What a great thread. I've been lurking over in the fixed gear forum for awhile, and just stumbled across this. Been commuting for about a year, ~3 days a week, except for winter when I couldn't get myself motivated.
This morning was a little chilly, but nothing a few layers didn't fix. Otherwise, sunny and no troublesome winds. The highlight was riding 12 miles, through 27 stoplights, and my feet never touched the pavement. I got lucky with green lights, but I've also been working on trackstands, and managed to pull them off when I needed to. They weren't pretty, but they were functional, so I'm happy. :) I can't wait for ride home. |
Had a nice ride in today. It still might rain this evening but I dragged along my raingear. I got to talk to a new commuter. He started on Monday for Million Mile May. I've been doing some extra miles after work to try to get to 1200 miles for this month, 203 down so far. See you all out there.

Today's commute was great, due to the fact that I am finally back to commuting after a 3 week hiatus, and then finally getting off my butt and fixing my chain. Great commute today. I had two wierd "run-ins", basically a runner had yelled at me to give her warning while turning a corner: I couldn't see her, and she was in the BIKE LANE!
And then a bird almost attacked me on the trail near work. Ahh, 'tis good to be back in saddle. |

55F Drizzle but calm. Excellent ride now that I fixed that rock'n, roll'n, dragging fender :D

Just picked up the bike from the LBS, fed the dog, then took off for a little ride. The weather was great and the bike is smooth as butter. I'm actually looking forward to getting up to go to work in the morning. I can't believe I just thought that. :D

I hope the cycling gods are reading this and things will work out so I can ride to work today. The weather is supposed to be fabulous!! I think spring is finally on it's way back. The temperatures are near normal for early May. The ride in was great. I seemed a little stronger (aka less tired) at the top of some of the hills this morning and on the way home. Maybe the endorphins were flowing a little heavier  since I got to ride rather than drive. Here's to another fabulous ride tomorrow. |
The way home was fine (no flat tire!). Got home in time to spend some time with my flowers, which are blooming (finally!)
|
Nice li'l rainshowers on the way home. Yay for Freddy Fenders, I still got wet but they cut down on the "misery" component dramatically (mud/water flicked up into face)
Put my bike up on the stand and wiped it dry. Can't have a week-old bike gettin' rusty! NWS was talking maybe funnel clouds for tomorrow but it seems to have dropped off the AFD. Anybody biked to work in a tornado before? :) |

Good ride to work & home . Still a little chilly out today . Have a good nite .

Got home in one piece on my second commute and dealt with a little rain toward the tail end (a sprinkle). To alter a quote from the movie "Say Antyhing":
"The Rain on my helmet is a baptism..." |
A beautiful sunrise this morning...
http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16.../SR5_5ev-2.jpg and nobody on the bike trail except me :) To top it all off, I have the "Guard" dog sleeping under my desk :D http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...tu/DogDesk.jpg |
Pretty decent ride home last night. No wind, warmer temps (low 60's) and light traffic.
Ride in this morning was pleasant. No wind, temps in the low 40's and again light traffic. Enjoyed the morning and took my time coming in. |

great AM commute. temps mid 40'sF, woods are in full bloom, lots of great smelling flowers wisteria, viburnum to name a cuople. Even saw a fox

Nice easy pace on the ride in this morning. The old legs still felt very tired after Tuesday's ride. Sunny and 45F with no wind. Can't ask for much nicer conditions around here.
|
Yet another sunny ride in the 30Fs today. Beginning to get monotonous! :)
|
I took it nice and easy in today as well. Last night was Wed Worlds race ride and my legs felt like tree trunks this morning. But as usual I was nice and stretched out by the time I got to work. Now back to work :(

I'm in week three of my commute, and I was able to really work hard almost the whole ride today. Only had to slow down a couple times. I can definitely feel the improvement in my legs...
I also really enjoy the shortcut I found through this little county park. I ride into the park through the back of a neighborhood, around a bike/jogging path, then down this long gravel fire-truck-only-road that leads out into the back of a different neighborhood. I'm the only one there in the morning (in the afternoon there are often some guys playing soccer in the grassy area). I saw a rabbit on Tuesday... and there are some really nice-smelling trees blooming in the park. And best of all, it eliminates like 5 intersections from my route. Makes me glad I bought a hybrid though, I don't think I could ride on the gravel very well with road bike tires. |
Wow, it sure was nice to ride to work this morning without gloves and a hat under my helmet. I took a longer way in this morning and did a eight mile lunch run loop and grabbed a sandwich. It's 70F now, a little windy but nice. I'll probably take the long way home. Spring has finally returned.

Foggy but a nice ride in ... no view of Mt. Rainer in almost a week.

Great commute today. It was actually in the 40s. (After being in the 30s every morning this week.)
Something amusing happened. I had barely started my ride when some guy on a mountain bike came out of the woods onto the road behind me. I was keeping an eye on him in my rear-view. He was sort of hunched over and looking all serious. I just kept going normally and he kept pace behind me. Approaching a stop sign. As I usually do, I slow down so I can stop if necessary. MTB rider blows by me and through the stop sign. "Okay", I thought, "I'll play cat & mouse with him." I followed him down a hill and onto the trail. We got to a slight incline and he began to lose speed so I dropped him and put a bunch of distance between us. Next stop sign coming up. I slow down and I see he's rapidly overtaking. No cars coming, so I hit the pedals and deny him a flyby. Put some distance back between us. Yet another stop sign. This one I have no peripheral views so I kind of have to slow down substantially before I'm sure it's safe to cross. This gives the guy ample time to overtake, and he does, and blows through that stop too. I decided to stop playing leap frog and just paced him a few bike lengths back. He got agressive on the pedals a few times but I just hung out behind him. Eventually he turned off on a road. Giving up? Not sure. :p |
Great ride this morning. Set new personal best average speed (had a nice tail wind) :)
Second day with my new Marin Novato... replacement for my stolen Larkspur. The Novato is a blast to ride - very responsive/maneuverable. Still very paranoid about getting it stolen - tucked it away in the office underground parkade. |
