First Fixed Commute Today! I got up early to futz with my chain and install a front brake on my new fixie commuter, "El Azulejo," a bright blue '88 Trek 660. And thank goodness I did install that brake, as I needed it at the intersections.

A perfect morning for riding a bike, calm and clear and cool, and I arrived at the office with a huge smile on my face. God, I love this bike.

nice ride in this am. Bike path empty but for an occasional jogger. I keep seeing the same smiling woman on her new folding bike lately going the opposite direction.

Very late ride home tonight. Gorgeous still black river with a thin coat of ice forming. A huge bird, I'm pretty sure it was the hawk I see hanging out in the same area during the day- this thing is massive- dropped off a branch and coasted by my head and floated on down the river flapping nary a wing just riding the still air of night. Bunches of rabbits (the prey of the hawk) did their suicidal dances across the bike path in the section I call Watership Downs. A very nice ride home.

A good commute in this morning. The snow went north and missed us. It was 15F/-9C and cloudy. It's partly cloudy now and in the 20's (F), should make for a nice lunch run and I just might take the long way home.

After weeks of high pressure sitting over us in Puget Sound, a storm system came through and freezing levels fell last night and coated Seattle roads in an inch or two of snow and ice. I made my way down Capitol Hill via 10th Ave passing car after car. All of the city buses couldn't make it down the hill so they dumped their unhappy riders off a little before 10th/Boston.

Sounds like the City of Boston doing some back bending for B.U. more than anything. That section of Comm.Ave (Kenmore to B.U. Bridge) is not part of my commute as turn left at the Bridge. Sounds like cyclist will get screwed because they're going to narrow the roads, but then widen the outer lane? With no dedicated bike lane, drivers are going to push into that space. Good Ole bike un-friendly Boston.

No leftovers to pack so I planned to run to Subway today. They closed the one in the gas station 1 mile away! So I rode to the next one and got a bonus 7 miles in at lunch! Can't beat that. Except that 7 miles in street clothes, even with taking it easy and just a vented rain jacket over a T-shirt still left me very sweaty. I think some of us just sweat easy.

20*F this morning, 31*F now, clear and nice out. Nice, but I find myself dreaming of spring and taking the Nokians off.

Today was a wet commute. The morning was dry. The weather people said it isnt going to rain until tommorw at about noon, well guess what its raining still right now, a half hour after I got back. I had no rain jacket, fenders. And to make it worse, the rain was cold and I had a short sleeve shirt on. I got out of most if the rain by riding off road under the bridge, but I still got soaked. :(

whew, my one way commute is just under 11 miles door to door and the elevation gain is probably no more than 100' but today the ride home compared to my rides up Mt. Greylock (highest point in Massachusetts) where the route to the top is an 8 1/2 mile ride that climbs a good 2000'. The wind was brutally in my face the whole way home and to get the bike to go much more than 11mph took tremendous effort at times. I saw two adult men blown over by the wind downtown and one little girl attempting to climb into a mini-van slammed to the ground. Trash barrels were blowing by and tree branches coming down on the bike path. There were white caps on the Charles River. Needless to say a tough ride home.

DITTO!! dropped 2 to 3 gears and bent down/dropped position and made it (3.2 miles home, west). fun going in this AM though w/ jet (wind) propulsion !! another full commute week (4/4-holiday), 100% 2006.

31F Ice and wind on the inbound trip . I score with the boss, because we both ice-biked in while the cagers didn't venture out until much later in the morning. :D

I have rode six days this week. Five days of commuting and one day of like of a training ride. Great ride to work and home tonight. I hope next week is as good as this week. Have a good night.

36F this morning with a 5-10MPH crosswind, good workout without trying too hard. The ride home was 50F with a 5MPH headwind. I felt really good on the way home and concentrated on my pedaling form, still trying not to mash. The commute is really the best part of my workday.

An uneventful ride home, as usual. Not that that's a bad thing... it's still a fun relaxing ride in the brisk night air. :)

Commuted on my carbon fiber road bike this morning, sans lock and lights. Great fun! :) I saw a group of roadies out for a Saturday ride headed in the same direction, but they were going at a very relaxed pace, so I didn't ride with them.

Back home now. A trip home in daylight... what a concept! :)

Easy ride both ways. Only good thing about working Saturday is the lack of morning traffic. I get to enjoy the ride both ways.

Cold this morning, 22 degrees when I left at 5:40 a.m. I wore: two shirts (one long, one short sleeve), my fleece vest, riding jacket, long pants, wool socks, skull cap and gloves and was just fine. I finally figured out that I can cinch up the wrists of the jacket and seel the sleeves from wind (big 'duhh'). I also found the perfect gear and spun in almost exclusively in that gear. I rode somewhat slower than usual at a fairly high cadence and found that helped keep me plenty warm.

1 degree Fahrenheit in Boston at 6:30am. ONE.

Had a nice ride in for a Monday morning. Rode into the sunrise with the temps in the low 20's. Warmed up pretty fast, only my toes were cold when I got to work. Supposed to be in the low 50s this afternoon so it should be a nice ride home.

First real commute today after being out with flu last week. :(

Weather was crisp. Wind was behind me. Traffic was light. Sunrise was beautiful. Life is good. :)

That tail wind will be a head wind this afternoon. Bring it on! :D

No commute today cuz there was no hot water for a shower this morning. The boiler in the bldg. sucks.

Bank clock a mile from my office said it was 24 degrees. Winds out of the east were in the 10-15 MPH range. Still dreaming about snow for my studded tires. So much for winter in Minnesota. But riding to work still rules.

0 degF and sunny for my morning ride, with about a half inch of fresh powder last night. Plenty warm with microfleece shirt/pants, windproof jacket/pants, thin touque under the helmet, and some very old thinsulate gloves.

Still bright and sunny, and up to almost 15 degF, so my lunchtime trip should be a nice one.

The City finally got off its sorry ass and cleared/graded some of the streets on the way in to work. No near-death experiences whatsoever, but that means I need extra caffeine to replace last week's adrenaline. My wife even rode in with me today to test out her new Sugoi jacket. She did well, although she was a little slow off the lights. It was -13C on the way in, and a mini-blizzard started up about halfway through the ride. The high for today is +9C, and the overnight low will be back to -13C. That's a 20-degree swing in less than 24 hours. I expect the streets to be pure ice by tomorrow morning. Wheeee! :D

Left the house at 18F. It was pretty frigid for the first mile or two, but I ended up overheating from layering. My main problem when it goes below 20F in the city is that pedestrians are bundled to the point of peripheral blindness. They think nothing of jaywalking on a major thoroughfare with scarfs wrapped around their heads without so much as a glance toward traffic.

Had a nice ride in this morning, 21F/-6C, partly cloudy. Day break is happening halfway through my commute in, that's nice. It's almost mid day and we are at 26F and clear skies, I think I'll do a longer lunch ride and could be a "take he long way" home after work today. Bring on spring!
