How was the commute today?

No commute today because I'm straight off to Lyle Lovett and his Large Band right after work tonight! Then on Monday off to Austin for a couple of weeks vacation. And Lance just won his 7th Tour. I'm all about Texas right now.

Nice temperatures again today, very low winds and humidity. Makes a happy VT commuter. This is the VT summer I had been hoping for! Let it continue...Made some front derailleur adjustments yesterday, and lengthened the ride home to 15 miles through some bucolic environs. Gotta see that again after work today!

What a nice ride. Gray skies, wet road, misty drizzle and in the 70's. It has been quite a stretch of time of high tempratures and humidity. Today's ride was a nice relief!

I have a rather short commute (less than 2 miles). However, last night I lifted weights (a leg workout) and
my legs were aching the whole way....lol

Ugh. My legs felt like they were made of stone this morning. Normally I wouldn't care on a Friday but I'm racing this weekend. I think I better cancel my ride tomorrow morning.
I had a really nice ride with very low traffic because a train was stopped across 21st Street, blocking all those cars coming up from Freeport. Too bad for them. Nice for me.

I have to add something to today's report. Having taken the longer-but-more-car-free route to work today with the wife, we went down a very steep descent to get to the Greenway in our 'hood (I usually pick it up 4-5 miles into the ride in the morning). It made me realize just how lazy (and stupid?) I've been about maintaining my brake cable tension. So I took some time today at work to unfold the bike and do some cable adjustment (I'd already maxed-out the adjustment knobs on the levers). Good thing I carry my multi-tool with me just about every day!

No commute today but I did have to run a few errands but the weather was cooler than it has been all week so I turned it into a longer ride. Pedaling back from midtown it started to rain a little and when I turned up paces mill I got my second wind and flew up the hill. Stopped by the library in Vinnings before heading home the whole time thinking what a great ride, except traffic on weekends is just as crazy if not crazier than the weekdays.

Yesterday I got in my first real commute of the year. Did the 12 miles both ways and felt great. Also nice to notice that some of the worst roads have been repaved since I last biked it. The weather was good, and my back seems to have taken it well. I'm shooting for a few weeks of once-a-week before building up to every-day again.

Good weather today, overcast and low 60's. The big change in the commute is that I bought a cat eye cycle computer. Today's commute was 1.86 miles and I did that in 10 minutes and 47 seconds. Top speed was 20.0 mph on a screaming twisting down hill.

A stereotype in real life: On 21st Street for several blocks this morning I rode behind and alongside a petite 30-something blond woman at the wheel of an immense Chevy Tahoe paying intermittent attention to the road as she dialed her mobile phone.
At least she wasn't trying to drink or apply her makeup at the same time....

After driving home to meet my gf for lunch, I rode my bike back to work. Had a nice ride, but rode into a strong headwind the whole way here. Hopefully I have a nice tail wind on the way home, but knowing my luck it will be blowing at me...

They finished some construction on campus, and opened up the access point I used to take,
which had been closed for around 6 months. The best part about it is the new path they
installed, replacing the old one which had busted-up concrete and a b*tch of a hill.
I had been waiting forever for the construction to be done, my detour had me taking some
less-friendly roads in to work. Jeez, I'm such a dork... excited about a strip of asphalt

Tuesday 6am and still very cool air coming from the north, 8 deg C .
Had to avoid the young rabbits on the downhills this morning, not good at 48km.
They dart out from the verges so quick like they were waiting for me!!
Not one car today in 9 miles. Good for me (and the rabbits).

Been a while... Think I last contributed to this thread back in 2002!
Been off the bike a bit. Slap on the wrist for me! So now I'm back to trying to do my 12.5 mile commute one way each day. Took a new route last night, looking for an alternative to roads. Followed a roman road past a gypsy camp to the next village out of town, but don't think I'll be using it in winter. It's unpaved, officially a byway but mostly used by tractors I'd guess! It'll get a bit muddy. Not to mention the number of burnt out cars past the gypsy site. Shame, it'd be nicer than the roads! Saw lots of rabbits though.
Commute in this morning was slooooooooow... I'm badly out of practice.

Good commute in today. Not to hot. I get to work and hear that there is a smog alert in effect.
Ride home should be steamy

Had a nice ride in this morning. Upper 60's is a welcome change from the low 80s that is has been the past couple of weeks.

Ditto that. Beautiful weather for Houston today! 75 degrees, little clouds. Might have an interesting ride home, but should be just as good!

After 3 consecutive "all ride weeks" ( + yesterday), I overslept this morning and was forced to drive in. It was just as well as it'll give my left knee additional time to recuperate and, after staying up late last night, I was pretty tired. This also gives a friend of mine a chance to collect her "all ride dinner", our reward to one another for whomever rides every day in a given week. So long as she rides out the week, she'll win. I also have to have my rear hub checked/serviced. My locknuts keep loosening and it feels like I'm riding in quick sand. No matter how hard I pedal it feels like I'm pulling againts the brakes. I will probably ride my roadie while my wheel is in the shop.

I haven't been able to ride to work yesterday or today. My back is in excruciating pain. On Sunday it was so bad I could not walk from bedroom to bathroom. I crawled and my wife helped me sit up. I've been seeing Dr. about condition (herniated disk per MRI) - I get these episodes (not apparently triggered by any event) every 2-3mo or so, otherwise pain free.
But I am irritable now, not just from dealing with constant near unbearable pain (even with mild painkillers), but aso from lack of any exercise in past three days.

My commute was a little chilly! I leave at 4:30 in the a.m. I think this morning it was 50 degrees. By the time I get to work (12mi.) I am warmed up good. Arm warmers help, I think it is time for my full fingered gloves. Fortunatly we have had no rain lately for my morning ride. I'm not looking forward to the 50 degree with rain ride!
btw. I am a new commuter, so I have a lot to experience still. So far the hardest thing is getting my sorry ass out of bed!

Commute home from work was grrrrrrreat... there was a big traffic jam, wooohooo I was flying by the 4 wheeled vehicles!!! I mean to tell you, my legs were pumping hard, it felt sooo good! Then I get back into town, waiting for a light to change, I put my hand up on a metal box to balance myself, so I don't have to unclip the peds, ZAP.. got stung by a big ole BEE. Then it was stuck on my glove... arrrrrgh... but all-in-all it was great!
