The last couple of days have been pretty nice. Thursday it was above 0C going in and riding home. Not much ice left, which was good, as I rode the skinnies in. Today, there was NO traffic to deal with, and the ice is completely absent. Easy cruising through Mt. Royal and down through the Beltline.

First snow showers in Montréal yesterday! It melted right away though. And first sub-freezing commute this year! Well, barely... it was -0.3°C when I left work last night. Same temperature when I left home this morning. Sunny but very windy. My toes are quite cold by the end of my commute... damn ventilated bike shoes. Soon I'll have to include putting on the shoe covers in the routine.

I tried on shoe covers at MEC last week. Couldn't bring myself to buy them though cuz they're too geeky, even for me. Maybe after I ride around w/ frozen wet feet a few times, I'll break down and buy some. Also cumbersome to put on.

Just some toe warmers and wool socks will do you just fine down below freezing.

I'm thinking more for rain than for freezing weather. But when it rains, I can always telecommute.

38 F / 3 C this morning, and there was frost on some of the cars. This was also my first trip of the season during which I kept my gloves on all the way to work. Yesterday, I had to pick up my daughter from school, so the Trail-a-Bike had to be attached. Today, with the Trail-a-Bike left at home, I felt like I was flying.

same thing for rain, though you want to make sure the toe warmers are water proof/resistant too, rather than just wind resistant. The wool socks will keep your feet warm, even when wet. I wear thin smartwools all summer, thicker smartwool crews this time of year. If you have clipless shoes, some Saran Wrap under the liner really helps to keep the wet and cold from coming up from the cleats.

Finally, BF is back.

Nice ride today. First morning of the season in the low 30s (1C). Saw frost on several cars parked on some of the side streets I take, but I was nice and toasty.

No commute for me since it's a state holiday.

I'm not strictly commuting anymore (*sniff*) but my refound full-time student status does have me going places. I rode to see family in Brooklyn yesterday, and went by my university on the way back. Today I "commuted" to a bike shop near Central Park and rode most of lap "on my way back" (heh, out of the way first, but eventually really on the way back).

Spring has well and truly arrived here in Perth. Every commute is wonderful.

I'm working on a Saturday and it was still a pleasure to get on the bike and head to the studio.

Gotta kvetch. Wednesday evening was cold (40s F) hard rain here, and although I had my new bright yellow jacket with clear plastic rain covering, I didn't have anything for my legs. It wasn't raining in the morning, so I at least had the foresight to pack the rain cover, but I underestimated the rain, and my pants and sneakers got thoroughly soaked on the ride home. (I used to have a full yellow rubber suit until recently, when a strap broke and I decided to retire it.) To top it all off, I hit a large pothole which popped my back tire (even though I have a nice new headlight, I missed seeing the pothole due to the large puddles and glare from the road in the darkness), so I had to walk it the last 1/2 mile home in the pouring rain. (I had a spare tube and tools with me, but no way was I going to do that in that weather. I suppose if I had been further away I would have found somewhere to take it inside.)

Just another adventure.

This morning when I left the house at 5:15 I was treated to a huge orange moon just over the horizon - moonset! It made a nice ride even nicer. Low 40's this morning, just a slight headwind from the north. The new L&M Vega light really makes a difference too, I replaced my old EL300 with it last week, keeping the EL500 mounted alongside it on the swing grip more oriented towards the ground right in front of me. This might be my only ride this week, the weather forecast has snow for the remainder of the week. First snow is not a good time to be on a bike around here, the cagers get a little crazy.

Today was the definition of unseasonably warm. Mid-60's when I left the house and probably a bit of rain this afternoon. I'm trying to enjoy it before the temp drops again on Wednesday.

OoooH! The first frosty ride of the season today. Brr! The compensation was lovely bright sunshine.

There's something different everyday. By the time I cut through the old Eli Lilly parking lot (now empty), I smelled something familiar -- coffee. But, this was not the smell of coffee being brewed. This was the smell of coffee being roasted.

2+ miles to the southwest is Counter Culture Coffee's headquarters, where they roast massive amounts of my favorite bean... mmm, the smell of roasting coffee sure beats exhaust fumes.

My son came down with a cold yesterday. I seem to have a touch of it today. Colds are a bit confusing nowdays since my immune system seems to fight them off before the full effects or beats them very fast. Not that I'm complaining.

Anyhow, my lungs are a bit under the weather. That made this morning's commute a bit slower since I had to slow down to let my lungs catch back up.
All in all it was about an average commute in the high 20s\low 30s. I did put another layer on my feet and briefly used ski gloves. For some reason my hands would not warm up. Thus, the ski gloves.

The odd thing. This is the coldest it has been for a while in denver and I saw 3 other cyclists and 4 joggers. In the warm weather I would only see maybe 1 jogger every morning. Odd.

Jeez, 59F this morning w/ a high of 65F today. Kept passing then getting passed by either a kid dressed up and riding a bmx bike (kid size frame) or a small man commuting on the same bike. Couldn't tell, but he looked like a small man. We kept passing each other cuz of traffic.

Oi! -5C this morning with gusting winds out of the north at 60 km/h. Lovely! It's supposed to be a bit colder tomorrow, then warming up for the rest of the week. No snow, but it's going to show up eventually. I'm going to have to put a smaller chainring on my mtn bike. I'm running a 42/16, but when it gets really gross out I'll take it down to 38/16 or maybe 36/16...

Wonderful ride in. The weather guessers said rain today but I guess they were talking about another part of the country cause it was ~57F (14C) and lots of sunshine.

50F this morning. Sunny. Pretty nice out, actually. Bit of a quartering headwind but I was powering through it okay.

Looks like rain later this week. High near 60 on Wednesday? Very strange. I don't know whether this means we're going to have a mild winter, or we're being set up for weeks of subzero commutes.

Tough ride this morning. Haven't ridden in a week and had a strong headwind. Its mornings like these which test resolve.

Had a nice ride in this morning. Very warm (60's) and cloudy the whole way in. Had a guy in a pickup truck buzz by me pretty close. When I was passing him at a red light I slowed down and told him to try and not pass me so closely. He said OK and I was on my way. He passed me again after the light and gave me a couple more feet, so it was a start. Should be a great ride home this afternoon, it's already sunny and 76 out there

It's my birthday too

First morning in the 40s (F) this year. I was a bit chilly for the first half of the ride in so it may be time to switch from knee and armwarmers to tights and longsleeve jerseys.

Riding along the American River I saw a young mule deer, a line of Canada geese, and a bunch of guys wading in the middle of the river fishing for salmon.
