I awoke to a glorious morning of deep blue skies and mild temps. It took about ten minutes to get to the office.
|
Nice ride this morning, not too cold or windy.
|
Cool with a high overcast. This is the second day I've ridden my magic gear fixie and I'm liking it very much. With luck my clients may leave me alone to get my work done and I hope I can sneak out of the office with some daylight remaining. It would be nice to get in a few more miles this afternoon.

gettin' tired of people at work commenting on my clothes as i walk in the door from the commute.
"you look like you're ready for a trek" (meaning journey, not the bike) "whoa, you look like an alien" "wow, you look all suited up" "you look like a peruvian bike herder" -- a friend said this last night. i had a baja on... that's about all i can figure prompted her saying that. just gets old. and the thing is, i just wear tights under baggy shorts, a slim Marmot jacket (or baja), reflective sunglasses, and a helmet. and somehow this get-up conveys that i'm prepared for anything. |

Snow in New Mexico today. Hurray! After having the driest winter on record (+100 yrs), the 4-6 inches of snow is more than welcome, and I'm happy not to ride today. It won't last though. Going up to 50 degrees tomorrow.
|
I had only 1.5 hrs of sleep last night so I didn't ride this morning :( ... Do you guys think that was reasonable? Or am I just being a wimp?

Sunny day, perfect for riding. So I jumped in my car and drove to NJ for a meeting (40 miles). Was envious of all the commuters I saw on the WSH MUP. Also had to dea with 2 cagers cutting me off. The first came from two lanes over to make a left in front of me. He stopped directly in front of me and that's when I saw he was on his cellphone. I honked and he didn't look my way. Second cager decides he needs his Starbucks at the last minute so from the right lane and signaling a right turn, he cuts me off and gets into the left lane to turn into the strip mall instead. He also got a honk. Cagers are idiots to everyone, not just cyclists.

bee-yoo-tiful day today, 65 degrees, clear sky. I found a new route north of the old one and shaved five minutes off my time! woo-hoo! the new route is nice, too, mostly through old neighborhoods with no traffic. even bike lanes about half the way. this is my new route! I had a blast finding it.

I've been battling a nasty upper respiratory infection for the last week, and even ran a fever on Monday. Needless to say, the commutes to work haven't been that much fun. The decision to bike to work becomes easy when one has no car (no choice). I hope to pull out of this mess by the weekend :o

difficult!
was stuck riding a 47x14 ratio today. it definitely woke the legs up. |
Traffic coulda been worse. It coulda been better too. At least I finally got my Nashbar stuff after the post office held on to it for 12 days before notifying me.

Ride in was fast and cool. Ride home was interesting. Passing a driveway I had a knucklehead honk at me and yell because I didn't let him pull out on the street in front of me when I had the right of way. Followed right behind me for a block high beaming me. I swung around and pulled up on his drivers side and knocked on the window. Then he tried to pull away but couldn't with stop signs every block. Let him go after making it clear that I got his plate number. I pay much more taxes than this knucklehead in his beater, why does he think he owns the road?

Nice ride to work & home . Still cold out. I hope spring get here soon . Have a good nite .

cold out there today. rainy. wet. windy. i've reverted to wimp-mode, i see. hate working for a living. bike's still nice, though.
songs: good as gold, stupid as mud; the beautiful south. last of barrett's privateers; stan rogers. i may die of shame. |

I forgot my BELT! When you have not purchased new pants after loosing a few inches in the waist this can be quite annoying. Sitting around in my jogging pants and my outer poly shirt. |
Today was a mental health ride. I took nice and easy and just rode an easy pace. I find the faster I try to go, the more frustrating things become. Aside from breaking two spokes as I started my climb over one of the two bridges I must cross, all was fine. I think wheel re-build is in order...Alex Wheels . I planned another long ride home (at my own peril), but I'll have to ride straight home instead and do the trainer thing.

Almost ran into a car that an old man was driving last night on my way home. I was riding through traffic on the right side and somebody was letting this guy turn out into traffic as I was coming up. He obviously didn't see me as he pulled right out in front of me causing me to slam on my brakes. Luckily I was able to stop in time and yell but I don't even think the guy heard or cared that I was there. Had a nice cool ride in this morning, low 30s. Winter is hanging on for life around here and I can't really complain since it really hasn't been a cold winter at all. The weatherman said it wasn't going to be a breezy today, but I will be the judge of that on my ride home ;)

We were in the 80's and 90's a couple of weeks ago. This morning was freezing with snow. I wish the weather would make up it's "mind." When I rode, the only noticeable snow was blowing off cars as they went by. Roads were ice free and damp. The few puddles were easy to avoid. I was more comfortable than I expected. Sometimes I bundle up and arrive sweaty. Today, temperature, wind, and clothing combined for a pleasant ride. I still didn't dawdle much at the bike rack. Come on sunshine! :D

The only comments I've ever gotten have been on my super-duper bright HHCMF shirt. http://www.nicomachus.net/images/bikes/llirgrab.jpg Nice, cool ride in this morning. I followed two other commuters most of the way downtown before we all went different directions. As I passed the bus stop, I saw two buses pulling in with bikes on the front-mounted bike racks. There's something nice about seeing other cyclists out and about in the morning. And no one made fun of my clothes. |
Ugh. Stop and go traffic for me. The ride clock said 1 min. faster than usual, but my watch said 3 mins. slower cuz of all the red lights and people making rights in front of me at almost every intersection. And I almost got clipped by a limo as I was avoiding a pot hole. Limo drivers are worse than cabbies cuz their cars are nicer and they feel more superior. Idiots. But it's better than yesterday when I drove.

I got right hooked this morning by a full size van. I was moving slow and managed to get a hand on the van and push off. Scared the @#%$ out of me, driver slowed down then sped up and took off. At least I didn't go down. Glad I wasn't pulling the trailer, no way I would have stayed up with that on.

Nice ride in this morning, keep getting up late though...but this morning i just said "screw it" i'll be late, heck, half the people I work with who DRIVE to work are late 3 out of 5 days :-)
So I relaxed, cruised, and made pretty good time, only ended up being about 10 minutes late (I was quick in the shower at work) so it's all good. Weather is getting nicer, seeing more bikes out now...it is nice to see others out riding, the flip side is the paths (and soon my locker room...wich has been like my private bathroom for months) will be more crowded. Oh well. |
The tiny bit of mud that I rode through on the way home last night froze into a diamond-hard lump under my fork crown, scraping against my tire all the way into work. I didn't have time to get a hammer and chisel, so I'm hoping it melts off by the time I'm ready to go home. Other than that, the ride in was fine. I had to do some aggro lane-changing to get into my parkade, but that was it.
I tried eating breakfast at home today. Vector cereal and OJ. My stomach was gurgling before I left the house. Normally I eat a bacon/egg/cheese sandwich from Wendy's with a can of Coke once I get to work. It fills me up but won't slow me down. :D Maybe if I bring the cereal and juice to work, it will sit better. I had to pick up my wife after work yesterday, since she had a flat. LOL As luck would have it, I had a spare front wheel with inflated tire for her to use. I'll have to write out tube-changing instructions on a laminated card and stick it in her pack with a tube, levers and CO2 thingy. |
It was nice this morning, blue clouds with wiffs of yesterdays contrails, and it was verging on warm, maybe 65f. It took about ten minutes to get to the office.
|
I was running late since my daughter was especially clingy this morning. But how can you tear yourself away from a two-year old with big brown eyes who keeps saying, "Daddy no go!"
Not much else to say. I brought my shorts and jersey in case I get to take a long route home. |
