Commute today was good, but my legs are just beat. I rode an extra 20 or so on Monday and played Ultimate, then added an extra couple of hilly miles to the commute Tuesday and Wednesday to visit my daughter at day care. The result is....I'm tired. I'm even using the middle ring on my triple--normally I ride the big ring all the time. :( |
ItsJustb,
This was in RTP not Cary. I was making a right turn onto Development Dr from Louis Stevens (between hwy 55 and Davis drive a bit north of the Cisco campus). There are only 3 businesses on Development Dr (Ericsson, Sony-Ericsson, and one other, figure less than 1000 employess total). Lots of people uses Dev Dr as a cut through between HWY55 and Davis Dr. |
Almost got hit by a cager turning right last night. As he went past me I saw a turn signal. I hit the brakes and he started his turn. He then realized just how fast I was going and hit the brakes angled in front of me. If I hadn't seen the signal I would have been toast.

I was right-hooked by another bike commuter last night. He alerted me by saying 'passing on the left' and then immediately after he passed me, he slowed down for a right turn. Argh!

Nice.Pretty cool ride,I had to do some extra km today.New road for me about 50 km
before lunch. In the way back two roadies passed me at a moderate pase so i could ride behind them for a while and have a breack.sunny, sea side road almost flat cool. |
Mine:
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=340939 I encountered the aftermath of a police chase and had to detour quite a bit. Hopefully nothing happens on my way home. |
almost lost my head this morning. literally.
a painter's pickup truck pulled in front of me. i followed it for maybe a block, taking the full lane behind it before it came to a sharp stop at a crosswalk. i hit the brakes with plenty of space left, put my foot down, then looked up to see the end of an unflagged ladder about three inches from my nose. so, just a reminder to the drivers out there: if you have something sticking out the back of your vehicle, put some red on the end! |
Most excellent. Besides the gnarly tailwind that had me cruising near 25MPH at one point, I had a chat with a commuter cyclist at a red light. He thanked me for riding and said he wished more people did. I said I agreed with him. We also griped about tomorrow's weather forecast. (90+F!)

Good rides today, first since I had a break of 5 days. Felt fine. Got myself into a tight squeeze splitting lanes, but was able to back out before the two vehicles touched me - silly move by me (wanted to get ahead while they were still stationary on a green, gap was too small, they started moving, I decided to pullback and duck right rather than chance it vs. a car and truck).
Got my oregon scientific camera delivered today, so I used it tonight and did some tests. Needs some more testing for positioning, but once tweaked, I'll be youtub'ing one up there, and if I feel really bored, I'll edit it down, too! ;) |
Well today I uped my average 2 MPH.. I added a rack and side bas made the ride a lot easier for me!
|
Muggy this morning - gonna be a hot one today.
Added my front light setup last night. I'm sure everyone can see me now :D Now to just get the rear light bracket installed and I'll be all set. I'll post pics when it's all done. |
Pleasant commute this morning, a little cooler than usual with low humidity. I took it easy and barely sweated. The shorter days are really starting to become apparent. I left about 5 minutes earlier than usual, and it was nearly dark. A big old orange basketball of a sun was just coming over the horizon when I got to work. I didn't ride yesterday after 6 days straight and my legs appreciated the rest day.
|
25-30MPH headwind blowing off the lake this morning. I plowed through it and made average time. Kind of surprising. It's 70F and humid. Weather says low 90s today. Yikes. I goofed around with the GPS I mentioned in another thread. Its speed matched my bike computer speed, so that's good.

Passed a single speeder on a downhill and fought the urge to ridicule.
Then I was being a good "vehicular" biker on campus by not flying by all the cars stopping for students in crosswalks. Of course they didn't care to jaywalk in front of me when I had a left turn light. About 2 minutes later was waiting behind a car again and heard a squeal of tires and realized that I was 2 inches from being rear-ended. Closest thing I have to an accident in 4 years of commuting. |
Head was woozy since I played Stranglehold till 1:00 am, and then my 4-year old jumped on me at 6:00 am, and told me he wanted to play. I really need some anti-Tequila time this morning. The weather on the ride in was nice and cool though. I just hope the air clears up today from the local wildfires.

Headwind both ways yesterday, and a strong one on the way in this morning. But didn't get caught in the rain. Only one other bike on the rack at work, so I'm guessing the others were scared off by the rain forecast.
|
I saw my breath this morning for the first time in months. Fall is comin'! I shortcut through the alley to avoid some traffic, then made lights 1, 3 and 4 with no problems. I think they have changed the timing on lights 2 and 4...

Nice ride in today. 4 days 'off' next week, bummer.
|
Good ride, uploaded the video here (youtube has to wait, this is publically viewable for anyone on facebook though)
http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=13406940547 Still testing stuff (angles/aim). |
Stayed home yesterday with a short (hopefully) bout of flu. So I took it very easy this morning. And it was a nice mellow ride in.
I gave an ironic thumbs-up to a JAM in a craptastic Lincoln Town Car. She blew right through a stop sign at the top of the park. Obviously the irony was lost on her because she waved back with a big cow-like smile. |
I checked radar this mourning, looked clear. So I rode in. Half way into my route it started to rain hard. First time I got caught in the rain when it was dark out. Had a hard time seeing the road because I wear glasses. Next time I will avoid riding in the rain at night.

It feels so good to be back on the bike after being sick for a couple days. The bummer is that I had just done a drive-train upgrade to increase my top-end speed on DH's. I hit 48.9. It's good to be back.
|
Have ridden every day this week and feel very good. Morning temps are getting really nice into the 50's.
Went out for a ride during my lunch hour and it was headwind everywhere I turned to. But it's Friday and sunny so I'll take it. :) GreenAnvil |
Stiff headwind this morning. Almost got to work when the skies dumped on me and I got totally soaked. Changed my clothes/shoes and clean/lube the chain.

For the Lake Champlain crew...
The morning was beautiful. I rode along the lake at 5 am, too early for the sun to rise, but you could see the waves on the lake, feel the breeze (head wind.) But I tell you it was a wonderful way to start the day. Overall 15 miles each way. In contrast I almost freaking died on the way home. It was soooooo hot... And a strong head wind. Why does it change directions like that? I was so happy at work. By mile 7 I was wiped. I think it was in the 90's.. Anyway, nothing that a cold beer and a good nites sleep can't fix... i'm hoping.
