Very hot ride home last night. I was hoping to hammer it and started out fast, but after a few miles I could already feel the heat getting to me, so slowed down and took it easy for the remaining 9-10 miles (it was "only" 89F, but was quite humid too). The ride in this AM was pleasant, though still very humid and dripping with sweat. Sadly we're out of towels in the mens room, so used an old Tshirt to dry off with after showering...beats no shower at all :-). Looking forward to lower dew points tomorrow.

Morning commute was great! I was up past midnight so I figured I'd be half-dead, but for some reason I moved along at a good clip even with a little headwind. I caught the 'bent rider who I see from time to time. Then we both caught a guy on an MTB. Saw a couple of other riders headed the other way. Seems like there are a lot more cyclists this year. Gas prices? Who knows...
I spooked a cute female runner at a red light. Pulled up next to her and she was wearing headphones. She jumped when she noticed me in her peripheral vision. I gave her a friendly "I'm not a predator" smile and a nod. :) |
Left about an hr. earlier than usual and managed to zip to work quicker than usual. The cars were moving quicker too, but at least they weren't driving insanely yet.
|
Last night was quick, painless, and fun. There were blue skies when I left the office, and by the time I was a mile away, it had gotten pretty dark greenish and felt like another monster t-storm was on its way. It held off, but the climate change was welcome.
This morning I slept in a little bit and the ride in was fine, though many more cars to deal with, being 8:30 when I hit Tysons, rather than the usual 7:30ish. |
Fifth flat of the year yesterday, small wall board screw. This morning tire was low. I wonder if CO2 is more prone to leak out then air? Great ride in today, with a slight tailwind! Traffic lighter then usual. First day this week without tstorms in the forecast.

Good commute in, did the last leg with a neighbor I caught up with at an intersection.
She's teaching at one of the summer camps held at Duke. Chatting was nice, but she did slow me down ;) . Weather is freakin' near-perfect, and should remain that way for the weekend. Can't wait for my lunch ride... :D |
Good commute. I was dead tired from a really busy week, but there's a long weekend ahead!!! Finally a bit of a break to go ride my bike without work.
|
All good! Timely and trouble free... and almost friday! http://www.one2ride.org/Animation/dancingbanana.gif
my a/c is on the fritz so gotta pick up the pace on the way home to meet the a/c guy for a fix. He's a cyclist so, I don't think he'll be troubled if I'm sweaty and breathless :) |

had a good ride in. had my first "car encounter" in front of a private school (entrance to lovett). course, it was on a downhill slope so i was going fast, and when she started to turn, she saw me at the last minute and she swerved to a stop. i had my hands on the brakes and was skidding right for her, so i am glad she had good brakes! : ( of course, i was scared in retrospect so i mouthed "wtf" and gazed at her car. did not use my vocal chords but just stared at what could have been a bad morning ride. otherwise, wind was perfect, sun was perfect, every thing - perfect. i noticed something new about my body today. when going up hills, i did not struggle as much, in fact, i did not care how much my legs were burning. it felt like there was a hunger in my chest, in my heart to be specific, and each time i pushed myself harder it was like i was feeding that feeling. it felt good. glad to hear your commute went well today GT! how about you Ron? |
I saw a bunny.
He hopped. Ya just don't see that stuff when you drive the car. |
Had a slow ride in this morning. Warm and humid still so I was very sweaty arriving at work. Took the long way home last night to get some extra miles in since I have been slacking this month, less than 150 so far and my goal is 200 a month (which I am averaging so all is not lost). I will be riding home to pick up my soccer gear then riding to my game a few miles away.

And a tip o' the Bell Ghisallo to the driver in the Ford F-150 who yielded to me when I had to take the lane to avoid a police car in the bike lane. You are a fine and courteous driver, my good man, and I appreciate it. |
I had a bit of a headwind all the way in, but that didn't stop me from laying waste to some guy on a Colnago. <claim> He finally caught up to me at the last light before the parkade and proceeded to filter to the front of a long line of cars, then when the light turned green, he rode at what appeared to be walking speed. Two SUV pulled out and around him, then he finally clued in and picked up some speed.

