rains and very high winds forced me to drive all week. If I were closer to home I probably would ride to work every day. However, I drive 30 miles first and commute the last 10. I did more in Jan and Feb than I do now. Lots of evening rides with groups and friends. I'm going to start alternating between the commutes and group rides.

Being a social butterfly is a lot of work.

A good week's riding this week, despite one or two incidents. I managed the daftest maintainence mistake in a long time after cleaning the the bike's chain and sprockets. Refitted the rear wheel and forgot the close the QR. I did not notice until, on reaching home and lifting the bike to put her away, there was the feintest rattle.... No harm done!

Cheers & have a good weekend folks,

Ed

After being laid up with the flu last week, and the abysmal weather this week, today was my first bike commute in almost 2 weeks. I really wanted to bike today, despite the prediction of some afternoon thunderstorms, and with the weather a perfect 58 degrees, I couldn't resist.

Without pushing myself, I set a new record time for the 9 mile commute. I did go a little bit of a different way for the last 2 miles, taking me around the city outskirts to my office rather than through, which probably shaved some time, as I only had 2 intersections and no traffic lights to deal with for that part. It will definately be the way I go to work in the future.

If it rains this afternoon, I'll let my wife come get me tonight and come back tomorrow for the bike.

the largest construction project in my city is underway and completely ****s up my commute for the next 2+ years. contemplating caging it from now on. very disappointed and depressed with it.

Spudz 05-27-05 08:12 AM

Another cool start to the morning, 37 degrees w/c of 30, but bright and sunny. Found an easier way to deal with a left hand turn in traffic on the ride home last night, so that was nice.

Stubacca 05-27-05 09:19 AM

Took the 20 mile route home last night... I was on the roadie with only a small backpack and had a great ride. The legss were feeling strong, and I would have gone for more distance but I had to get home and get a few things done in the yard.

This morning I was back on my Surly. Had a great ride in - the hills didn't feel like hills, and I was at least 2 gears higher the whole way than I was for my painful ride on Tuesday!

No riding for me this weekend (going to San Francisco), so I think I'll take the longer way home again... :D

bcritch 05-27-05 09:58 AM

I had a great ride in today got into the office bright and early and had a nice breakfast.

Day 2 on the new Salsa Las Cruces. I'm starting to get the hang of the campy shifters but I still tried to bend the break levers once thinking it was Shimano. The rear disk squeals a little. With a nice tail wind I was cruising about 21mph, felt nice. The construction next to the bike path is a pain. The spot where all the trucks cross over the path on top of the levy is all crushed down and rutted. So in their infinite wisdom they just poured a bunch on new asphalt down and now it is rutted and sticky with loose asphalt everywhere.

I was able to take a nice 14 mile detour this morning: Freeport Blvd, south past Executive Airport, to Pocket Road, big loop of the Pocket area, and then Riverside back into Downtown. Perfect riding weather with a jersey and armwarmers. Saw a handful of other commuters and the motorists were respectful and well-behaved. A good start to the day.

mjw16 05-27-05 10:18 AM

Great weather plus a slight tailwind. I cruised easily at 18/19 and hit 30 on the downhill side of one of the overpasses by the airport. Hope to sneak out a little early today and will ride this weekend, some road, some dirt-sweet. Also planning on checking out the race in Clarendon and shooting some pix. Have a great weekend!

56F at 6AM, 80F by lunch time & it topped 90F this afternoon. For today's wakeup alert, I survived a close call this morning: bike lane has 2 lanes of traffic left plus a freeway on ramp/merge lane to my right after crossing the intersection of Martin Way & College St. Its a slight downhill, so I was moving right along. Gal in a little rice burner looked right at me from about 5' away as I paced her at 26 mph then swung left & gunned it across the bike lane, the lane to my left & into the fast lane! I swerved & ended up in the middle of the street yelling at her & shaking my fist. Guess we really are invisible! Have a great holiday weekend! Don

Working weekends is bittersweet. Doing something else would be much better, but the money is good too.

I haven't commuted much since the blizzard back in February. Got plenty of riding done, but not the commuting type, which made this commute surprisingly quick and easy.

Today was pretty good if I say so myself. Refreshingly cool at the beginning and took the hills without a huff. Being in much better condition, the ride was quite a bit quicker, So.... I rode around a bit before headding into the office. Usually a 9.5 mile ride ended up just under 12. Nice.

No work tomorrow and wifey wants to go for a long ride in Little Compton RI.

Perhaps a degree or two warmer, and the temperature would have been perfect. Other than that, a great ride and I think a bit faster than normal too.

I find myself imagining what the ride would be like on a trike, though...

rguysailing 05-30-05 12:30 PM

Just something to ponder...
I was riding into work last Friday and was going through the park. It just so happens there are about 30 pigions in the road as always.

They took off before I got there and flew to the left and as I peddled under them the flew back to the right and I recived a message from one of them in my lap :-(

So the mystery to ponder is,,,,, "why do the pigions take off in one direction and then come back the other way when you ride under them....."

jeff-o 05-31-05 05:28 AM

Cool again at about 8 C, and overcast. Temp up to 22 in the afternoon, with a 30% chance of thunderstorms. Hmmm, I hope I don't get caught in that...

capejohn 05-31-05 05:54 AM

Uneventfull 10.2 mile commute from mall (where I leave my car). Foggy and cool.

bikebuddha 05-31-05 05:54 AM

Cool, humid, and slow. :(

vtjim 05-31-05 05:54 AM

Second non-rainy commute in a row!

Lots of litter on the trail from the Marathon that took place here in Burlington on Sunday. Empty cups. Spent packets of "gu". You'd think they could at least clean up after themselves.

Last year people complained to the local newspaper. I guess the hint wasn't taken.

Spudz 05-31-05 08:14 AM

Ouch! My quads are still achy from a half marathon on Sunday. Left the house a bit early and just took it slow. Beautifully clear sunrise, cool temps heading for the mid sixties later.

DerekU2 05-31-05 09:07 AM

Back in the saddle after a one week vacation from work where the weather afforded me little oppurtunity for even a recreational ride. However, I did take the oppurtunity to get my ride tuned and the transmission cleaned. I also got an Arkel Bug Pannier for my Birthday. All of this made the ride in this morning very enjoyable.

I no longer watch my rear wheel wabble as I ride. When I turn the shifter, the chain actually moves. I'm a bit faster than I was a week ago. No more bungie-ing my old backpack to the rack. I'm loving life!

Hickabod 05-31-05 09:58 AM

Today's commute had a frustrating start, as my dog got out of the fence and chased me up the street. After getting her back in the yard and patching the hole in the fence, I picked up the pace and made it on time for work.

It was very foggy. I could see fine, but I was glad to have my blinker on the back.

byzantium 05-31-05 12:51 PM

I commute in Chicago everyday. It's not that far to work (only 3 miles each way) but the satisfaction I get from whipping by all the cars stuck in traffic is just as enjoyable as the ride itself.