My ride home last night was good nice and cool. However I ride through a construction site, and they had moved the trail a bit making it go through some deep gravel. It was tough to ride through and after a stumble in it I walked the bike the rest of the way. It was overcast and cool so the ride was pleasant. I saw one other bicyclist. He was riding against the flow of traffic on the sidewalk :-O. The last hill was real tough though. I am recovering from a flu and I don't think I'm back to full strength.
This morning's ride in was beautiful. Very nice weather high 60's and some high clouds. I left about a half hour earlier than normal and there was much less traffic, both automobile and bicycle. |
I almost nailed/was nailed by some idiot in a land-yacht pulling a sudden u-turn in the middle of the road. Either he just didn't see me, or didn't even bother to look behind. Scary stuff.
Other than that, it was a great morning for a ride! Even though I left a bit late, I still saw more bikers than usual, the weather was perfect, and there were no other problems with cars. Dodging traffic on the way home should be fun too. |

Great ride in today. Waved and said good morning to a new commuter I've seen nearly every morning or afternoon for the past two weeks. He's riding the opposite direction I am.
|
Easy ride, I blew a redlight this morning...shame on me :(
|
commute was good and kinda chilly, my legs were a bit tired for some reason. It was great!
|
Had a very nice ride home yesterday. The humidity had dropped a bit and I had a light tailwind too. Saw a Great Blue Heron doing a little fishing in Lake Crabtree, something I never would have seen from my car.
This morning's ride in was equally nice with temp of 70F and rH down around 40-50%, instead of the 90+ it's been the previous few mornings. Watched the sun come up as a big orange ball. A guy in a black pick up yelled at me as I was sitting at a stoplight. He said "have a nice ride!"-That was really cool and totally unexpected, especially coming from a pickup truck. Gave my spirits a nice boost on top of the already pleasant conditions. |
Thought I was going to get poured upon yesterday afternoon but I guess I was chasing the storm instead of riding into it. Trail/roads were wet. Later another storm dropped dime-sized hail at our house. No damage though.
This morning I had a nice relaxed commute. Followed a woman on an MTB with panniers. Didn't see any other cyclists. :( Temperatures are cooler and the humidity isn't bad. Nice. |
Guess I will bury yesterday's commute in this thread :p
I usually say let it go and ride on. Followed with "I don't always take my own advice". Anyhow, I was riding to the bus yesterday while tired and very warm. Bad combo for my temper. Incidentally, I really could care less about bike lanes. However, If they are there I will use them. Incident:> I came upon a motorist in a SUV parked in the middle of the bike lane doing god knows what in his vehicle. This irritated me beyond all belief and I smacked the side of his lovely gas guzzler with the palm of my hand. Mainly for two reasons. 1) It annoyed me 2) To push off his vehicle in order to miss his mirror. I was not looking that far ahead. For some reason I did not expect a parked SUV in a bike lane. Do people park in the middle of car lanes? Expecting him to catch up to me and engage me in an argument I positioned myself between two cars at the next light. Actually it was more like I pulled up behind one car and another pulled up behind me. Said fool then caught up to me. Him> "You really shouldn't hit people's cars" <-yelling Me> You really shouldn't park in a bike lane! Massive cursing ensues. His big old double chins quivering in anger as I dished right back what he gave to me. The final communication was me riding off into the busy intersection yelling very loudly "Waaahhhh you little [b word] and laughing at him. I was quite amused that I finally managed to control my temper. Usually it boils over and I make absolutely no sense. This time I kept it at a simmer and had an amusing time screwing with the moron in the suv. ...and yes.... one should avoid these situations. blah blah blah I didn't represent cyclists very well. blah blah blah he could have had a gun...blah blah blah One needs to blow off steam from time to time and I feel no remorse over my actions. My wife did remark that someday I was going to be coming home with a black eye. Somehow I doubt I would have done this if the driver wasn't a middle aged 300lb middle management type. :p |
Crash: Caught the tail end of a multi-car fender bender at the infamous B.U. Bridge. It was the classic "someone stopped short" chain reaction type of crash where the last person in line gets sued for first contact.
The last person in line was a young woman who emerged from her car with a cell phone glued to her head. Obviously she was in the middle of a conversation that would decide the fate of the Universe. I really do hope her insurance goes through the roof. |

On the bright side, I had a great ride into work today. And someone brought donuts in for the holiday weekend! Guilt-free donut eating rules. |
Commute today was perfect.

Today's commute was just like yesterday's -- unremarkable. :)
|
What a nice day to ride, light traffic, and perfect weather!
|
Added 20 psi to my tires and rolled in a lot smoother than yesterday. The streets were quieter than usual. Tomorrow is a holiday, and people are either taking today or Monday off. This makes for a fairly easy commute.
|
Lovely morning here. Friday and pay day HOORAY! :D
I just got a spiffy clicky Topeak bike rack and retired the messenger bag. Not being used to the extra weight on the back, I was a bit wobbly at first  I noticed a little extra ‘push’ too. So far, I love it, actually felt a lil’ naked but I like the bod being bare of the messenger bag :) |
